Last updated October 2026 · By Nick Hall, rimfire lever gun shooter with 600 rounds through the Browning BL-22 and 500 through the Henry Big Boy X for this site
Quick take: Savage has added a third rifle to its Revel rimfire lever action line, the Revel Tactical, with an MDT Tactical stock, a one-piece Picatinny rail and a threaded 18-inch barrel. It comes in .22 LR at $629 and in .22 WMR or .17 HMR at $659.
- What it is: A takedown rimfire lever action with an MDT Tactical stock, a one-piece Picatinny rail, M-LOK slots on the fore-end and an 18-inch barrel threaded 1/2×28.
- Price: Savage lists the .22 LR at $629 MSRP and the .22 WMR and .17 HMR at $659 each.
- Where: Savage announced the rifle on October 8, 2026 with three SKUs and no ship date, and the Revel Tactical now leads the Savage homepage.
- Why it matters: The MSRPs match what Savage charges for the walnut Revel DLX, so the black stock, the rail and the M-LOK slots are a choice instead of an upcharge.
Most tactical lever guns are centerfire rifles, built for people who want a suppressor and a red dot on a pistol-caliber carbine or a deer rifle. This one is a .22, and it starts at $629. We pulled the announcement and the spec sheets straight from Savage so you don’t have to.

What Savage Changed on the Revel Tactical
The Revel Tactical “joins the existing REVEL Classic and REVEL DLX” in Savage’s words, which makes it the third model in a line that arrived in 2024. It is still a Revel lever action underneath. The furniture is where the walnut rifles and this one part ways.
The stock is what Savage calls an MDT Tactical stock, and the company credits it with “enhanced grip touchpoints for improved handling.” It has a custom designed pistol grip and a clip-on cheek riser that changes the comb height.
On top is a one-piece Picatinny rail, which the spec sheet lists as a 0 MOA base. The walnut Revels have a drilled and tapped receiver, and Savage sells a Revel scope rail to fit it. Here the rail is already on the gun. Savage also keeps adjustable iron sights on the Tactical, with a hooded front sight.
The fore-end carries M-LOK slots for a light, a bipod or a sling mount. And the barrel is an 18-inch medium-profile carbon steel tube with a threaded muzzle.
“From its customizable fit and accessory-ready design to the smooth action Savage is known for, the REVEL Tactical delivers the versatility, reliability and performance needed for everything from range days to small-game hunting and recreational shooting,” said Beth Shimanski, Vice President of Marketing at Savage Arms.
Three Calibers, Three SKUs, Two Prices
Savage’s Revel Tactical page lists three versions. SKU 46040 is the .22 LR at $629 MSRP. SKU 46140 is the .22 WMR at $659. SKU 46240 is the .17 HMR, also $659.
Those are the same three chamberings as the rest of the Revel family. The magnums cost $30 more, exactly as they do on the DLX.
The tube magazine holds 12 rounds of .22 LR or 9 rounds of either magnum. Savage lists every version at 6 pounds and 36.75 inches overall, with a 14.75-inch length of pull and a 2.5-pound trigger.
Twist is 1:16 on the .22 LR and the .22 WMR and 1:9 on the .17 HMR. The receiver is aluminum, and the stock is fixed, so the cheek riser is the adjustment you get.
Next to the walnut rifles, that is a tenth of a pound lighter and a quarter inch longer. Savage lists the Classic and DLX at 6.1 pounds and 36.5 inches, with the same 12 and 9 round capacities.
Like the other two, the Tactical is a takedown. Savage says the simple takedown mechanism is there for “ease of maintenance and transport.”
The Same Money as the Walnut Revel DLX
Here is the part worth a second look. Savage prices the Revel DLX at $629 in .22 LR and $659 in .22 WMR and .17 HMR. Those are the Tactical’s numbers, to the dollar.
The DLX already has a barrel threaded 1/2×28. So the decision between the two is about the stock and what you plan to hang on the rifle. Walnut with stippling on one side. Black synthetic, a rail and M-LOK on the other.
The Revel Classic is the cheap seat, listed by Savage at $499 in .22 LR and $519 in the magnums, with a satin walnut stock. Savage’s spec sheet for the .22 LR Classic lists the barrel as not threaded.
So the Revel line now runs from a $499 walnut plinker to two $629 rifles that take a suppressor, and the only thing Savage is asking you to decide at the top of the range is whether you want your lever gun to look like 1955 or like a chassis rifle that somebody taught to work a lever.
A Threaded Barrel on a Rimfire Lever Gun
Savage’s release says the 1/2×28 threads are there for “suppressors and other muzzle devices.” It is the same thread size Savage lists on the Revel DLX.
A lever action is a good host for one. The action stays closed until you work the lever, so there is no semi-auto action cycling next to your ear. I have 600 rounds through the Browning BL-22, and a quiet .22 lever gun is about as much fun as rimfire gets.
Suppressor ownership still depends on where you live. Check our suppressor laws by state page before you buy a can for this or any other rifle.
When You Can Buy a Savage Revel Tactical
Savage dated the release October 8, 2026 and put SKUs and MSRPs in it, but no ship date. The model page already has a Buy Now button on each version that hands you to Savage’s retail partners, with a note that not every firearm is available at every partner.
The Revel Tactical is also the lead slide on the Savage homepage, billed as a new tactical lever action rimfire, and the company’s Revel page lists Tactical next to Classic and DLX.
The $629 and $659 figures are MSRP, and Savage marks them as North American pricing. What your dealer charges may be lower.
But the price is the story here. If you want a rail, M-LOK and a threaded barrel on a centerfire lever gun, we put 500 rounds through one in our Henry Big Boy X review. If you want walnut on your rimfire, Savage will sell you the DLX for the same money.
Savage, headquartered in Westfield, Massachusetts, has been making firearms for more than 130 years. Not many of them looked like this.
Black stock. Threaded barrel. Same price as the pretty one.
