Canik TP9 SFX: The Budget Custom Glock

Canik TP9SFX is like a cheap alternative to the Agency Arms Glock you can't justify.

Canik TP9SFX 9mm

  • Price: $549.99
  • Barrel length: 5.2
  • Total: 8.27
  • Weight: 1.83lb
  • Capacity: 20+1

We all secretly kind of want a custom Glock in our collection, but they’re crazy money and it’s kind of hard to justify $2000 on an Agency Arms polymer special.

But maybe you don’t have to. The Canik TP9 SFX looks like a factory tuner firearm. It’s clever, like they’ve done all the mods for you and then Cerakoted just a few of the aftermarket parts.

The Canik Is A Glock 34 Rival

With these dimensions it’s actually a rival for the Glock 34, which pretty much fits the same profile. If these were the only two guns for sale, I’d take this one in a heartbeat. It’s sexier than the G34, it’s cheaper, and the slide has so many more options for manipulation. It just looks like a complete weapon, whereas the Glock is a good start.

It works. This looks like a classy and understated custom Glock, but it isn’t…

It’s a competition 9mm with a 20+1 round capacity and Canik might have accidentally stumbled on a wicked bad EDC here.

5.2″ Barrel Is Seriously Accurate

The barrel is 5.2 inches, but the slide is drilled out, there’s a contrasting ejector port and the stippling looks perfect. It’s a work of art, considering it’s a 9mm polymer pistol and at this price it’s an absolute steal.

The gun is 8.2 inches and weighs slightly more than 1.8lb, but then it comes with a big mag and it does look the absolute tits.

You get four different red dot mounting plates, or you can stick with the night sights, and this is a weapon that could seriously take over as your favorite range gun, backyard can shooter and your EDC.

It’s going to be accurate and reliable, as Canik has forged quite the reputation in recent years, and you get a Picatinny rail if you want to add a laser or lamp.

Glock Prices For A Custom Weapon

It’s a competition pistol at Glock 19 prices. Jump on this one quickly and get an awesome striker-fired handgun with contrasting grey Cerakote covered details.

The ZEV and Agency Arms Glocks cannot be that much better than a Canik with a match-grade 5.2-inch barrel and a trigger that some people reckon is the finest stock trigger on the market right now.

We think the Canik TP9SFX is a bargain and it even snuck on to our list of the best full size 9mm pistols for sale in 2023. It’s that good, and you won’t regret buying one.

Issues with the Canik

Nothing in life is perfect and there are always pros and cons with every gun. Here are some potential downsides of the Canik TP9.

  • Trigger Reset: It is good, but not as positive as the class leaders. That can affect the speed and accuracy of follow-up shots.
  • Slide Lock: Some users have reported that the slide lock is difficult to operate, especially when the pistol is new.
  • Magazine Release: Not everybody likes the magazine release and some say it’s too small.
  • Sights: While the Warren Tactical sights are generally well-regarded, the target is not as easy to pick up in low-light conditions.
  • Recoil: Some gun owners say the recoil on the TP9 SFX is more pronounced than they would like, which can affect their accuracy.
Hugely Subjective Complaints…

It’s worth noting that many of these reported issues are subjective and may vary depending on individual preferences and shooting styles. Overall, the Canik TP9 SFX is generally regarded as a reliable and high-quality pistol with a good reputation for accuracy and performance.

  1. Canik TP9 SFX: The Budget Custom Glock? It’s nothing like a Glock 34. Why not compare it to it’s more direct rivals? How about the Canik TP9 SFX: The Budget Smith & Wesson Performance Center® M&P®9L Pro Series® C.O.R.E.™ (which carried an MSRP of $769) or Canik TP9 SFX: The Budget Walther PPQ Q5 (which carried an MSRP of $849) are the more appropriate direct comparisons to make.

    1. It’s a totally fair point and funnily enough I am writing that very post now, cheaper custom guns. It was one of the first posts I wrote on the site and you think you know what to write until you sit down and start. But I think it’s got better!
