Savage Adds Four Rifles to the Ultralite Line

The range runs from the $1,899 110 Ultralite Predator to the 110 Ultralite Elite V2, which weighs a little over five pounds and costs up to $3,639. There is also a straight-pull Impulse in the family now.

Carbon fibre barrels were an exotic curiosity a decade ago and a $4,000 custom-shop item five years ago. Savage now sells four rifles wearing one, and the cheapest is under two thousand dollars.

What Savage Actually Announced

The announcement came out of Westfield, Massachusetts on August 26, 2026, and it is a revamp of the Ultralite series rather than a single new rifle. Four models arrive at once, covering a spread from around $1,899 to $3,639.

The common thread is weight. Every rifle in the family is built around a carbon fibre wrapped barrel and a stock chosen for mass rather than for looks, which is the combination that gets a centrefire bolt gun under six pounds.

Savage lists the full specification for each on its site, including the 110 Ultralite Elite V2 page, and the caliber tables are worth checking because barrel length varies considerably by chambering.

The Elite V2 Is the Headline and the Hardest Sell

A little over five pounds for a centrefire bolt-action rifle is genuinely impressive. Barrel lengths run from 18 to 22 inches depending on cartridge, the barrel is carbon fibre wrapped over stainless, and the stock is an MDT HNT26 folding carbon unit.

That MDT stock is a large part of both the weight figure and the price. It is a serious piece of equipment sold on its own for a substantial sum, and putting it on a factory rifle is what pushes this to $3,599 or more.

A five-pound rifle is a joy on the walk in and a handful at the shot, because recoil is a fixed quantity and a lighter rifle transmits more of it to you. That is the trade every ultralight rifle makes, and no amount of engineering removes it.

The Predator Is the One That Will Sell

At $1,899 the 110 Ultralite Predator is the model that makes the family accessible. Barrel lengths run from 16.5 to 22 inches, the stock is hunter green with Savage’s AccuFit V2 system and interchangeable grip modules, and the fore-end carries M-LOK panels and an integral ARCA rail.

The ARCA rail is the detail worth noticing. It means the rifle clamps directly onto a tripod head without an adapter, which is how a lot of predator hunting is actually done now, and it is not something you often find at this price on a rifle this light.

Straight-Pull Is Still the Interesting Experiment

The Impulse Ultralite Pro sits at $2,299 to $2,439 and uses Savage’s straight-pull action. Instead of lifting, drawing back, pushing forward and turning down, you pull straight back and push straight forward.

Straight-pull is normal in Europe and has never established itself in America, and Savage has been the only major domestic manufacturer willing to push it. The action is faster once you have learned it and it keeps your head closer to the stock between shots.

Putting it in the Ultralite family with an 18 to 24-inch carbon barrel is a sensible pairing, because a mountain rifle is exactly where a faster follow-up shot has obvious value.

What Carbon Fibre Barrels Do and Do Not Do

A carbon wrapped barrel is a thin steel liner with carbon fibre wound over it. You get the weight of a pencil profile with more rigidity than a pencil profile has, which is the entire point.

They also shed heat differently rather than better, and the practical effect is that a carbon barrel warms up fast and then holds a more consistent point of impact than a thin steel barrel does across a short string. For a hunting rifle firing three or four shots that is more than sufficient, and for a rifle firing forty rounds in an afternoon it is not what you want.

But that is a hunting rifle’s job description, and these are hunting rifles. Judge them on the first cold-bore shot rather than on a group fired at a leisurely pace.

Where This Sits Against the Competition

The lightweight hunting rifle segment has become genuinely crowded, and the honest summary is that several manufacturers now make a sub-six-pound carbon-barrelled bolt gun that shoots well. Differentiating on specification alone has become difficult.

Savage’s argument has always been value, and the Predator at $1,899 is the model that makes it. The Elite V2 at $3,639 is competing in a different conversation entirely, against custom and semi-custom rifles where the buyer is comparing against a gunsmith rather than a catalogue.

Who Should Look At Which

If you hunt on foot in steep country and the rifle’s weight is genuinely costing you, the Elite V2 is the answer and the price is what that answer costs.

If you want a light, capable, tripod-ready rifle and $1,899 is the number, the Predator is comfortably the best value in the announcement and the ARCA rail alone justifies a close look.

And if you have wanted to try a straight-pull without buying a European rifle at European prices, the Impulse Ultralite Pro is the least painful route into it.
