Where to Buy Vintage Firearms

A lot of people coming to this site aren’t looking for the new guns that are the best for self defense. You want the vintage guns, the mint condition M1 Garand and even the fabled Mosin-Nagant.

Then there are the handguns. An original Colt six-shooter is just cool, it is. Old service revolvers, too, have the romance of the battlefield that you can never polish out. They have been places and seen things that we can’t possibly imagine and when we turn to classic firearms, we’re largely connecting to the people that were, simply put, heroes.

That’s why some of the most popular gun searches out there include:

Wild West Six Shooter Sir?

Vintage guns for sale in pawn shops today defined the Wild West, which was effectively always at war. The guns of the time decided wars, drew new lines on maps and changed the course of history. Now, these weapons are unloved and unwanted, so you can give a vintage firearm a home for just a few bucks if you know where to look.

A classic gun can be an art installation as well, the engineering and craftsmanship that went into some of the vintage weapons is unbelievable and you really do have to see it up close to appreciate the work that went into them.

What Are The Best Vintage Gun Stores Online?

If you want to get into vintage guns, then it’s always best to build a relationship with a antique firearms dealer. They will save you money in the long run, and they will get those tricky guns you just cannot find.

But let’s keep it simple for now. If you’re looking for historic guns and you want just one vintage rifle, or an antique revolver.

So where do you buy vintage firearms? Here…

What is the Attraction With Vintage Guns

Well if you’re like me, then you like a bargain, you dig the history and it’s nice to shoot guns that have carved their name into history. You might even have used these guns in Call of Duty and now just want to get a feel for the real thing.

There is also something deeply satisfying about taking an 11lb hunk of wood and metal and hitting targets or game at 600 yards. But it has to be said there is always a modern alternative that does the job for around the same money. A Mossberg Patriot Creedmoor costs less than $300 and that is a more capable rifle.

But vintage firearms are cool, if you get the right ones.

Hunting With Antique Military Rifles

A vintage military surplus rifle can also prove a surprisingly good hunting rifle. Get a solid Mosin-Nagant with the sniper kit and you can take down most game at up to 700 meters. It’s not quite a Creedmoor, there is some drop-off with this old, big bullet. But it’s an amazingly accurate mid-range rifle that made the Russian snipers famous.

In the film Enemy at the Gate, the Russian sniper, in real life, would have used a Mosin-Nagant and a local optic. Read all about this amazing rifle in this in-depth piece.

Where to Buy an M1 Garand?

The M1 Garand was issued to every American soldier from the 1930s onwards. The Mosin-Nagant, and later the AK-47, found their way into the hands of every Russian and the Mauser and Lee Enfield have both been thrust into the hands of new recruits who had no idea what was coming.

These weapons were absolute beaters. They were designed to live in the trenches, to survive freezing cold, brutal heat and just about everything in between. They didn’t need a Cerakote finish, they were just meant to be there.

Hunting With an M1 Garand? Why Not…

That means it’s a faithful hunting rifle that really doesn’t need much maintenance. If you’re going to use it for that, stay away from the collectible guns. Get a cheap, honest, straight gun and keep it forever. Even as a back up, the only thing going against it is the weight from the old-school wood and iron.

Don’t get sucked into a bidding war for vintage guns if you want to use the rifle. Just get a solid weapon, from the right era, and then be prepared to fix her up as you go. She’ll probably never be pretty, but she will work every single time.
