Guns.com is the Minnesota company that started as a gun news site in 2011 and turned into one of the biggest online gun stores in the country. It doesn’t run one warehouse. It lists guns from a network of thousands of local gun shops, plus its own stock of inspected used guns, so the catalog is huge. The question is whether that makes it a good place to buy a gun in 2026, and whether it’s legit.
To answer it, I read the Guns.com help center, return policy, shipping policy and Certified Used pages on October 24, 2026, and went through its Trustpilot profile. Then I used our own retailer feed, which tracks prices at the stores in our best online gun stores ranking, to test three things nobody else has measured: how often Guns.com has the gun you want, whether its used guns are cheaper than new, and how its new-gun prices compare on identical models.

Guns.com Review: The Short Answer
Our Rating: 8/10
Pros
- The biggest selection we track: it had 41 of the 42 guns we searched for, and 735 brands
- The best place we know to find rare and collectible guns, often the only store with one listed
- Used guns were cheaper than the best new price on 15 of 20 models we checked
- Certified Used guns get a 10-point inspection, and Guns.com contacts your FFL dealer for you
Cons
- New guns are final sale once you accept the transfer
- On new guns it was higher than the cheapest rival on 13 of 22 identical models
- No price matching, and no changes or cancellations after you order
- Customers say it is hard to reach a person by phone
Yes, Guns.com is legit. It is a federally licensed dealer in Burnsville, Minnesota, every gun it sells ships to a licensed dealer for a background check, and it holds a 3.7 out of 5 on Trustpilot from 4,216 reviews. Its real strength is availability. If a gun exists, new or used, common or rare, you’ll almost always find one listed on Guns.com, and that is the first place I look for anything hard to find. Its weak spot is new-gun pricing and the return policy on new guns, so price check a new gun before you buy, and inspect any gun at the counter before you sign for it.

Is Guns.com Legit?
Yes. Guns.com holds a Federal Firearms License, it lists its address in Burnsville, Minnesota, and every gun it sells goes to a licensed dealer near you, where you fill out the paperwork and pass a background check before you take it home. Only licensed dealers can sell on the site. Its help center says it does “not allow individuals to sell to others on our site,” which is the big difference from a classifieds marketplace like GunsAmerica.
Its Trustpilot score of 3.7 from 4,216 reviews is far better than most stores in our ranking. 66 percent of those reviews are five stars and 19 percent are one star. The profile is claimed, and Trustpilot notes the company has not asked customers for reviews recently, so the score isn’t being pushed up by review invitations.
Selection: You’ll Almost Always Find the Gun You Want
This is where Guns.com beats everyone. Because it lists inventory from thousands of local gun shops as well as its own used stock, it had 24,067 guns in our feed on October 24, 2026. To test what that means for a buyer, I searched our feed for 42 guns: 18 of the most popular models on the market and 24 that are hard to find, from a Colt Python to a Luger P08. Then I counted which stores had at least one listed.

Guns.com had 41 of the 42. The next best store, Bass Pro, had 33, and Brownells had 14. The only gun on the list Guns.com didn’t have was a Winchester Model 70. It also listed 735 different brands, against 514 at the next store.
The gap is widest on the guns you can’t walk into a store and buy. These are the counts from our feed on the same day:
| Gun | Listings at Guns.com | Most at any other store |
|---|---|---|
| Colt Python | 94 | 28 |
| Remington 1100 | 34 | 1 |
| SKS | 31 | 1 |
| Ruger Super Blackhawk | 39 | 3 |
| Browning Hi-Power | 22 | 2 |
| Savage 99 | 12 | 0 |
| FN FAL | 5 | 0 |
| HK P7 | 5 | 0 |
| Luger P08 | 2 | 0 |
Most of that rare stock is used, which is the point. A German Luger, an HK P7 or an original Colt Python only exists on the used market now, and Guns.com puts thousands of local gun shops’ used racks in one search. If you collect, or you want one specific gun, start here. You can see what an original Python is worth in our Colt Python value guide before you buy one.
Used Guns at Guns.com: Certified Used vs Everything Else
Used guns are the heart of Guns.com. 13,235 of the 24,067 guns in our feed were used, more than half. They come in two kinds, and the difference matters when something goes wrong.
Certified Used guns are Guns.com’s own stock. Its gunsmiths inspect each one, per its Certified Used page, on what it calls “a detailed 10-point checklist,” and the collection only includes guns rated very good to excellent. You get a no-questions return for 3 days after you pick it up, minus fees, and a full refund with shipping paid if it has a mechanical defect within 7 days.
Other used guns come from dealers in the network. They can only go back for a mechanical defect, within 3 days, and then the sale is final. Read the listing photos and description carefully, and ask the seller a question before you buy if anything is unclear. For more on buying second-hand, see our used guns for sale page.
Is Used Actually Cheaper? 20 Models Checked
Buying used should save money, but it doesn’t always. I took 20 models where Guns.com had a used listing and our feed had the same model new, and compared the cheapest used listing at Guns.com with the cheapest new price at any store.

Used was cheaper on 15 of the 20, with a median saving of 9.2 percent. The best savings were on popular mid-priced pistols: a used Sig Sauer SP2022 at $399.99 against $599.99 new, a Canik TP9SFx at $329.99 against $441.43, and a Ruger Security-9 at $220.99 against $292.99. The other 5 cost more used than new, and all five were budget guns under $500.00, where the new price is already low. The lesson is simple: on a cheap gun, check the new price before you buy used.

| Sig Sauer SP2022 | $399.99 | $599.99 (Guns.com) | Save 33.3% |

New Gun Prices vs Other Stores: 22 Identical Models
New guns are a different story. I matched 22 new guns by the maker’s model number, so each pair is the same gun, and compared Guns.com with the cheapest other store in our feed on the same day.

