Most gun discount programs are gated by one of three identity checks: ID.me, GovX or VerifyPass. Get verified on all three and you unlock nearly every program worth having. The biggest single number belongs to Smith & Wesson at up to $150 back on qualifying firearms and suppressors. The one everybody talks about, Glock Blue Label, is worth about $50 to $63. And at least one famous program, Academy’s, is not running at all right now.
How we tested: Every pick here is ranked against our testing methodology. Minimum round counts, accuracy and reliability protocols, the failures that disqualify a gun. Where we have not shot a specific variant ourselves, we say so in that section.
The Three ID Checks That Gate Everything
Before any of the individual programs matter, understand the plumbing. Almost nobody verifies your service record themselves. They outsource it to one of three companies, and which one a brand uses decides how you sign up.
ID.me handles Guns.com and the Primary Arms Heroes Program. You link your store account to ID.me once, and from then on the discount applies on its own. Primary Arms states there are no codes to remember: once your status is verified, prices on qualified products already reflect your price when you are logged in. Guns.com works at the cart instead, where you click a verify button and a coupon lands on the order automatically.
GovX handles Smith & Wesson’s rebate and runs its own storefront on top of that. GovX describes its audience as current and former military, first responders and law enforcement.
VerifyPass is the third and least known. Daniel Defense uses it for the MILE Program, and if you only set up ID.me and GovX this is the one that will stop you at the checkout.
Set up all three accounts before you start shopping. They are free, the verification is a one time job, and doing it at checkout on a gun you want is how people end up paying full price because the paperwork was not ready.
What Each Program Is Worth
Everyone lists these programs. Almost nobody says what they actually save you, which is the only thing that decides whether the paperwork is worth doing. Here is what we could confirm from each company’s own pages on 5 September 2026.

Two things jump out of that table. The rebate beats the famous program by a wide margin, and the program most articles put at the top of the list is currently switched off.
Smith & Wesson: The Biggest Number Here
Smith & Wesson’s own rebate page states that military, law enforcement and first responders receive up to $150 rebate on qualifying firearm and suppressor purchases. That is the largest confirmed figure of any program on this page, and it is a rebate rather than a counter discount, so it arrives after the purchase.
Read the qualifying part carefully. The rebate amount is set per SKU in the terms and conditions, not applied as a flat $150 to anything with a Smith & Wesson roll mark. Check your exact model against the list before you buy, because the difference between the top rebate and a smaller one is larger than most of the other programs on this page are worth in total. Eligibility is broad, and wider than most brands. It runs to sworn law enforcement at state, county and local level, retired officers with retired credentials including federal, local law enforcement academy cadets with enrollment documentation, first responders including firefighters and rescue personnel, military including National Guard whether active, retired, active reserve or disabled in any capacity, and honorably discharged veterans with a DD214.
The mechanics run through GovX. You create a free GovX account, verify, then go to swrebates.com/AG, log in through GovX and copy your unique identifier to start the rebate.
SIG SAUER Off-Duty Program
SIG runs the most detailed eligibility list of any manufacturer we checked, and it is the only one that covers the whole product range rather than just guns. Through SIG’s law enforcement and military dealers the program covers firearms, suppressors, ammunition and electro-optics. At participating Off-Duty dealers it covers firearms only.
Qualifying groups, from SIG’s own Off-Duty Program page, each needing an approved purchaser ID:
- Active-Duty Military with Active-Duty identification
- Retired Military with retired military credentials
- Honorably Discharged Veterans, requiring a DD214 or a veteran designation on a state-issued ID
- Active Reservists with military identification
- Active National Guard with military identification
- Sworn Law Enforcement Officers, including federal, state and county
- Retired Law Enforcement Officers with retired credentials
- Active or retired law enforcement with official agency credentials
- Full-time first responders with current credentials or official documentation
Note the veteran requirement. A DD214 or a veteran designation on your driver’s license is the document that matters, and it is worth requesting the state ID designation once rather than carrying a DD214 around. SIG does not publish a percentage, because pricing runs through the dealer. A SIG P320 starts at $442.80 and a P365 at $399.99 in our feed, so that is the number the program has to beat.
Glock Blue Label and the GSSF Back Door
Blue Label is the program with the biggest reputation and the smallest confirmed saving. We measured it against our own in-stock prices: a Blue Label Glock 48 MOS at $398.09 was $49.91 below the $448.00 street price, and a Blue Label Glock 26 at $476.00 was $63.00 below the $539.00 street price. That is real money, and it is roughly half the $75 to $100 quoted almost everywhere else.

