Ruger MkIV Hunter
- Price: $612
- Calibr: 22LR
There’s a running joke on the Reddit forums that every single day there is someone professing an oddball and left-field love for the Ruger MkIV.
Basically, it’s one of those off-center choices that the whole world knows about.
So, it isn’t hipster anymore. You won’t be the only one with a Ruger down the firing range, but it is a spectacularly fun gun to use.
Ruger Is Stripped Down And Sweet
It’s basically a long, 6.8” barrel, a sight and a perfectly weighted wood-trimmed grip. There really aren’t many extras to worry about.
That keeps the weight down and the long barrel means it’s a spectacularly accurate gun.
You can opt for the Lite, polymer-framed version, or the cheaper aluminum finish and frame. But this, right here, is a beautifully engineered gun with a stainless steel frame and finish.
It’s the one we would go for.
It’s a semi-automatic pistol that feeds from a 10-round magazine. You can start with one in the chamber, too, so you get 11 rounds in total between reloads.
Takedown Button Is A Gamechanger
It also comes with simple disassembly, which is a first for Ruger.
This is the one area where the manufacturer took some criticism in the past.
They were a nightmare to strip and reassemble.
Now, a takedown button means it comes apart in seconds and goes together just as easy.
Ruger MkIV Has Ambidextrous Safety
It comes with an ambidextrous safety, but you can also remove the right-side one if it slows you down at the range and pinches.
The lower is now one piece of CNC Machined Stainless Steel, or you can get a cheaper aluminum version.
It’s a low recoil gun, so you can shoot it all day long.
Ruger MkIV Is Simple And Effective
The sights, too, are simple and effective. It’s a bare bones kind of gun, though, and you can swap out the optics for something more advanced.
It’sopen to modification across the board and that’s what tends to happen. You’ll tailor this gun until it feels like an extension of you.
It has fast become a favorite among range shooters and while it wouldn’t be the first gun for home defense, it would certainly sit well as part of a growing collection.
It’s on sale right now, so grab one while you can!
