Now you know that best Sig Sauer pistols aren’t going to be the cheapest option. But the guns are reliable, accurate, well designed and will serve you well for years. Of course there have been a couple of blots on the company copy book over the years, but it does make some of the best pistols and rifles in its price range.
Sig is always in a dogfight with Glock, Smith & Wesson and Springfield Armory in the consumer sector, too. There are plenty of Americans out there that would take the Swiss engineering every time.

2. Sig Sauer P365 XMacro

The Sig Sauer P365 XMacro is probably the closest Glock 19 rival you’ll find here, and plenty of people will tell you it’s a better gun.
This compact powerhouse is ideal for those who want a concealable firearm without compromising performance or capacity in the double stack mag with 17+1 rounds before you even get into the extended mags. And it’s big enough that it can easily double as your home defense handgun.
It is at the absolute top end of the price scale for a Sig Sauer P365, plus a bit. But this is a complete handgun with interchangeable backstraps for a perfect grip, XRay3 Day/Night sights and an optics-ready slide. There’s a rail for a light, an XSeries flat trigger and you can find them with a manual safety, too, or fit one as an aftermarket accessory.
The model has evolved into a line and you can go for the Sig Sauer XMacro Comp with a shorter barrel and built-in compensator, which is another great gun. While we love the Sig P365 XMacro Comp, and the P365 XL Rose Comp with subtle accent color add-ons from the Sig Custom Works team, they’re both niche choices and this is the better all-rounder.

3. Sig Sauer P226
- Price: $1,000+

The Sig Sauer P226 is a tactical masterpiece, and is the civilian version of a service pistol that serves law enforcement and military units around the world every single day. This full-sized pistol features a steel frame with a PVD finish, custom G-10 grips, and an enhanced action with an SRT (Short Reset Trigger). Now this hammer-fired handgun also comes optics-ready, which is handy for tactical teams who like red dot sights up top of their Sig P226.
The Sig P226 & P229, it’s more compact sibling, are approved by basically every police unit in the country. The Navy SEALs replaced the Beretta M9 with the Sig P226 MK25 and Federal agencies love it. They absolutely deserve their place on any list of the best Sig Sauer pistols, but the heavy weight and steel construction do count against it when it comes to daily carry.

4. Sig P320 AXG Legion

The P320 AXG (Alloy X Grip) is a versatile, all-metal frame pistol with a twin port expansion chamber, effectively a built in compensator, to help reduce the recoil. It comes with Hogue G10 grips, an XSeries straight trigger and the signature grey Cerakote finish. It’s also optics ready and you can slot the Romeo1Pro sights right on there and use them to co-witness with the XRAY3 day/night sights.
It’s great for home defense and the 25% reduced reoil makes it a great range gun, too, especially with some high capacity mags. If you can find the extra money, this is one of the best Sig Sauer pistols in 2025.
The original Sig P320 won the military contract and looked set to destroy the Glock 19 on the consumer market. The stage was set for Sig to dominate, but a series of accidental discharges damaged the gun’s reputation and it has been a long road to recovery. It’s pretty much there now.
The drop test issues are long gone and Sig has worked hard to expand the line, to take a compact handgun designed as a service pistol and turn it into whatever you want. You can build your own P320 from a frame, or buy a top end Custom Works gun off the shelf.

5. Sig Sauer P229 Legion

The P229 Legion is another stellar option for those seeking a robust, reliable sidearm. You can get more advanced versions of these hammer fired handguns from the custom works team as well, but we like the Legion.

Competition shooters love this pistol, which is good because it is seriously expensive. You can order a 9mm or 22LR and it’s the 22LR that has the bigger reputation.

7. Sig Sauer M17

The Sig Sauer M17 is the civilian version of the US Army’s Modular Handgun System. This striker-fired pistol features a coyote-tan PVD coated stainless slide, an M1913 accessory rail, and a removable night sight plate for optics compatibility.
The Sig P320 M17 service pistol offers reliability and performance in a combat-proven design, although the accidental discharge issues that plagued the Sig P320 were also a problem for the military in the early days. Now this gun is largely replacing the Sig P226 for rank and file soldiers, and an increasing number of elite military units carry these Sig pistols too.
High capacity pistol magazines are easy to come by and they transform this into a monster of a home defense special, and you can get a drop in threaded barrel easily enough.
The Sig M17 & M18 are modular options that share the same Fire Control Unit, but give you options for a full-size pistol or compact option for concealed carry. The Sig M17 & M18 are the official pistols of the US Army and the more compact version is the standard issue for the Air Force, Navy, Marines and even some of the Secret Service. So if you buy one of either, you’re in good company.

8. Sig Sauer Emperor Scorpion

You might not immediately think about a Sig Sauer 1911 when you’re looking for a fine example of John Moses Browning’s greatest creation, but maybe you should.
The Emperor Scorpion has a good reputation with those in the know. It’s super reliable, you can order a 10mm or 45 ACP version and you get a PVD finish, quality manual safety and high quality build on these Sig pistols with a single stack magazine for basic medium-range money.
There is a compact concealed carry version with a shorter barrel and rounded heel, too. It’s far from a new pistol, but it is a surprisingly good one.
