Bear Creek Bear Bolt Pro: A Bolt-Action AR-10 for $674.99

Last updated October 2026 · By Nick Hall, who tracks budget AR-10 builds and .308 rifles for USA Gun Shop readers

Quick take: Bear Creek Arsenal has launched the Bear Bolt Pro, a .308 AR-10 with a bolt you work by hand between shots. The complete rifle is $674.99 and the upper on its own is $399.99, and both went on sale October 27, 2026.

  • What it is: An AR-10 pattern .308 rifle and matching complete upper built around a one-piece bolt with a 70-degree lift that you cycle manually.
  • Price: BCA lists the complete rifle at $674.99 and the complete upper assembly at $399.99.
  • Where: Bear Creek Arsenal sells online only, and both Bear Bolt Pro models showed as in stock on its site on October 28, 2026.
  • Why it matters: The $399.99 upper turns an AR-10 lower into a bolt gun, although BCA only guarantees fit on its own lowers.

A bolt-action AR-10 sounds like a punchline. Why take a rifle built to load itself and make it load by hand? Bear Creek thinks the answer is a shorter bolt lift, a bolt that comes out without tools and a firing-pin cover, all at a price low enough that plenty of people will buy one out of plain curiosity.

What Bear Creek Built Into the Bear Bolt Pro

Bear Creek Arsenal, which builds its rifles in Sanford, North Carolina, put the Bear Bolt Pro series on its site on October 27, 2026. Launch day brought two products: the BC-10 .308 Bear Bolt Pro 2-Lug Rifle (SKU CR2L-3550-308MSC18110MFL-15ASR) and the matching 2-Lug Upper Assembly (SKU UA2L-3550-308MSC18110M-15ASR).

BCA pitches it as “a return to the traditional architecture of early gunsmithing now in an AR configuration.” In plain terms, this is an AR-10 that does not cycle itself. You lift the bolt, run it, and close it for every shot, and BCA files the charging style under “Bolt Action Style” on both product pages.

It launches in .308 Winchester only. Bear Creek’s launch announcement says more calibers in AR-10 and AR-15 are “arriving soon”, and it has not named them.

The 70-Degree Bolt Lift Is the Whole Pitch

BCA notes that a 90-degree bolt lift is common on bolt-action rifles, and the Bear Bolt Pro launch page says BCA has “shortened and smoothed out the process with a 70-degree lift.” Its own summary is three words long. “Faster and smoother.”

The bolt itself is one piece. BCA is upfront about the naming, writing that “The 2 lug name is ironic considering that the Bear bolt series relies on a single piece bolt for smoother and faster cycling.” The bolt also comes out of the upper receiver without tools, which makes cleaning a lot less of a chore.

The safety feature is the part I like most. BCA fits an out-of-battery safety that covers the firing pin whenever the bolt is not in battery, and the company states it flatly: “The rifle cannot fire unless the bolt is fully closed and locked.”

But both product pages still read “Be the first to review this product,” so faster and smoother is Bear Creek’s claim for now. The first few thousand rounds from buyers will decide whether it holds.

Rifle and Upper on the Bear Bolt Pro Spec Sheet

The Bear Bolt Pro rifle runs an 18-inch black nitride barrel in a SOCOM profile with a 1:10 twist, under a 15-inch M-LOK split rail. It sits on a forged lower with a billet upper receiver, and BCA lists it at 8.2 pounds. No magazine comes in the box.

The Bear Bolt Pro upper assembly carries the same barrel, twist and 15-inch rail at 6.2 pounds. BCA lists the BCG and charging handle as included, so it is a complete upper that needs only a lower to run.

One spec to think about. BCA’s FAQ says its lowers use standard mil-spec triggers with a 7 to 8 pound pull, and that is heavy for a rifle whose whole reason for existing is slow, deliberate shooting.

If you already own a semi-auto AR-10, the upper is the more interesting buy, since a trigger upgrade on your existing lower carries straight over.

The Fine Print on Fit and Magazines

AR-10s never settled on one standard the way AR-15s did, and BCA says so. Its knowledge base states “Our uppers are made based on the DPMS Gen1 Low Profile model.”

The same answer adds that “we cannot guarantee the fitment of our uppers to any other companies lower other than our own.” A DPMS-pattern lower from another maker is the obvious candidate, but the only combination BCA stands behind is its own upper on its own lower.

Magazines are the other thing to sort before you order. The rifle ships without one, so budget for a .308 magazine that suits your lower.

Who the Bear Bolt Pro Is For

Bear Creek already sells a “Bolt Action Style” line for both the AR-15 and the AR-10, and the Pro series sits beside it rather than replacing it. On October 28, 2026, BCA listed its older 18-inch Parkerized SOCOM Bolt Action Style rifle at $505.95, marked down from $709.99, which puts the Pro about $169 higher for the nitride barrel, split rail and new bolt.

That price is right in line with what BCA has built its name on, as our Bear Creek Arsenal review covers. If you want a cheap .308 that forces you to slow down, read the wind and make the first round count, this is a fun way to do it. If you want a precision bolt gun for long-range matches, you will spend more and get a purpose-built action with a better trigger.

Check the rules where you live before ordering. BCA’s own compliance note says “It is the responsibility of the consumer to ensure all state, local, federal, and ITAR regulations are followed,” and our US gun laws by state directory is the place to start.

A .308 AR that makes you work for every shot. Some people will hate that. A lot of people are going to want to try it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Bear Creek Arsenal Bear Bolt Pro?

It is a line of AR-10 pattern rifles and complete uppers with a manually operated bolt. The first two products are the BC-10 .308 Bear Bolt Pro 2-Lug Rifle and the matching 2-Lug Upper Assembly, both with an 18-inch black nitride SOCOM barrel and a 15-inch M-LOK split rail.

How much does the Bear Bolt Pro cost?

Bear Creek Arsenal lists the complete rifle at $674.99 and the complete upper assembly at $399.99, sold direct from its website.

Is the Bear Bolt Pro semi-automatic?

No. You cycle the bolt by hand for every shot. BCA lists the charging style as "Bolt Action Style", and the bolt uses a 70-degree lift instead of the 90-degree lift found on traditional bolt-action rifles.

What calibers does the Bear Bolt Pro come in?

It launched in .308 Winchester. Bear Creek says more calibers in AR-10 and AR-15 are "arriving soon" but has not named them.

Will the Bear Bolt Pro upper fit my AR-10 lower?

BCA builds its AR-10 uppers on the DPMS Gen1 Low Profile pattern. It does not guarantee fitment on any lower other than its own, so check your lower's pattern before you buy.

Does the Bear Bolt Pro rifle come with a magazine?

No. The rifle ships without a magazine, so you will need to buy a .308 magazine that suits the lower.

What is the out-of-battery safety on the Bear Bolt Pro?

It is a feature that covers the firing pin whenever the bolt is not in battery. BCA says the rifle cannot fire unless the bolt is fully closed and locked.
