Atlanta’s gun scene runs from a store that has called itself the largest in the world since the 1970s to premium ranges with 100-yard indoor rifle lanes. Georgia has had permitless carry since April 12, 2022, and there is no state waiting period.

Adventure Outdoors in Smyrna and Governors Gun Club in Kennesaw sit northwest in Cobb County, and Sandy Springs covers the north side. If you buy online, pick the transfer dealer closest to home or work, because you will make the pickup trip during store hours.

Adventure Outdoors (Best Overall)

Open since 1977, Adventure Outdoors bills itself as the largest gun store in the world, with more than 15,000 guns in stock. Its 17-lane, 25-yard range is rated up to .338 Lapua, and machine-gun rentals are $125.
A store transfer form lists a $60 standard incoming transfer; the form is older, so confirm the fee before you ship.
Freedom Shooting Center, formerly Stoddard’s (Best In-Town Range)

Governors Gun Club (Best Premium Facility)

Kennesaw is the flagship: 32 pistol and rifle lanes, three 100-yard indoor rifle lanes and a 35,000-square-foot indoor shotgun field. Powder Springs, open since 2013, has 16 rifle-rated lanes and Class III rentals.
Its transfer page reads $40 for non-members and $50 for NFA items, plus $5 for each extra gun; the member rate is unclear, so call to confirm.
Quickshot Shooting Range, Buckhead (Best Range Without the Sales Pitch)

Quickshot is a range, not a gun store: it does not sell firearms. Buckhead has 12 lanes at 20 yards that take rifles up to .308.
It still handles transfers: $50 for non-members and $35 for members.
FFL Transfer Fees in Atlanta
All five Atlanta stores publish a transfer fee, and the spread is $25 for a standard gun: $60 at Adventure Outdoors against $35 at Freedom Shooting Center, where members pay as little as $10.

So Where Does Buying Online Fit In?
You don’t have to buy the gun from any of these shops. You only need a local dealer for the FFL transfer. Buy at the lowest national price, have it shipped to the dealer, fill out Form 4473 and walk out with it.
The transfer fee is the cost of the shortcut, so it pays to compare. In my experience the online savings beat the fee on a mid-range or premium gun. On a set-price gun like a Glock, the national price matches the local one, so the transfer fee is pure cost.
What to Bring to Your Transfer
- A current government photo ID showing your Georgia address. If your ID has an old address, bring a second government document that shows the current one.
- Your Weapons Carry License, if you have one. It counts as a NICS alternative, so the dealer can skip the background check call.
- Your order confirmation with the seller name and tracking number, so the counter can find the box fast.
- Payment for the transfer fee. Ask whether the store charges extra for card payments.
You fill out ATF Form 4473 at the counter. Answer every question exactly, sign it, and the dealer runs the check (or records your permit). With no state waiting period, you leave with the gun once you are approved.
How to Pick a Transfer Dealer
The fee is only part of it. Before you ship a gun to any dealer, I call and ask four things: the fee per gun, whether a second gun in the same box costs less, whether they take NFA items and what that costs, and how long they hold a gun before charging storage. Ask them to confirm they will accept a shipment from your online seller, and get their FFL copy sent to the seller if the seller needs it.
In Atlanta, the published fees in the table above are a good starting point. Membership pricing can pay for itself if you transfer more than two or three guns a year, and at several of these stores a range membership comes bundled with the discount.
How Long a Transfer Takes
Most of the wait is shipping. An in-stock gun from a big online store leaves the warehouse in one to three business days and spends two to five days in transit, so plan on a week from order to pickup. The store emails or calls when the box arrives and is logged into its records.
The counter part is fast: filling out Form 4473 and the background check take 15 to 30 minutes on a normal day. Weekends before deer season and Black Friday are the slow times, so go midweek if you can. Weapons Carry License holders save a few minutes more because the dealer records the permit instead of calling NICS.
Check the hours too. The cheapest dealer is no bargain if its transfer counter closes before you get off work, and some stores only process transfers on certain days. A store with long evening and weekend hours, close to home, is worth a few extra dollars per gun. Keep your receipt and tracking number handy, and wait for the store to confirm the gun is logged in before you drive over.
Buying Used in Atlanta
Used guns are where a local counter still beats online on price, because you can inspect the bore, the action and the finish before you pay. Ask for the store’s return or warranty policy on used guns in writing, check the serial number area for damage, and dry-fire it if the counter allows. Georgia Gun Laws for Buyers
