The Best EDC Pocket Knife For Sale in 2020
1. Off-Grid Knives Legal Carry Black Mamba
- Price: $197.99
- Action: Flipper
- Length: 4 inch (Closed)
- Blade: 2.78 inch
- Weight: 4.58 Oz
We love this knife. If you’re looking solely for self defense and an EDC knife to carry with you at all times, then the Off-Grid Knives Legal Carry Black Mamba is a winner.
It’s lightweight at 4 oz, you get a deep pocket clip to put it just about anywhere and that’s just the start of the good news.
The blade is Austrian Bohler M390 ultra premium steel. Powder metallurgy is involved, which sounds quite fancy.
The reverse Tanto knife gets a blackwash Diamond Like Carbon finish that gives the knife incredible corrosion resistance, hardness and it will keep that keen edge. DLC is a high end touch even on handguns.
Flipper Lever is Smooth as Silk
The flipper lever on the back engages a silky smooth opening action that is almost as fast as anything assisted, well almost. It’s butter smooth, too, thanks to the ball bearings it rolls on. It’s pretty much legal everywhere, too, thanks to the short blade and technically manual action.
The handle is Grade 5 Titanium by the way, and you get a titanium spacer in an open back design that looks absolutely stunning. The blackwash DLC finish extends to the frame and it’s just a brilliantly cohesive design.
Inevitably this is a perfectly balanced EDC knife when open and although it’s very much a personal defense knife, this was our biggest priority.
If you want your tactical knife to be great for self defense and conceal carry capability in the city, then this is the one we would go for.
1. Wilson Combat WTK Star-Light Tactical Folder
- Price: $218.95
- Action: Folding
- Length: 4.5 inch (Closed)
- Blade Length: 3.75 inch
- Weight: 4.0 Oz
Wilson Combat handguns and rifles don’t need much of an introduction around here. The boutique aftermarket tuner takes great handguns and makes them much better.
Now you can finally have a Wilson Combat you can afford. It’s just a knife, rather than a gun.
The Wilson Combat Star-light Tactical Folder is a simple folding knife with dual thumb studs for easy one-handed opening. There is an automatic knife for sale, too. If you can have that then the old-school flick knife with the designer image could be the one to go for.
The Wilson Combat knife for sale is actually produced in conjunction with Fox Cutlery in Italy. Between them, they have created an N690C stainless steel blade, which is used for surgical instruments and cutting tools, with superior edge retention an corrosion resistance.
Iconic Wilson Combat Starburst Grip
The starburst grip is a neat touch that brings the knife into line with the design language of those expensive handguns. If you own a Wilson Combat pistol, then the knife that completes your personal defense EDC almost has to be this one.
And if you really want a Wilson Combat, but can’t quite justify the big numbers to buy one of their handguns, then you could put the knife next to your much cheaper EDC handgun.
This compact, lightweight tactical folding knife isn’t the fastest here, but it might be the prettiest and it’s Wilson Combat. So you’ll love it.
3. Abraham & Moses AM-2 Drop Point
- Price: $119.99
- Action: Fixed Blade
- Length: 8.5 inch
- Blade Length: 3.875 inch
- Weight: 7.5 Oz
Most other knives here are aimed more at the concealment side of the concealed carry knife spectrum. The Abraham & Moses is more of a tactical knife, but the fixed blade does come with some serious advantages.
Other knives here have come up with clever, intricate and fast mechanism to open the blade. But the fastest, simplest and strongest solution is a fixed blade that you just find a way to conceal. The Abraham & Moses is a knife that has proved massively popular with Law Enforcement and outdoor workers who can open carry the knife on a belt.
Modern nano coating covers the blade surface to provide corrosion resistance and that edge will stay sharp longer than you could imagine possible. It’s a great knife, one of the best and it just won’t let you down.
4. Zero Tolerance KVT Folder
- Price: $220.00
- Action: Flipper
- Length: 4.5 inch Closed
- Blade Length: 3.6 inch
- Weight: 5.3 Oz
The stainless steel blade gets a coat of Blackwash that goes across the handle too and you have to admit this Zero Tolerance flipper knife is a thing of beauty. It’s a Diamond-like Carbon Finish (DLC) that gives this knife years of corrosion protection ad much stronger edge retention.
