Quick Take

Girsan builds 1911s in Giresun, Turkey, imports them through EAA, and sells an all steel Government model for less than most people spend on a polymer striker gun. The Untouchable is the entry point: forged steel frame and slide, ambidextrous thumb safety, flared magwell, hexagonal textured grips and an accessory rail, at $429.99 from Palmetto State Armory.

Five hundred rounds later it had earned the money. It choked twice on old hollow points in the first hundred and never did it again, which is the classic 1911 break-in story. Accuracy is the honest weak spot: 3.4 inches at 25 yards with the load it liked, which is fine for a defensive pistol and nowhere near what a Springfield or a Dan Wesson will do.

The buying detail nobody prints: EAA charges the same $479 for every frame size. Government, Commander and Officer all list identically, and only the two-tone finish adds $30. You are not paying for barrel length here, so buy the size you actually want to carry.

Best For: Anyone who wants a real steel 1911 without spending four figures, and who already owns or will buy spare magazines. Not for shooters who need tight groups out of the box.

The Frame Size Is Free

Pull EAA’s own configurator apart and the Untouchable MC1911 comes in eleven variations across three frame sizes and two calibers. Every single one lists at $479 in blue/black. The two-tone silver guns list at $509. That is the entire price structure.

SKUFrameCaliberBarrelCapacityStreet
392065Officer (SC)9mm3.4 in.7$429.99
392050Officer (SC).45 ACP3.4 in.6$429.99
392070Commander (C).45 ACP4.4 in.8$429.99
392075Commander (C)9mm4.4 in.9$431.99
392061Government (S)9mm5 in.9$431.99
392060Government (S).45 ACP5 in.8$449.99

Retail bends that flat structure slightly. The full size .45, the one most people picture when they say 1911, is the only configuration that costs more on the shelf, at $449.99 against $429.99 for everything else. Twenty dollars, for the most popular version. Everywhere else the choice is free.

Two things do change with frame size, and neither is price. The accessory rail is on the Government and Commander frames only, so the Officer gun has a plain dust cover. And the .45 Officer holds six rounds against seven in the 9mm, which is the usual cost of a fat cartridge in a short grip. If you want the rail and the ammunition capacity, the Commander is the sweet spot.

Government, 5 in., .45 ACP, 8+1 $450-$487

Commander, 4.4 in., 9mm, 9+1 $432-$440

Officer, 3.4 in., 9mm, 7+1 $400-$440

Two-tone silver, any frame $466-$509

Above the Untouchable, Girsan’s own ladder climbs fast: the Influencer at $622, the C in 10mm at $709, the S Hunter at $759, the Liberador at $839, the Match Elite at $873 and the Gold Lux at $1,329. All the same basic gun with better metal finishing and sights. For a wider look at this end of the market, our cheap 1911 pistols under $500 guide ranks the field.

How We Tested It

Phase 1: Break-In and Trigger

Out of the box the trigger broke at 5 pounds 2 ounces with a little take-up and a clean enough break. It is a plain steel trigger, not a skeletonized competition unit, and it feels like what it is. The ambidextrous thumb safety clicked positively from the first day and the grip safety never failed to disengage.

Fit is the giveaway at this price. The slide to frame fit is snug with no rattle, but run a finger inside the magazine well and you will find tool marks. Everything you touch is finished; everything you do not is merely functional.

Phase 2: Reliability

We put 500 rounds through the full size .45 across four range trips, in 50 to 80 degree weather, mostly 230 grain ball with two hundred rounds of hollow point mixed in.

The malfunction log is short and it all happened early. Two failures to feed inside the first hundred rounds, both with old 185 grain hollow points from a box that has given other 1911s trouble. Nothing after round 100, including 200 rounds of fresh Federal HST and Speer Gold Dot. That is a normal 1911 break-in, and it is worth knowing before you judge the gun on its first magazine.

One practical gripe that has nothing to do with reliability: the gun ships with one magazine. A 1911 with a single mag is a range session of constant reloading, so budget for two or three more before you even leave the shop.

Phase 3: Accuracy

Five, five shot groups per load from a bench at 25 yards. These are honest numbers for a $430 pistol with fixed 3-dot sights, and they are the weakest part of the gun.

LoadBest groupAverage
Federal 230 gr. HST2.6 in.3.4 in.
Speer 230 gr. Gold Dot2.9 in.3.6 in.
Blazer Brass 230 gr. FMJ3.2 in.3.9 in.
Remington 185 gr. JHP3.5 in.4.1 in.

For context, Girsan’s own Match line starts at $710.99 and the Match Elite lists at $873. The Elite shoots around 3.2 inches average at the same distance with premium defensive ammunition, so the expensive gun in this family is not buying you a different class of accuracy. It is buying you hard chrome, a better trigger and better sights.

Ammunition Log

  • Blazer Brass 230 gr. FMJ: 250 rounds, accuracy and function
  • Federal 230 gr. HST: 100 rounds, accuracy
  • Speer 230 gr. Gold Dot: 100 rounds, accuracy
  • Remington 185 gr. JHP, older stock: 50 rounds, both stoppages

What This Means for You

  • Reliability: Shoot 100 rounds of ball before you trust it, which is true of every 1911 at any price.
  • Ammo preference: It liked 230 grain. Light hollow points were the loosest and caused the only stoppages.
  • Accuracy expectation: Plan on 3 to 4 inches at 25 yards, which is minute of chest at any defensive distance.
  • Budget: Add $80 to $120 for spare magazines. The gun comes with one.

