It holds one more round than a G29. On our cards it was $629.99 at Sportsman’s Warehouse. Make sure you are looking at the 3.8-inch model: the 4.5-inch full size sells under almost the same name.
Best For: anyone who wants a new compact 10mm with a warranty and an optic cut.
2. Glock 20 V MOS: Best Service-Size 10mm

The G20 V MOS is the 10mm Glock you can still buy new, and it’s the one most people should. Glock’s spec sheet puts it at 15+1 rounds, a 4.61-inch barrel and 25.22 ounces empty, and the MOS cut takes a red dot.
It’s a full-size gun, so carrying it means an outside-the-waistband holster or a chest rig. But if you hike or fish in bear country, that’s exactly how you would carry it anyway. It was $620.99 at Sportsman’s Warehouse on our card. Our 10mm for bear defense guide covers loads for that job.

3. Smith & Wesson M&P10mm M2.0: Best Value

The M&P10mm M2.0 was the cheapest pistol on our cards at $589.99 for the 4-inch, 15+1 model at Sportsman’s Warehouse. That is real capacity in a gun a little shorter than the Glock 20.
You can get it with or without a manual thumb safety, and some versions are optic ready. Read the listing before you buy, because the card shows the safety and barrel options side by side.
Best For: the buyer who wants 15+1 rounds of 10mm for the least money.
4. Glock 29: The Classic Compact 10mm, If You Can Find One

The Glock 29 is the gun most people mean when they say compact 10mm: 10+1 rounds and a 3.78-inch barrel in a frame a little smaller than a Glock 19. It sat at number one on this list for years.
Here’s the catch. Glock’s US site now lists the G29 Gen 4, SF and Gen 5 only under law enforcement, and the commercial catalog has no G29 at all. Civilian guns still turn up as dealer stock: on October 31, 2026 a Gen 5 was $529.99 at KYGUNCO and a Gen 4 was $649.99 at Sportsman’s Outdoor Superstore. 5. Rock Island Tac Ultra FS HC: 16+1 Rounds in a 1911

A full-size 1911 isn’t a carry gun for most people. This one makes the list anyway, because it holds 16 rounds of 10mm in a double-stack 1911 frame, and the weight that makes it hard to carry also makes 10mm easy to shoot.
It was $765.99 at Guns.com on our card, and Palmetto State Armory had the optic-cut version at $818.99. For a home-defense gun that can ride in the truck, that’s a lot of 10mm for the money.

6. SIG Sauer P220 Legion 10mm: The Premium Full-Size Pick

10. Ruger GP100 Match Champion 10mm: The Revolver Option

Some people carry a revolver, and the GP100 Match Champion in 10mm is the one to carry. It is a six-shot steel wheelgun with a 4.2-inch barrel and adjustable sights.

I am fortunate to have all the guns featured in this article except for the Wiley Clapp revolver., I have shot them all extensively. My favorite is the steel EAA Witness Compact, as I have modified it. I tend to gild the lily and frequently modify all my guns. For example, all my Glocks have aftermarket triggers, sights, recoil springs on the more powerful, magazine springs, sometimes firing pins, and so forth.
In the case of my Witness Compact, I had the front sight machined into the slide milled off and replaced with a slot fit to accept my favorite aftermarket sights, replaced the guide rod with a cone-shaped rod, replaced the recoil spring with one two pounds heavier and put new springs throughout the gun. I also added aftermarket grips from Copper Grip. The double-action trigger pull is now just a shade over 6 pounds on my Lyman gauge. I like to carry hammer down on a live round with the manual safety on. With the greatly reduced double-action pull, it works for me.
The gun shoots beautifully and is wonderfully accurate in my hands. It shades the Glocks I own but not by much.
