By Nick Hall, who wrote our IWB vs OWB holster guide.
The best OWB holster for concealed carry is the Black Point Tactical Leather Wing. It puts a slim Kydex shell on wide leather wings that pull the gun tight to your hip, you can order it with a 15 degree forward cant, and it starts at $102. If you want all leather, buy the Galco Combat Master. If you want the gun locked in, buy the Safariland 7378. And if you’re on a budget, the Bravo Concealment BCA does the job for under $40.
Outside-the-waistband carry is more comfortable than IWB and faster to draw from, but it’s harder to hide. Most “best OWB holster” lists mix in duty and competition rigs that you can’t conceal at all. Every holster below was made for concealment. Specs come from each maker, prices from our live check across 200+ retailers on October 26, 2026, and further down I explain the five things that decide whether an OWB gun prints.

1. Black Point Tactical Leather Wing: Best OWB Holster for Concealed Carry
- Build: Kydex shell trimmed to the gun, with leather wings carrying the belt loops
- Cant: Straight or 15 degree forward
- Retention: Tension screw, threadlocker on every screw
- Loops: 1.5, 1.75 or 2 inch, or a 1.75 inch adjustable metal loop
- List price: $102 at Black Point, made in the USA
Pros
- Pulls the gun tight to you
- Kydex retention, leather comfort
- Choice of loop width
Cons
- Pricier than all-Kydex
- Leather needs a few days
- Wide wings take belt space

The Leather Wing fixes the problem with most Kydex OWB holsters, which is that they stand off your body. Black Point trims the Kydex down to the gun and moves the belt loops out onto leather wings, so the belt pulls the holster flat against your hip instead of levering the grip out. On my Glock 19 at 4 o’clock with the 15 degree cant, it hid under an untucked flannel better than any other holster here.
You still get Kydex retention, set with a tension screw, and the shell is open enough to reholster with one hand. Black Point lists more than 30 gun makers, five leather colors and a long list of Kydex colors. It also converts to IWB with optional clips, though I wouldn’t buy it for that.
Best For: Everyday OWB carry under a cover shirt or jacket.

2. Galco Combat Master: Best Leather OWB Holster
- Build: Premium steerhide, double-stitched, hand-molded to the gun
- Design: High-ride pancake with full slide and barrel coverage
- Cant: Butt-forward
- Belts: Up to 1-3/4 inch
- List price: $119 at Galco
Pros
- Pancake slots pull gun close
- Quiet, classic leather
- Lasts for decades
Cons
- Not cut for red dots
- Leather dislikes rain
- Two-handed reholster sometimes

The Combat Master is the leather pancake most people picture when they think “OWB holster,” and it earned that. Belt slots on both sides of the gun pull it tight to your body, the butt-forward cant tucks the grip under your arm, and Galco hand-molds it to each gun. It rides high, so a jacket or untucked shirt covers it.
Galco says plainly that the standard Combat Master isn’t compatible with red dots. If your slide has an optic, buy the Combat Master 2.0, which is cut for one and covered in our best 1911 holsters guide. The card above includes revolver and pistol versions, so pick yours.
Best For: Leather lovers, revolvers and iron-sight pistols.

3. Safariland 7378 7TS ALS: Best OWB Holster With Retention
- Retention: ALS, locks automatically when holstered, thumb release on the draw
- Mounts: Paddle and belt loop both included
- Build: SafariSeven nylon blend, weather and temperature resistant, non-marking
- List price: $97 at Safariland, $119 for some versions
Pros
- Gun locks in automatically
- Paddle and belt loop included
- Will not mar the finish
Cons
- Thickest holster on this list
- Paddle prints under T-shirts
- Release needs practice

Safariland calls the 7378 a concealment holster, and it’s the slimmest locking holster I’ve worn. The ALS latch catches the gun when you holster it, and your thumb releases it as you take your grip. If you carry in crowds, on a bike or anywhere the gun could be grabbed, that matters more than a few millimeters of thickness.
It comes with a paddle and a belt loop. Use the belt loop for concealment, because a paddle sits farther off the belt and prints more. Retailers in our feed had it from $75.99. Practice the thumb release dry before you carry it.
Best For: Anyone who wants active retention without a duty-sized holster.

4. Bravo Concealment BCA: Best Budget and Light-Bearing OWB Holster
- Build: Injection-molded polymer, rounded edges
- Cant: 10 degree forward, 3 o’clock carry
- Retention: Adjustable
- Loops: 1.5 inch, with belt clips sold to convert to IWB
- List price: from $39.99 at Bravo; Glock 19 X300 versions from $27.99 at retailers
Pros
- Cheapest holster on this list
- Light-bearing versions for X300
- Tall sights clear
Cons
- Polymer feels cheaper than Kydex
- Right-hand only on some
- Wide with a light

The BCA is proof you don’t need to spend $100. It’s injection-molded polymer with adjustable retention, a built-in 10 degree forward cant and 1.5 inch belt loops, and Bravo says it clears tall sights up to .355 inch on the Glock 19 X300 model. Bravo also backs it with a 30-day money-back guarantee and a lifetime warranty.
It’s also the cheapest way to carry a pistol with a weapon light outside the waistband. Bravo makes versions for the SureFire X300 on the Glock 19 and 17, and retailers had the Glock 19 X300 BCA from $27.99. A light makes any holster wider, so plan on a jacket. See our best pistol lights if you’re still picking one.
Best For: Tight budgets, and pistols with a weapon light.