An open back design comes with stainless steel liners, a pocket clip on the rear and a weighty frame that feels just right in the hand. The ergonomics on this EDC folding knife are second to none and you can open it fast and smooth thanks to the ball-bearing assisted flipper mechanism.
This easily concealed tactical knife gets a frame lock and a sturdy feel that makes you think you’ll be friends for years. You really could be.
- Price: $189.95
- Length: 8.6 inch
- Blade Length: 4 inch
- Weight: 7.4 Oz
In some ways this is as simple as knife technology gets. It’s a fixed blade drop point that is right on the limit of size when it comes to your EDC. But when you really need it most, and for self defense, this is a great knife to have in your hand.
The VG-10 stainless steel blade is solid, big and inevitably sharp enough to shave a gnat’s ass. The handle is lightweight linen color Micarta and the two separate grips are screwed directly on to that solid stainless steel spine.
SOG worked with acclaimed tactical knife designer Kiku Matsuda to create this fixed blade EDC knife for sale. The blade profile and handle grinds are Matsuda trademarks. Micarta offers near perfect grip in wet conditions and this full tang handle is a work of art in its own right. The whole knife is just cool and the Kydex sheath means it’s a legit EDC knife.
6. Gerber US-Assist 420HC
- Price: $80.99
- Action: Assisted folding knife
- Length: 4.2 inch
- Blade Length: 3 inch
- Weight: 3.9 Oz
This is a classic drop point knife, but it is spring assisted, so check your local knife laws before you purchase.
As a self-defense tool, this thing is stunning and possibly second only to the Microtech Combat Troodon in terms of deployment speed. Nudge either one of he dual-ramped thumbstuds on the blade and then get ready on the glass-filled nylon handle. A 420HC drop point blade pops into action with the help of the proprietary BOSS Tech ball bearing system .
Perfect Blade Length for an EDC Tactical Knife
It’s just the right length for a tactical knife in the urban jungle, as in a concealed carry knife, and it will be ready to go long before it’s in position, so it’s an ideal EDC carry knife. A plunge lock keeps it in place when you need it too. As a back up to your carry pistol, this is an absolute hero of a personal defense knife.
Gerber knives for sale are always top quality, reasonably priced for what they are and some of the world’s greatest explorers rely on their hardware in the wild. You can’t really go wrong with a Gerber knife and this assisted folding knife is a great buy.
7. Benchmade Gold Class Bugout Knife
- Price: $750.99
- Action: Folding.
- Length: 4.15 inch (Closed)
- Blade Length: 3.22 inch
- Weight: 3.46 Oz
This knife is functional art. It isn’t the most effective self-defence knife here, not by a long shot, but it is pretty.
That is Damascus Steel that was created by hammering out Wootz steel from India and Sri Lanka. We still can’t fully replicate that metal to this day and some investigations have found all kinds of madness in that metal, including tungsten, vanadium, naturally formed carbon nanotubes and nanowires that helped create the Valyrian steel of the day.
Damascus Steel is named after the capital of Syria and it was famous for its keen edge and shatter resistant qualities.
Damascus Steel is Sharp, Flexible and Strong
These were the blades that lopped off limbs with a single swipe in the hands of Arabian noblemen from the 3rd to the 17th Century. It’s super plastic, so it can soak up a shock, and super sharp.
Now we have steels that go beyond the strength and cutting edge of Damascus Steel, but in its day this was the baddest weapon on the block.
In a folding pocket knife, with a modern interpretation of Damascus Steel, well it’s more about the aesthetics than the ability to slice and dice a gladiator. But admit it, you want the Benchmade Gold Class even if it isn’t the best EDC knife for personal defense.
All Purpose Knife That’s Oh So Elegant
You get an all-purpose knife that does most things pretty well and none of them spectacularly. It is a knife you could quite happily pass down to your kids, though, and at this price you might have to.
Damascus Steel always comes with that characteristic banding pattern that gives the metal an organic and simultaneously damned high-tech look. Here it’s a Loki pattern, which is somewhere between running water and the bands of a tree.
The handle of the Benchmade Gold Class is marbled carbon-fiber for reduced weight and then you get the Mother of Pearl inlay that just looks sexy. Diamond Like Carbon finished steel liners protect the blade and an AXIS locking mechanism keeps it in place when you’re focused on the task at hand.
The Benchmade Gold Class is a great knife, but more importantly it’s a beautiful knife.
