Four ounces is a quarter of a pound. On a rifle that weighs six and a half pounds finished, that is a real percentage, and on a rifle that weighs nine pounds it disappears into the noise.
And that is the honest framing. This is a part for somebody already deep into a weight-obsessed build, not a general upgrade.
Where the Weight Actually Lives

Metal matrix composite in this application does not have that history, and no amount of laboratory testing substitutes for a few thousand rifles being used hard for a few years. The material is well proven in aerospace and in brake components, which is encouraging rather than conclusive.
So if you are an early adopter, be an informed one. The claim is comparable strength to 7075-T6, and the honest position is that the claim is plausible and unverified by time.
Who Should Actually Buy This
Buy it if you are building a mountain rifle you will carry for miles, you have already gone to a lightweight barrel and handguard, and the remaining ounces are worth real money to you.
Skip it if you are building anything else. On a home defence carbine, a range gun or a duty-pattern rifle, the money buys nothing you will notice and the same $630 spent on a barrel, a trigger and a better optic would transform how the rifle actually shoots.