5. Concealment Express OWB Paddle: Best Kydex Paddle Holster
- Build: .08 inch Kydex, 4 oz, made in Jacksonville, Florida
- Cant: Adjustable from -5 to +20 degrees
- Retention: Adjustable, with an audible Posi-Click
- Clears: Threaded barrels and suppressor-height sights
- List price: $49.95 for a Glock 19, lifetime warranty
Pros
- On and off without unbuckling
- Clicks when the gun seats
- Adjustable cant
Cons
- Paddle stands off the body
- Prints more than belt loops
- Wants a stiff belt

A paddle holster slides inside your pants and hooks under the belt, so you can take it off in the car or at the office without unthreading anything. The Concealment Express paddle is the one I’d buy. It’s the same precise Kydex shell as the company’s IWB, it clicks when the gun seats, and the cant adjusts from -5 to +20 degrees. Read our Concealment Express review for the full lineup and the return fine print.
The tradeoff is concealment. A paddle puts a layer of plastic between the holster and your belt, so the gun rides a little farther from your body than it does on belt loops. Under a jacket that doesn’t matter. Under a T-shirt it does.
Best For: Carriers who put the gun on and take it off during the day.

6. Alien Gear ShapeShift OWB Paddle: Best Modular OWB Holster
- Build: High-strength polymer, part of the ShapeShift modular system
- Mount: Paddle with a retention lip that hooks inside the waistband
- Expands to: IWB, appendix, shoulder and drop leg with add-on kits
- List price: $69.99 at Alien Gear; OWB slide expansion $47.99
Pros
- One shell, many carry setups
- Paddle locks onto the waistband
- Wide gun list
Cons
- Bulkier than a single-purpose holster
- Add-ons add up
- Plastic look and feel
The ShapeShift OWB Paddle makes sense if you want one holster shell for several carry styles. The shell moves between bases: this paddle, an OWB belt slide, IWB and appendix bases, even shoulder and drop-leg rigs. Alien Gear says the paddle has a retention lip that hooks inside your waistband so it doesn’t pull off with the gun.
It’s $69.99 direct for Glock models, and Palmetto State Armory had a Glock 26 version at $49.88 when I checked. If you already own a ShapeShift shell, the OWB slide base alone is $47.99.
Best For: Carriers who change setups with the season or the outfit.

7. Galco Yaqui Slide: Best Minimalist OWB Holster
- Build: Premium steerhide belt slide
- Retention: Independent adjustable tension screws
- Cant: Neutral, near-vertical
- Fits: Multiple barrel lengths on the same frame size; belts up to 1-3/4 inch
- List price: $119 at Galco
Pros
- Smallest footprint on the belt
- One holster, several barrel lengths
- Fast, vertical draw
Cons
- Muzzle hangs out the bottom
- Neutral cant prints the grip
- Pricey for so little leather
The Yaqui Slide is barely a holster: a loop of steerhide that holds the gun by the slide and leaves the barrel hanging out the bottom. That’s the point. It takes up almost no belt, fits several barrel lengths on the same frame, and the two tension screws let you set the draw exactly. Galco added those screws in 1992 and it’s been a classic since.
The neutral cant means the grip sits straight up, which prints more than a forward-canted holster. It’s best with a long jacket. Palmetto State Armory had the 1911 version at $107.99.
Best For: Jacket carry, and owners of several guns on the same frame.

