If you have ever looked at a Glock with dramatic lightening cuts in the slide and a bronze match barrel poking out the front, you were looking at the style ZEV Technologies made famous. ZEV builds custom Glock slides, match barrels and drop-in triggers, its own OZ9 pistol and now the folding FDP. A lot of what you will read about ZEV is out of date, though, because SilencerCo moved to buy the business in 2024. Here is who they are, what they make, and what is worth buying.

Who ZEV is
ZEV Technologies is an American maker of premium Glock slides, barrels and triggers, plus the OZ9 and FDP pistols. Alec Wolf incorporated it in 2005, SilencerCo announced it was buying its business operations in 2024, and its address is now Riverton, Utah.
ZEV started in Oxnard, California, where Alec Wolf, working from home, began making Glock parts for competitive shooters. The company’s own line is that it pioneered “the first drop-in replacement triggers for GLOCK”, and the deep, sculpted slide cuts that look normal today were novel when ZEV started selling them. Shooting Illustrated credits it with pioneering the whole Glock customization trend.
Then came two big changes. In 2017 ZEV bought Mega Arms, a maker of billet AR receivers and rifles, and moved north to Centralia, Washington. In July 2024 SilencerCo announced a deal to acquire “certain business operations” of ZEV, promising renewed focus on the brand as ZEV moved away from OEM work. At the time the headquarters was to stay in Centralia, but ZEV’s own website now lists 12706 Old Liberty Way in Riverton, Utah, in the same state as SilencerCo. So anything calling it a Washington company is behind the times.
On tier, ZEV is firmly premium. A slide runs about $293 stripped and $469 as a complete kit, a match barrel from about $168 and a trigger kit about $100. Together they can cost as much as a second pistol. What you pay for is the machining, the DLC and bronze coatings, and a finished-gun look that value brands do not match.
What ZEV makes
Custom Glock slides
The slides are the headline. The Z17 and Z19 Duty come optic-cut for red dots such as the RMR and 509T, sold stripped or as a complete kit. ZEV has also added slides for the slim-frame G43 and G48 cut for the Shield RMSc, and the Combat HyperComp slide kit is its current compensated option. Slides are generation specific, so check yours.
Match barrels
The Optimized Match and Pro Match barrels come in black DLC or that distinctive bronze, threaded or non-threaded. The Optimized barrels start around $168 in our feed for a G17, and the Pro barrels near $194.
Triggers
This is where ZEV started. The PRO trigger bar kit comes with flat or curved faces and color accents like black and red, at about $100, and the adjustable Fulcrum bar kit is about $132. They replace the shoe and bar to give a cleaner break and more consistent reset.
Frame parts and magazines
Base pads cost $31 in polymer or $49 in aluminum from the maker. Slide parts, frame parts, magazine releases and sights round out the Glock catalog, and ZEV’s site listed 97 Glock parts in October 2026.
Pistols and rifles
The OZ9 is ZEV’s modular pistol, built around a serialized steel chassis inside a grip module, from about $901 in our feed, with a modular build kit at $399 direct. The Core Elite line covers pistols and rifles, and the rifle parts carry on from Mega Arms.
The most interesting new product is the FDP, the Folding Defensive Platform made with Magpul. It is a 9mm folding pistol with a 7.05-inch barrel that takes Glock-pattern magazines and ships with 21-round PMAGs, at $1,699. It started shipping in early 2026, and a threaded barrel is now offered.
SIG parts
Older write-ups list ZEV as a SIG parts maker too. Its current shop menu has no SIG section, and the Octane P320 and P365 slides still in our feed, near $401, look like remaining retail stock. If you want one, I would not wait.
Pros
- Defined the custom Glock look
- Slide, barrel and trigger work together
- OZ9 and FDP are genuinely different
Cons
- Premium prices add up fast
- Aftermarket parts can void Glock cover
- Gen 6 fit is not a given

