Quick Take
The Benelli Lupo was Benelli’s first bolt-action rifle when it debuted at SHOT Show 2020. Lupo is Italian for wolf. Benelli took what it knows from shotgun stocks, fit and recoil reduction, and built a hunting rifle around it: a shim kit for drop, cast and trigger reach, an adjustable length of pull, and a recoil system in the stock. Then it backed every field Lupo with a three-shot sub-MOA guarantee.
We put 400 rounds through a 6.5 Creedmoor Lupo. It shot well under an inch with good ammo, the trigger is excellent, and it’s one of the softest-recoiling hunting rifles we’ve shot. The trade-off is weight: at 7.5 pounds before a scope, it’s not a mountain rifle.
The buying detail most Lupo reviews miss: Benelli is running a $200 rebate plus a 12 month onX Hunt Elite subscription on Lupos bought between August 1 and December 31, 2026, with claims postmarked by January 31, 2027. And the current Granite Moss line lists at $1,949 across nine calibers, from .223 Remington to 7mm PRC and .300 Win Mag.
Best For: Hunters who want a rifle that fits like a custom gun and shoots under an inch out of the box. Not for ultralight backcountry hunters or anyone who wants walnut and blued steel.
What Makes the Lupo Different
Benelli’s Lupo page describes three ideas that set it apart from other factory hunting rifles.
- Metal bedding: Benelli says hardened steel barrel components are bedded directly to the alloy receiver, so the metal-to-metal contact isn’t affected by weather, which is the basis of its sub-MOA guarantee.
- Fit out of the box: Each Lupo comes with a shim kit for drop, cast and trigger reach, and the length of pull adjusts from 13.8 to 14.75 inches. Most factory rifles fit one body shape.
- Progressive Comfort: Benelli’s patented recoil system, built into the stock, the same idea it uses in its shotguns.
The barrel goes through what Benelli calls a 3-step process: vacuum heat treatment, electrochemical rifling and its Crio treatment, which it says removes internal stress. The bolt has a 60 degree throw, and the trigger adjusts from 2.2 to 4.4 pounds.
Lupo Calibers and Specs
Benelli’s current Lupo table lists nine calibers in the Granite Moss finish, all at $1,949. Here’s how they compare, straight from that table.

The twist rates matter if you shoot long, heavy bullets. The 6.5 PRC at 1 in 7.5 inches and the 6.5 Creedmoor and .223 at 1 in 8 are set up for the heavy, high-BC bullets long-range hunters like. The .30-06 at 1 in 11 is a traditional hunting twist. All but the .300 Win Mag hold 5 rounds.
Who Should NOT Buy This Gun
- Ultralight hunters: 7.2 to 7.5 pounds before a scope is heavy for long climbs. A Tikka T3x Lite is lighter.
- Traditionalists: The polymer stock and alloy receiver don’t look like a classic hunting rifle. Benelli sells walnut versions, at a higher price.
- Buyers on a budget: A Tikka, Bergara or Sauer 100 shoots very well for hundreds less.
- Left-handed shooters: The Granite Moss models in Benelli’s table are right-handed.
How the Lupo Compares
Tikka T3x Lite ($698 to $1,288)
The Tikka T3x Lite is the rifle most people cross-shop. It’s lighter, cheaper and famously smooth, and it’s accurate out of the box. It doesn’t adjust to fit you the way the Lupo does, and it kicks harder. If weight and price matter most, buy the Tikka.

Bergara B-14 Ridge ($780 to $970)
The Bergara B-14 Ridge has a heavier barrel and a reputation for accuracy at a much lower price. It’s a great value rifle, but it has no recoil system in the stock and no shim kit for fit.

Sauer 100 ($430 to $1,300)
The Sauer 100 is the budget German option with a good trigger, and at its lower prices it is the best value of the group. For more options, see our best hunting rifles.
How We Tested It
Our test rifle was a 6.5 Creedmoor Lupo with a 24 inch barrel and a 3-15x scope. We shot it on three range days in September and October 2026, 400 rounds total, from the bench at 100 and 300 yards and from field positions, and carried it on two days of hunting.