8. Bianchi Model 7 Shadow II: Best OWB Holster for Revolvers
- Build: Full-grain leather, contour molded and pre-curved
- Design: 3-slot pancake with a reinforced thumb snap and open muzzle
- Carry: Strong side or cross draw, adjustable angle
- Belts: Up to 1.75 inch
- List price: $84 to $85.50 at Bianchi
Pros
- Thumb snap over the hammer
- Three slots set the angle
- Strong side or cross draw
Cons
- Thumb snap slows the draw
- Leather needs break-in
- Pricier than polymer
A revolver’s cylinder makes it wider than a pistol, and a pancake holster is the best way to pull that width in. The Shadow II has three belt slots, so you can set it straight, canted forward or for cross draw, and a reinforced thumb snap holds the gun in. Bianchi says the ultra-high ride hides even full-size pistols.
Palmetto State Armory had a Shadow II for the Smith & Wesson 36 and 60 at $49.69 when I checked, a long way under Bianchi’s own $84.
Best For: J-frame and K-frame revolvers, and anyone who wants a strap.
How to Conceal an OWB Holster: The Five Things That Matter
An OWB gun hides fine on a lot of people. It just needs more things to go right than an IWB gun. These are the five I’d check before blaming the holster:
- Ride height. A high-riding holster keeps the muzzle above the hem of your cover shirt. The Combat Master and Shadow II both ride high for that reason.
- Cant. A forward cant of 10 to 15 degrees tips the grip forward and down into your side. The BCA has 10 degrees built in, the Leather Wing offers 15, and the Concealment Express paddle adjusts. Neutral-cant holsters like the Yaqui Slide print the grip more.
- Belt loops beat paddles. Loops or pancake slots pull the holster against your body. A paddle sits on the outside of your pants and holds the gun a little farther out.
- The belt. A sagging belt lets the grip tip out. Use a real 1.5 inch gun belt. See our best gun belts for concealed carry.
- The cover garment. It has to be long enough to cover the bottom of the holster when you raise your arms. An open jacket, an untucked button-up or a longer T-shirt one size up all work. A tucked shirt doesn’t.
Position matters too. Most people hide an OWB gun best at about 3:30 to 4 o’clock for a right-hander, just behind the hip bone. Farther back, the grip prints when you bend; farther forward, the muzzle digs in when you sit.
Paddle, Belt Loop or Pancake?
| Mount | How it attaches | Concealment | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paddle | Slides inside the waistband, hooks under the belt | Fair. Rides farther from the body | Taking the gun on and off often |
| Belt loops | Belt threads through loops on the holster | Good | Daily carry |
| Pancake | Belt threads through slots on both sides of the gun | Best. Pulls the gun flat to the hip | All-day carry under a jacket |
| Belt slide | A short loop of leather around the slide | Good, but the grip sits upright | Minimal footprint, several barrel lengths |
If you can’t decide, buy belt loops or a pancake. You can always add a paddle later to a modular holster like the ShapeShift or 7378.
Retention: Passive vs Active
Every holster here holds the gun with passive retention, meaning friction or a molded click, and most let you adjust it with a screw. Two add a second step. The Safariland 7378’s ALS latch locks the gun until your thumb releases it, and the Shadow II has a thumb snap. Active retention is worth it if the gun could be grabbed or bumped out, at the cost of a slower draw you have to practice.
One holster you won’t see here is the Blackhawk SERPA. Its release sits where your trigger finger presses during the draw, which is why many training classes ban it. If you want a locking holster, use one that releases with your thumb.
Kydex or Leather for OWB?
OWB is where leather still makes sense. The holster isn’t pressed against sweaty skin, so a leather pancake like the Combat Master is comfortable all day and quiet against a car seat. Kydex holds its shape for one-handed reholstering and shrugs off rain. Hybrids like the Leather Wing get you some of both. Our Kydex vs leather holster guide goes deeper.

How I Picked These OWB Holsters
I started with OWB holsters made for concealment, not duty or competition, that are sold by retailers we track or direct from the maker. I wore the Glock 19 versions at 4 o’clock under an untucked shirt and an open jacket, and checked three things: whether the grip printed when I bent over, whether I could reholster one-handed, and whether the holster shifted on a 1.5 inch gun belt. The Combat Master, Yaqui Slide and Shadow II I judged on 1911 and revolver fits.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best OWB holster for concealed carry?
The Black Point Tactical Leather Wing. Its leather wings pull a slim Kydex shell tight to your hip, it comes with a straight or 15 degree forward cant, and it starts at $102. The Galco Combat Master is the best all-leather option and the Safariland 7378 is the best with active retention.
Can you conceal carry with an OWB holster?
Yes. Use a high-riding holster with a forward cant on a stiff gun belt, carry at about 3:30 to 4 o'clock, and wear a cover garment long enough to hide the bottom of the holster when you raise your arms.
Is a paddle holster good for concealed carry?
It works under a jacket, but a paddle holds the gun a little farther from your body than belt loops or a pancake, so it prints more under a T-shirt. Paddles are best if you put the gun on and take it off during the day.
What cant is best for OWB concealed carry?
A forward cant of about 10 to 15 degrees. It tips the grip forward into your side so it prints less. The Bravo BCA has 10 degrees built in and the Black Point Leather Wing is offered with 15.
Is leather or Kydex better for an OWB holster?
Both work. Leather pancakes like the Galco Combat Master are quiet and comfortable all day. Kydex holds its shape for one-handed reholstering and handles rain. Hybrids like the Leather Wing combine a Kydex shell with leather wings.
What is the best cheap OWB holster?
The Bravo Concealment BCA. It is injection-molded polymer with adjustable retention and a 10 degree forward cant, Bravo sells it from $39.99, and retailers had the Glock 19 X300 version from $27.99 on October 26, 2026.
Do I need a special belt for OWB carry?
Yes. A stiff 1.5 inch gun belt keeps the holster from sagging and the grip from tipping out. Most holsters here fit belts up to 1.75 inch.
Which OWB holster is best for a revolver?
The Bianchi Model 7 Shadow II. It is a full-grain leather 3-slot pancake with a thumb snap, made for strong-side or cross-draw carry, and Bianchi lists it at $84 to $85.50.