8. Microtech Combat Troodon
- Price: $494
- Action: OTF Automatic
- Length: 5.3 inch closed.
- Blade Length: 3.8 inch
- Weight: 5.8 Oz
What knife did Jon Wick use in the movie is a question I have answered elsewhere in a post that covers the guns of John Wick Chapter 2, but it’s a popular Google term and people want this knife, so here it is.
Check your local knife laws carefully before following in the stab marks of John Wick, though, because this is an OTF automatic knife and that can be an issue. Play safe with the law, it’s just not worth getting this wrong and automatic knives are increasingly frowned upon. It’s hard to beat an automatic OTF knife for personal defense, though, is the thing.
If you can carry one of these in your area, then it kicks ass and it’s worth every cent.
That blade flies out into place faster than you could dream of thanks to the thumb slide opening mechanism and this is a pure combat knife that is perfectly suited to self defense and knife fights with rival hitmen on trains. Because that probably happens in your world too….
Heavy Knife, But The Weight is a Weapon in Itself
It’s a heavier knife, but that weight is reassuring in the hand when you need it most and it’s just a couple of ounces extra to carry round when you don’t need it.
If this tactical knife sits alongside a 1lb concealed carry handgun then you’ve given yourself the best possible chance of getting through the day alive without feeling inconvenienced along the way.
Seriously, if a self defense kit is good enough for John Wick, it should be enough for you and me. Check out the guns of John Wick 3 here when you’re done, and then the guns of John Wick 2.
The handle and lanyard loop contain a steel glass breaker, which is a handy addition and turn the Microtech into a useful tool in the urban jungle at least. It won’t stand up as well if you’re taking it hiking, but in terms of self defense you will not do better than the Microtech Troodon Combat.
9. SOG Tomcat 3.0 Tactical Folding Knife
- Price: $195.90
- Action: Folding
- Length: 4.9 inch (Closed)
- Blade Length: 3.75 inch
- Weight: 6.5 Oz
This elegant folding pocket knife for sale comes with a simple one-handed opening mechanism and an arc lock.
The SOG Tomcat 3.0 is an evolution of the knife that took Blade Magazine’s Knife of the Year Award all the way back in 1998, so it’s based on tried and trusted tech.
Japanese VG-10 stainless steel comes with a satin polished straight edge here. It’s an all-purpose knife aimed at hunters, rescue workers, fishermen and outdoors types. That non-slip top edge gives you all the purchase you need, even with gloves on. And this razor sharp knife allows for ultimate control too.
The Kratom handle gives the wet-weather grip of rubber with the durability of something much tougher. Combined with the stainless steel, it looks the absolute business too and you could be mistaken for thinking it’s carbon-fiber from a distance.
A Knife For Life? But of Course
SOG knives come with a lifetime guarantee. This really should be a knife that stays with you forever and turns into an essential part of your EDC kit. Is it worth the money? If you take care of your stuff and you want a knife you can always rely on, yes.
The knife doesn’t quite fold out as fast as the flipper style. That’s a fact of life, but some people prefer the solidity of this system. They also like the security of the proprietary arc lock system.
It looks and feels solid at every step. This is no lightweight open back design. The back is enclosed, all the edges are smoothed off and that handle feels great in the hand. You can fit a belt clip too. Or go for the pouch that comes with the knife if you’re in the great outdoors.
As an EDC self-defense knife, it’s right up there, size wise. Again that additional weight in the your hand could be a comfort, more than an inconvenience.
10. Benchmade Altitude Super Premium Steel Hunting Knife
- Price: $199.75
- Length: 7.38 inch
- Blade Length: 3.08 inch
- Weight: 1.67 Oz
Could this weight saving hunting knife that’s designed to go up mountains by your side and take up as little space as possible while doing it be an alternative left-field tactical knife?
It is slimline and the Kydex sheath that comes with it means this lightweight knife could easily stow next to your concealed carry handgun.
Does that handle offer a firm enough grip when you really need to rely on your knife? That’s the million dollar question and it might just be yes. But it’s certainly an unconventional approach and design.
The handle is covered in carbon-fiber microscales that afford a level of grip you just don’t see in most skeletonized knives. The coarse G10 thumb grip, and non-slip edge on the handle, give you more grip than you should ever need.
I’m not 100% convinced, but it’s certainly an interesting knife an if you collect them then this is an EDC you might just love.