Phase 1: Setup
We spent ten minutes with the shim kit before shooting a round, adjusting drop and length of pull until the scope lined up with our eye without moving our head. That’s the Lupo’s real advantage: it fit like it was made for us. The trigger came set at about 3 pounds, and we left it there.
Phase 2: Accuracy
With match ammo, three-shot groups at 100 yards ran 0.6 to 0.9 MOA, inside Benelli’s guarantee. With hunting ammo they ran 0.8 to 1.1 MOA. At 300 yards the rifle held steel plates easily from a bipod.
Phase 3: Reliability and Recoil
400 rounds, no failures to feed or extract. Recoil in 6.5 Creedmoor was mild, and Progressive Comfort noticeably softened it compared with the hunting rifles we shot alongside it.
Ammunition Log
| Ammunition | Rounds | 100 yd group | Notes |
| Hornady ELD Match 140 gr | 150 | 0.6 MOA | Best accuracy |
| Federal Gold Medal Berger 130 gr | 100 | 0.7 MOA | Consistent |
| Hornady Precision Hunter 143 gr ELD-X | 100 | 0.8 MOA | Our hunting load |
| Federal Fusion 140 gr | 50 | 1.1 MOA | Fine for deer |
What This Means for You
Spend time with the shim kit before you sight in. A rifle that fits you is easier to shoot well, and the Lupo is one of the few factory rifles that lets you get it right.
Performance Results
Accuracy (9/10)
Under an inch with good ammo, as Benelli guarantees.
Fit (10/10)
The shim kit and length of pull adjustment are the best in its class.
Weight (6/10)
At 7.5 pounds before a scope, it’s heavy for mountain hunting.
Value (7/10)
More than a Tikka or Bergara, but the rebate helps.
Technical Deep Dive
Metal Bedding and the Alloy Receiver
Most rifles bed the action into the stock. The Lupo bolts the barrel components to an alloy receiver with steel parts doing the work, so the stock isn’t part of the accuracy equation. That’s why changing the stock fit with shims doesn’t move your zero.
Threaded Barrel
Every Granite Moss Lupo has a 5/8×24 threaded barrel, ready for a muzzle brake or a suppressor. See our best suppressors if you’re thinking about one.
| Component | Specification | Benefit |
| Barrel | Free-floating Crio, threaded 5/8×24 | Accuracy, suppressor ready |
| Bedding | Steel components bedded to alloy receiver | Zero holds in weather |
| Stock | Shim kit, adjustable length of pull | Custom fit out of the box |
| Recoil | Progressive Comfort | Softer shooting |
| Trigger | Adjustable 2.2 to 4.4 lb. | Clean break |
Upgrades Worth Making
- A good scope: A rifle this accurate deserves glass to match. See our best rifle scopes.
- A sling: Benelli fits sling studs, and a padded sling makes 7.5 pounds easier to carry.
- A suppressor: The threaded barrel makes it easy.
Common Problems and Fixes
- Scope doesn’t line up with your eye: Use the shim kit to raise or lower the comb before buying higher rings.
- Trigger too light for hunting with gloves: Turn it up toward 4 pounds.
- Heavy to carry: A lighter scope and mount trims weight.
Final Verdict
The Benelli Lupo is a factory rifle that fits like a custom one. It shot under an inch with good ammo, recoils softly, and has one of the best triggers in its class. If you can live with 7.5 pounds and the modern look, it’s a superb hunting rifle.
It costs more than a Tikka T3x Lite or a Bergara B-14 Ridge, both of which shoot very well. Buy the Lupo before December 31, 2026 to get the $200 rebate and onX code, and buy a Tikka if light weight matters more than fit.
Final Score: 8.5/10. The best-fitting factory hunting rifle we’ve tested.
