SIG Sauer P385: A New 9mm That Runs P320 Magazines

Quick take: SIG Sauer unveiled the P385 on September 22, 2026, a new family of 9mm striker-fired pistols built around a brand-new fire control unit. The part current SIG owners will care about most: it runs standard P320 magazines.

• What it is: Five 9mm striker-fired models (MACH3D, COMP, FULL, CARRY and COMPACT) built on a new serialized fire control unit with a flush-faced Trigger Block.
• Price: SIG has not published an MSRP for any P385 model, and every version on its site is still marked coming soon.

Most new striker guns from a big maker are either a fresh grip on an old chassis or a caliber swap nobody asked for. This one is a clean-sheet pistol, and SIG is being unusually direct about the question every buyer will ask, which is whether it exists because of the P320. We pulled the spec sheets straight from SIG so you don’t have to.

What SIG Actually Built Into the P385

SIG introduced the P385 at SIG NEXT, its invitation-only event for top customers and media partners, and put out its launch release the same day. “The all-new SIG SAUER P385 was developed from the ground-up,” said Eric McKenzie, Director of Commercial Product Management at SIG SAUER. For once, that line holds up on the spec sheet.

The heart of the gun is a new serialized fire control unit, designed for the P385 alone. SIG lists a removable FCU, interchangeable slides and barrels, and a Magstrap system that can change the grip from full-size to compact length without swapping the whole grip module. That is the P320 idea, rebuilt from scratch.

The trigger gets the headline feature. SIG calls it the Trigger Block, a patented part that gives the pistol a redundant drop safety while keeping the trigger face flush, so there is no tab sticking out of the shoe. SIG also says the P385 will meet all industry drop-test standards even without the Trigger Block.

Around that sit the SIG Recoil Dampening System (SRDS), which lives in the grip module, and a low bore axis. The release claims muzzle rise drops by 20 percent or more depending on the model, and SIG’s P385 product page puts the MACH3D compensator at more than 30%. Those are SIG’s numbers, and the usual round-counters will test them.

The slide is SIG-LOC PRO, which SIG says direct-mounts RMR and DPP footprint optics with no adapter plate. Controls are fully ambidextrous: slide catch lever, magazine catch and the optional manual thumb safety.

The Five-Model P385 Lineup, Spec by Spec

The P385-CARRY is the model SIG has fully dimensioned. The 385CA-9-BXR3 has a 4 in carbon steel barrel, a 7.22 in overall length, 1.32 in width, 5.64 in height and a weight of 28.94 oz with magazine. It wears XRAY3 day/night sights on a Nitron stainless slide, has an M1913 rail, and ships with one 17-round and one 21-round steel magazine, or two 10-rounders.

The RXSL version of the Carry comes with a ROMEO-X optic installed, which takes the height to 6.42 in and the weight to 29.12 oz.

The P385-FULL stretches the barrel to 4.7 in and ships with the same 17 plus 21 or two 10-round options. The P385-COMPACT keeps the 4 in barrel, uses a compact Magstrap grip and comes with two 15-round magazines.

Then there are the two compensated guns. The P385-COMP has an integrally compensated slide over a 4 in barrel and ships with one 17 and two 21-round magazines (or three 10s). The P385-MACH3D uses SIG’s MACH3D compensator, which SIG says is additively manufactured, also over a 4 in barrel, with one 17 and two 21-round magazines.

Every model is 9mm Luger. Asked about other calibers, SIG’s answer is “Not at this time.” SIG also says there will be models legal in Carry Optics, Open and other competition divisions.

The P320 Magazine Question, Answered by SIG

Here is the buyer hook. The P385 uses the standard P320 magazine, and SIG spells out the one catch: if you run the original P320 “round” basepad magazines, you have to remove the P385’s metal magwell first.

Magazines are nearly the whole compatibility list. SIG says P320 magazines, the P320 AXG magwell and P-Series dovetailed iron sights work, and “All other components are specific to the P385 platform.” The Magstrap lets you set grip length from 17-round to 15-round flush, and circumference comes in three sizes: small 1.95 in, medium 2.15 in and large 2.25 in. Trigger reach is about 2.9 inches.

Holsters are the part that will sting. SIG says flatly that the P385 is not P320 or P365 holster compatible. Initial holsters come from Safariland, ANR, BlackPoint and several others, so budget for new leather (or new Kydex) along with the gun.

If you already own a SIG P320, the practical math is simple. Your magazines carry over, your holster doesn’t, and your optic probably does if it is an RMR or DPP footprint.

Why SIG Keeps Saying the P385 Is Not About the P320

SIG raises the elephant itself. Its own FAQ asks whether SIG launched the P385 “because of the perceived issues with P320,” then answers: “No. The P385 has been in development for years.” The same FAQ says the P320, including the M17 and M18, “will remain available to customers.”

I’d take SIG at its word on the timeline, because a new serialized FCU, a patented trigger and five production configurations don’t come together in a quarter. But a flush-faced redundant drop safety is exactly the feature a buyer shopping around the P320 drop-fire lawsuits would ask for, and SIG knows it.

And the Trigger Block is not migrating. SIG says it is not coming to the P320 or P365 “at this time,” which makes it a P385 exclusive for now.

If you trust your P320, the P385 is a sidegrade that happens to share your magazines. If you have wanted a SIG striker gun with a second drop safety built into the trigger, this is SIG’s answer.

When You Can Buy a P385, and What It Will Cost

SIG has not printed a price. The release gives no MSRP, and all five product pages on SIG’s site list the pistols as coming soon with no dollar figure, even while the optics on those same pages show prices. Anyone quoting you a P385 price today is guessing.

Timing is “this fall and early winter,” in black or coyote brown. SIG also says it plans state-compliant P385 models for states that require them, with no dates attached.