Primary Arms Heroes Program
Primary Arms describes the Heroes Program as exclusive discounts for military, veterans and first responders, running across thousands of products and top brands. Verification is through ID.me, linked to your Primary Arms account once.
Two details are worth knowing. There are no codes: once you are verified, qualified products show your price while you are logged in, so you can compare before you commit. And verified members get access to law enforcement and military exclusive products that are not otherwise sold. Primary Arms states the benefit is not transferable and is for personal use only, not resale and not purchases on behalf of others.
Guns.com and Brownells
Guns.com runs a military and first responder discount verified through ID.me. Click verify at the cart, log in or create the account, and a coupon is applied automatically.
Its eligibility is the widest of anything here on the military side. Guns.com covers any branch of the United States military across active and reserve duty service members, retirees, veterans, military spouses and military family members or dependents. Most programs stop at the service member. This one does not, which makes it the first place to check if the person buying is the spouse rather than the serving member.
Brownells states exclusive discounts for military, veterans, first responders and law enforcement. Be careful not to confuse the program with the sitewide promotional codes Brownells runs constantly, which are open to everybody and sometimes beat the member price on their own.
Daniel Defense MILE Program
MILE stands for military and law enforcement, and Daniel Defense runs the widest occupational list of any manufacturer here. Its own page offers MILE pricing to eligible military, veterans, law enforcement, firefighters and EMT professionals buying for personal use. Firefighters and EMTs named explicitly is not something every brand does.
The catch is the verification. Daniel Defense uses VerifyPass rather than ID.me or GovX, so being verified everywhere else does not carry over. Daniel Defense also publishes a separate list of stocking dealers who offer individual military and law enforcement discounts on its rifles, which is a different route from the direct program.
Ruger: Departments Yes, Individuals No
Ruger is on plenty of military discount lists and it does not belong there. Its law enforcement page is a purchasing channel for departments and agencies, not a discount for the person. Department purchases and bids go to the Ruger law enforcement distributor covering your state, short-barreled rifle orders have to arrive on department letterhead with a tax exempt certificate, and everything is subject to ATF approval.
There is no individual off-duty discount published anywhere on it. Ruger armorer training is open to military and law enforcement armorers working on Ruger firearms for their department, which is genuinely useful, but it is training rather than money off a gun.
The One That Is Switched Off
Academy Sports is on almost every list of gun discount programs. Its own page currently states that it is not running the Military and First Responder’s discount, and describes it as a seasonal discount rather than a standing one.
That matters because a seasonal program is worth watching rather than planning around. When it does run, Academy extends it to active duty members and veterans from all five branches plus the Reserves and National Guard, and to all active first responders. Check it in November and around the summer holidays instead of assuming it is there.
Where There Is No Program At All
Palmetto State Armory is the biggest name in budget guns and it does not run a military or first responder discount. When we checked their navigation on 29 August 2026 there was nothing, and their military discount URL returned a page that no longer exists.
Springfield Armory is the same story. There is no military or first responder program in its navigation and no such page among the 119 URLs in its own sitemap, so there is nothing to sign up for.
This is worth saying plainly because several roundups list PSA as having one. PSA’s answer to discounting is different: daily deals, a clearance section and a rebate filter, all open to everyone. If you qualify for a service discount elsewhere, compare it against the PSA price rather than assuming the discount wins.
The Paperwork To Have Ready
Across every program on this page, the documents that come up again and again are short:
- DD214 for honorably discharged veterans, or the veteran designation on your state-issued ID, which several programs accept instead
- Active-duty, reserve or National Guard military ID
- Retired military credentials for retirees
- Agency credentials for sworn and retired law enforcement, with retired officers needing credentials that say retired
- Current department credentials or official documentation for full-time first responders
- Academy enrollment documentation for law enforcement cadets, which Smith & Wesson accepts
Get the state ID veteran designation if your state offers it. It replaces a folded DD214 in your glovebox and SIG accepts it explicitly.
Live Prices to Measure a Discount Against
A discount only means something against the real street price. These are the current cheapest listings we track for the two guns most often bought through the manufacturer programs above.
GovX Is a Store, Not Just a Checkpoint
GovX turns up twice in this guide and the two roles are easy to confuse. It is the verification service Smith & Wesson uses to check you qualify for their rebate. It is also a storefront in its own right, describing itself as exclusive discounts for current and former military, first responders and law enforcement.
So creating the account is not only rebate admin. Once it exists you can price the same gun on GovX and against the open market before deciding. Treat it as one more retailer to compare rather than a special channel that automatically wins, because that is how it behaves in practice.
When the Discount Is Not the Best Price
This is the part the programs never mention. A service discount is applied to whatever that seller is asking, and sellers do not ask the same price. Our own feed shows the spread: a Glock 17 Gen 5 was $479.99 at the cheapest shop we track and $530.99 at Guns.com on the same day. A discount off the higher number can still land above the lower one.
Three habits stop that happening. Price the gun on the open market first, so you know what you are comparing against. Check whether the retailer program you are verified for is the retailer that was cheapest to begin with. And remember Brownells runs sitewide promotional codes open to everybody that sometimes beat member pricing, so the member price is not automatically the floor.

Is It Worth The Paperwork?
If you qualify, yes, but be honest about the size of it. One Smith & Wesson rebate can be worth more than a year of every other program combined. Blue Label is worth about $50 to $63 on a gun you were buying anyway. The retailer programs are worth having permanently because once ID.me is linked the discount applies without you doing anything.
The order that costs the least effort: verify with ID.me and GovX once, buy through whichever store is cheapest before the discount, then check whether a manufacturer rebate stacks on top. A service discount applied to a higher base price is a worse deal than a sale price with no discount, and that trade comes up more often than the programs admit.