Build quality and the ZEV idea
The core idea is the complete build: slide, barrel, trigger and small parts designed to work together so the finished pistol runs better and looks the part. The coatings and machining are the reason to pay up. The honest trade-offs are cost and fit. Aftermarket slides and barrels can void Glock’s factory warranty, and a drop-in part can still need attention, so function-test every change. Gen 6 is the trap right now. Glock changed enough on Gen 6 guns that older upgrades do not carry over, so never assume a Gen 5 ZEV part fits. Buy only what is listed for your generation.
How ZEV compares
Against Agency Arms, its closest premium rival in custom Glock slides, the choice comes down to which cut pattern you prefer. Against value makers like Lone Wolf, ZEV costs more but offers better coatings and finish. Against a trigger specialist like Apex Tactical, ZEV’s triggers belong to a broader system, and Apex’s kits suit carry guns very well. Against barrel houses like Faxon and KKM, ZEV competes on finish and looks as much as raw accuracy. And since 2024, it has had SilencerCo behind it, which helps explain the push toward complete guns.
Who should buy what
- Optic-ready Glock builder: a Z17 or Z19 Duty slide for your generation.
- Suppressor or comp user: a threaded Optimized Match barrel.
- Anyone chasing a better Glock pull: the PRO bar kit, or the adjustable Fulcrum.
- Someone who wants it done for them: an OZ9.
- Truck or pack gun shopper: the FDP, if $1,699 does not scare you.
- P320 or P365 owner: look at current SIG specialists, or catch a leftover Octane.
Look elsewhere if you want the cheapest functional upgrade, as a value barrel or trigger will run fine for far less money. If your goal is a custom pistol that performs and looks like one, ZEV is one of the few brands that does both parts and finished guns.
The ZEV philosophy
ZEV’s tagline is “Design, Feel & Performance”, and the order matters. The company says any product it made “had to be the best product of its type”. That is marketing, but it explains why ZEV resonates with shooters building a personal gun rather than chasing the cheapest group on paper. It is engineering with an eye for style.
How to choose your ZEV setup
Decide how far you want to go. A trigger alone is the cheapest meaningful upgrade, and it changes the feel immediately. A match barrel is the next step for accuracy or to set up a suppressor. A slide is the big one: it changes the look, adds an optic cut and pulls a new barrel and internals along with it. Confirm that ZEV lists parts for your exact model and generation, match your optic footprint to the slide cut, and decide between a stripped slide and a complete kit that arrives ready to run.
The slide that started a look
It is easy to forget how plain factory Glocks used to be. ZEV is one of the companies that changed that, turning a utilitarian polymer pistol into a canvas for serious machine work and helping launch a whole custom-Glock industry. Two decades on, the home workshop in California has become a Utah address under a suppressor company’s roof, with a folding 9mm built alongside Magpul. The thing it is best known for is still making other people’s Glocks look and shoot like custom guns.

ZEV FAQ
Who owns ZEV Technologies?
SilencerCo announced in July 2024 that it was acquiring certain business operations of ZEV. Founder Alec Wolf had incorporated the company in 2005, and the deal terms were not disclosed.
Where is ZEV Technologies based?
ZEV's website now lists Riverton, Utah. It started in Oxnard, California, and moved to Centralia, Washington, after buying Mega Arms in 2017, so older write-ups still say Washington.
What is ZEV best known for?
Custom Glock slides with deep lightening cuts, match barrels and drop-in triggers. ZEV says it pioneered the first drop-in replacement triggers for Glock.
Do ZEV parts fit a Gen 6 Glock?
Do not assume so. Glock changed enough on Gen 6 that older upgrades do not carry over. Buy only parts that name your generation on the listing, and confirm with ZEV if the listing does not say.
Does a ZEV slide or barrel void my Glock warranty?
It can. Aftermarket slides and barrels can void Glock's factory warranty, so ask before you swap parts on a gun you may need to send back to Glock.
What is the ZEV FDP?
The Folding Defensive Platform, made with Magpul: a 9mm folding pistol with a 7.05-inch barrel that uses Glock-pattern magazines. It costs $1,699 and began shipping in early 2026.
What is the ZEV OZ9?
It is ZEV's own modular pistol, built around a serialized steel chassis inside a grip module, so it is a ZEV-made gun rather than a modified Glock. It starts near $901 in our feed.
What tier is ZEV?
Premium: high-end machining and coatings with a finished-gun look, priced well above the budget aftermarket, from a $100 trigger kit to a $469 complete slide kit.