Guns.com was the cheapest on 7, tied on 2 and higher on 13. Bought at Guns.com, the whole basket comes to $26,801.78. Bought at the cheapest store for each gun, it comes to $25,722.13, so Guns.com ran 4.2 percent over. Most of the gaps were small, and on a gun that sells at a fixed advertised price, Guns.com matches the field. On a few it was well over, like a Colt LE6920 at $996.99 against $839.99 at Sportsman’s Warehouse.

Guns.com doesn’t price match. Its help center says “We do not currently price match”, so if a new gun is cheaper elsewhere, buy it there. Our guide to buying guns online for less covers where the savings are.
Buying a Gun From Guns.com
Guns.com makes the FFL part easier than most stores. You pick a dealer near you at checkout, and Guns.com contacts that dealer, gets a copy of the license and checks that it is current. You don’t have to call your gun shop and ask them to send it. Here is how an order works:
- You must be 21 or older to buy any gun on the site, even a rifle or shotgun.
- Pay by Visa, Mastercard, Discover or American Express, or finance through Credova.
- Gun shipping is a variable charge based on the price of the gun, per the shipping policy, and Package Protection is added at checkout unless you untick it.
- Allow 5 to 7 days for the gun to reach your dealer. If it is already in stock at a local shop, you can pick it up right away.
- Your dealer charges a transfer fee for the background check and paperwork. See our FFL transfer fees by state guide.
- Pick it up within 14 days of arrival, or the order is cancelled and you lose the shipping, a $30 return fee and a 15% restocking fee.
One catch: once you place an order, you can’t change or cancel it. Check the gun, the caliber and your dealer before you pay. Our FFL transfer guide explains the counter side of the process state by state.
Make an Offer and Guns.com Auctions
On many used guns you can click Make an Offer instead of paying the listed price. The seller has 24 business hours to accept, decline or counter, and Guns.com says “The majority of accepted offers fall in the 80-95% range”. You get one counteroffer, and then you can’t negotiate on that gun for 30 days. Offers don’t work on new guns, because makers control new-gun pricing.
Guns.com also runs no-reserve auctions from dealers in its network. Bids are binding, a bid in the last 15 minutes extends the auction by 15 minutes, and if you win, the card on file is billed after 24 hours. Auctions aren’t available in California, Connecticut, Alaska and Hawaii, and Massachusetts and Vermont can’t join yet.
The Guns.com Return Policy

This is the part to read before you buy. The Guns.com return policy says “All new gun & new lower receiver sales are final.” New guns are covered by the maker’s warranty instead, and Guns.com will help you contact the maker. Accessories, optics, magazines and ammo are also final sale.
Used guns get more protection, as above: Certified Used guns can go back for any reason for 3 days, minus the $30 return shipping fee, the original shipping and a 15% restocking fee, or for a full refund with shipping paid if there is a mechanical defect within 7 days. Other used guns can only go back for a defect within 3 days. Because every window starts at the transfer, the policy’s own advice is the best advice: inspect the gun thoroughly at the dealer before you accept it.
Selling Your Gun to Guns.com
Guns.com also buys used guns for its own stock. You describe the gun and upload photos, it sends an offer that is good for 10 business days, and if you accept, it emails a prepaid shipping label. It inspects the gun when it arrives and then pays you by direct deposit, check or a Guns.com eGift card, which comes with a bonus. There are no fees, but if the gun doesn’t match your description, the offer is void and you pay a $50 fee to get it back. It doesn’t buy NFA items, forced reset triggers or binary triggers. Compare that offer with your other options in our guide to selling a gun.
What Guns.com Customers Say
With 4,216 reviews and a 3.7 score, Guns.com has one of the better reputations in the online gun business. The happy reviews praise the selection, fast shipping to the dealer and used guns that match their listing; one September 2026 buyer wrote that the “Description on site matched inspection perfectly.” The 19 percent who give one star complain about the same few things: no live agent on the phone, a used gun that wasn’t as described, and slow replies. Guns.com has replied to 16 percent of negative reviews. If you need help, the return line is (866) 582-4867, but expect to start with the online contact form.

How to Get the Best Deal at Guns.com
- Search Guns.com first to see every version of the gun that’s out there, then compare the new price at other stores.
- On used guns, use Make an Offer. Accepted offers mostly fall at 80 to 95 percent of the listed price.
- On a budget gun, check the new price before you buy used. In our check, five cheap used guns cost more than new.
- Pick Certified Used if you can, for the 10-point inspection and the 3-day any-reason return.
- Check the Warehouse Clearance sale, which covers select used guns only.
- Inspect the gun at your dealer before you accept the transfer.
Final Verdict
Guns.com earns an 8/10. It’s a legitimate, licensed store with a better reputation than most, and no store we track comes close on selection. It had 41 of our 42 test guns, it was often the only store with a rare gun listed, and its used guns were cheaper than new on 15 of 20 models. It loses points for final-sale new guns, no price matching, new-gun prices that ran 4.2 percent over the cheapest store on our basket, and hard-to-reach phone support.
Who should buy here: anyone hunting for a specific or hard-to-find gun, collectors, and used-gun buyers. Who should shop around: buyers of new, common guns who want the lowest price. Find it on Guns.com, check the price elsewhere, and inspect it at the counter.
