Just to be clear, John Wick did not use a Canik. John Wick Canik is a popular search term, and there is a family connection, but John never used this gun in the movies.

I know, I know. You saw the bronze slide. You saw the aggressive stippling. You saw the “TTI” roll mark that usually costs as much as a used Honda Civic. But the Canik TTI Combat is not the $7,000 Pit Viper from Chapter 4.

It’s more interesting than that.

It’s Taran Butler, the guy who taught Keanu Reeves to double-tap, teaming up with Canik to ask a dangerous question: Can we build a championship-winning race gun for under a grand?

We got our hands on one, ran 1,000 rounds of mixed ammo through it, and asked the hard questions. Is this just a TP9 with a facelift, or is it the best value performance pistol on the market?

The “John Wick” Connection: Fact vs. Fiction

If you are buying this gun because you want to LARP as Baba Yaga, you need to know the lore.

In the movies, John Wick uses ultra-custom 2011s (Staccato/STI) and Glocks modified by Taran Tactical Innovations (TTI). Those guns are hand-fitted masterpieces that cost anywhere from $3,000 to $7,000.

The Canik TTI Combat is a collaboration. It takes the design language of those movie guns, the aggressive grip texture, the flat-shooting compensator, the lightning-fast trigger, and applies it to Canik’s reliable, cut-price polymer striker-fired platform.

Think of it as the “working man’s” Combat Master. It looks the part, it shoots the part, but it leaves you with enough cash to actually buy ammo.

Out of the Box: The “Unboxing” Experience

Canik has always embarrassed other manufacturers with their packaging, but the TTI Combat is on another level. It comes in a custom hard case that looks like it belongs in the Continental Hotel.

Inside, you aren’t just getting a gun. You’re getting a kit:

• The Pistol (obviously).
• Two magazines (one flush 18-round, one +3 extended 21-round).
• A custom competition holster.
• A challenge coin (a nice touch for collectors).
• Cleaning tools and optic plates.
• Two Recoil Springs: This is critical. We’ll get to why in a minute.

Performance: How Does It Shoot?

We took the TTI Combat to the flat range and ran it against a standard Canik Mete SFx and a Glock 34.

1. The Compensator

This is the first factory Canik with a proper compensator. Unlike threaded comps that can walk off, this one is a Quick-Attach design integrated into the barrel system. It works. Muzzle flip is noticeably flatter than the standard Mete. You can track your dot through the recoil impulse without losing the window.

2. The Trigger

Canik triggers are already the gold standard for striker-fired guns. The TTI trigger is somehow better. It breaks at a crisp 90 degrees with almost zero over-travel. It’s light, fast, and tactile. If you miss with this gun, it’s not the trigger’s fault.

3. The Grip

Taran Butler designed the texture, and you can feel it. It’s aggressive. If you have soft office hands, it might feel abrasive after 200 rounds. If you want a gun that won’t slip when your hands are sweaty or bloody, it’s perfect.

TTI Canik vs the Competition

While the TTI Combat dominates the “John Wick on a budget” niche, it faces stiff competition from established race guns and metal-framed precision tools. Here is how it stacks up against the current 2026 market leaders.

Canik TTI vs. S&W M&P9 M2.0 Competitor

The S&W Competitor offers a metal-framed feel with legendary American reliability and superior ergonomics that many find more natural than the Canik. However, the TTI Combat wins on the “out-of-the-box” experience, providing a significantly better factory trigger and an integral compensator that the S&W lacks.

Comparing the Canik to a Staccato XC or a Pit Viper is a classic case of “diminishing returns.” While the hand-fitted 2011s offer a level of “glass-smooth” cycling and a 1.5lb trigger that a polymer striker-fired gun can never truly match, the Canik TTI Combat gives you the “John Wick” aesthetic and high-level flat-shooting performance for about $5,000 less.

The Reliability Elephant in the Room

If you search the forums, you’ll see complaints. “My TTI Combat won’t cycle!” “Failure to return to battery!”

Here is the truth: This is a race gun, not a duty gun.

Race guns are tuned to run on the edge of physics. The compensator redirects gas away from the slide, which means there is less energy to cycle the action.

The Fix:

Remember those two springs in the box?

• Standard Spring: Designed for 124gr NATO or hot defensive ammo.
• Lighter Spring: Designed for lighter 115gr range ammo.

Most issues we saw came from shooters running weak 115gr range fodder with the heavy spring installed. Read the manual. Swap the spring if you’re shooting cheap bulk ammo. Once we tuned the spring to our ammo, our test gun ran flawless 124gr and 147gr loads.

The Verdict: Should You Buy It?

If you are looking for a home defense pistol or a duty weapon, buy a Glock 17 or a standard Canik Mete. They are looser, uglier, and will eat trash ammo without complaining.

But if you want to crush it at your local USPSA match, or if you just want the coolest-looking gun on the range without taking out a second mortgage, the Canik TTI Combat is a masterpiece.

It brings the high-speed, low-drag performance of the John Wick universe down to a price point that makes sense for the rest of us. And for that, we think it’s a winner.

Other Cheap John Wick Guns

The TTI handguns, AR-15s and shotguns that John Wick has wielded since the second film are insanely expensive and we have to give Taran Butler props for one of the most epic product placements and merchandising deals in the world. I mean he has the world’s greatest assassin as a brand ambassador and he’s selling guns like Jurassic Park lunchboxes. The sheer audacity alone is amazing.

But the guns have become increasingly insane, and not all of us can drop $7,000 for a double stack combat master. And I’d argue whether it’s worth it anyway. I’d also argue that the gun choice turned into a nonsense after John Wick 2, and the third instalment still bugs me.

Knowing an elite troop of heavily armed men with BODY ARMOR were on the way, John chose a 9mm handgun and rifle, rather than a 5.7x28mm set-up that must have been in that armory. Why? Because TTI wanted to sell you a gun. It was a plot hole that grinds my gears to this day.

HK P30L

Before the brand deals took over, when John Wick was just a man pissed off about his dog and car, he carrier a HK P30 Long Slide with a compensator. I still think it was the coolest gun in the whole franchise, and it’s yours for around $700-$750 in today’s market.

Kel-Tec KSG

This high-capacity shotgun made multiple appearances in the films and is a super fun gun to shoot. You get 12+1 shells in this twin tube pump action shotgun, it’s a great tactical shotgun if you get a smooth one and a bit of internal polishing tends to fix any jams. I love them, and for about $700 it’s an awful lot of gun for the money.
