Umarex Gauntlet 2 Review (2026): Best Value Regulated PCP

Last updated July 26, 2026 · By Nick Hall. Part of our complete air rifle guide.

When the original Umarex Gauntlet launched, it did something the airgun world had not seen: it put a factory-regulated PCP in shooters’ hands for around $300. The Gauntlet 2 refines the formula with a slicker action and better ergonomics. It remains the value benchmark for regulated PCP performance. Here is the honest verdict.

A Factory Regulator at a Budget Price

The Gauntlet 2’s headline feature is the same as the original: a factory regulator, which meters air at a constant pressure for a long string of near-identical shots. That consistency used to be reserved for rifles costing two or three times as much. Add a large air reservoir for a high shot count, a shrouded barrel that keeps it quiet, and a multi-shot magazine, and you have a serious hunting and target PCP for the price of a nice break-barrel. The Gauntlet 2 improves the bolt feel, trigger, and handling over the original, addressing most of the first gun’s rough edges.

How It Shoots

Regulated consistency is the story on target: the Gauntlet 2 delivers a long, flat shot string, which makes it forgiving and easy to shoot well at distance. It is quiet, accurate, and gives you a lot of shots per fill, which is exactly what you want for a day of pest control or plinking. The trade-offs are the ones you expect at this price: it is a bit heavier and less refined than a premium PCP, and the stock is basic. But for the money, nothing delivers regulated PCP performance more affordably. It is a superb first PCP or a no-fuss workhorse.