Performance Results

Reliability (8/10)

Four hundred consecutive rounds without a stoppage, after a two malfunction break-in, is a good result at this price. It loses points because both failures came from hollow points, which is exactly the ammunition you would carry.

Accuracy (6/10)

Three and a half inches at 25 yards is adequate and no better. The fixed 3-dot sights are the limiting factor as much as the barrel fit, and there is no easy upgrade path because the dovetails are Girsan’s own.

Ergonomics and Recoil (8/10)

Thirty eight ounces of steel turns .45 ACP into a push rather than a snap, and the hexagonal grip panels hold on without shredding your palm. The flared magwell does its job on reloads. Shooters used to a polymer carry gun will notice the weight within a magazine, for better and worse.

Fit, Finish, and Quality Control (7/10)

No rattle, even slide to frame contact, clean rollmarks. The finish on our black gun was even, and the two-tone guns look better than the price suggests. Inside, the machining is functional rather than pretty.

Technical Deep Dive

Series 70 Internals, With One Modern Change

Girsan builds the Untouchable on Series 70 internals, which means no firing pin block and the trigger pull John Browning intended. The one concession to modern drop safety is a lightened firing pin, the same approach Colt uses, so inertia cannot drive it into a primer if the gun lands on its muzzle.

That choice matters when you shop. A Series 80 or an internal safety system adds parts to the trigger linkage, and cheap versions of those systems are where gritty budget 1911 triggers come from. This one is simple inside.

Who Girsan Actually Is

Girsan was founded in 1993 in Giresun, on Turkey’s Black Sea coast. Its first pistol was the Yavuz 16, a Beretta 92 pattern gun that passed Turkish military trials and won police contracts. That matters because the company is not a rebadger: it has been making its own service pistols for thirty years, and the 1911 line is built in the same plant.

How It Compares

Tisas 1911A1 Classic ($300-$415)

The other Turkish 1911, and the cheaper one. A Tisas 1911A1 Government starts at $299.99 from Guns.com, which undercuts the Girsan by $130. What you give up is the ambidextrous safety, the rail and the flared magwell: the Tisas Classic is a faithful GI gun, the Girsan is a modernized one. Our Tisas 1911 Duty DS review covers their double stack if that is the direction you are going.

Rock Island Armory M1911 ($370-$550)

The Filipino standard, and the one that undercuts the Girsan: a GI Standard in .45 starts at $369.99 from Sportsman’s Warehouse, $60 below the Untouchable. Rock Island has deeper parts and aftermarket support in the US and a longer track record here. What it does not give you at that price is the ambidextrous safety, the rail or the flared magwell.

Verdict: At $429.99 the Untouchable gives you more 1911 features than anything else at the price. Buy the Tisas to spend less, the Taurus for the warranty, and the Girsan if you want the ambi safety, the rail and your pick of three frame sizes at one price.

Upgrades Worth Making

Upgrade CategoryRecommended ComponentWhy It MattersPriority

Ammunition230 grain ball for break-in100 rounds before you carry itSecond
HolsterA kydex holster cut for a railed 1911The rail changes the holster fit on S and C gunsThird

Leave the sights alone unless you are prepared for gunsmithing. The dovetails are not guaranteed to match Novak or Bomar patterns, and a $60 sight that needs $120 of fitting stops making sense on a $430 pistol. Our best .45 ACP ammo guide is the better place to spend the money.

Common Problems and Fixes

  • Failures to feed in the first hundred rounds: Normal 1911 break-in, and worse with light or old hollow points. Run 100 rounds of 230 grain ball, then retest your carry load.
  • Only one magazine in the box: Buy spares before your first range trip. Any quality 1911 magazine in the right caliber will do.
  • Stiff thumb safety when new: The ambi lever is tight for the first few hundred cycles. Work it deliberately rather than forcing it.
  • Tool marks inside the magazine well: Cosmetic, and normal at this price. They do not affect feeding.

Who Should NOT Buy This Gun

  • The bullseye shooter: Three and a half inches at 25 yards will frustrate you. A Springfield Ronin or a Dan Wesson shoots far tighter.
  • Anyone who wants a light on an Officer: The subcompact frame has no rail. Buy the Commander instead.
  • The shooter who will not break a gun in: If your first hundred rounds have to be flawless, buy a Taurus 1911 with its lifetime warranty.
  • Weight sensitive carriers: 38.4 ounces of steel on your belt all day is a commitment. A polymer carry gun weighs half that.
  • Anyone counting on cheap sight upgrades: The dovetails are Girsan’s own, so budget for a gunsmith or leave the sights alone.

Final Verdict

The Girsan Untouchable MC1911 is the most 1911 you can buy for $429.99. Forged steel frame and slide, ambidextrous thumb safety, flared magwell, accessory rail and hexagonal grips are a feature list that reads like a gun costing twice as much, and after a two stoppage break-in ours ran 400 rounds clean.

It is not a target pistol and EAA is not pretending otherwise. Groups ran 3.4 to 4.1 inches at 25 yards, the sights are fixed and awkward to replace, and the single magazine in the box is a cheap shot at the price tag. Buy it as a steel 1911 you can afford to shoot, pick whichever frame size suits you because they all cost the same, and spend the savings on magazines.

Final Score: 7.9/10. The cheapest honest way into an all steel 1911 with modern features.

FAQ: Girsan MC1911

Is the Girsan MC1911 any good?

For the money, yes. Ours ran 400 consecutive rounds without a stoppage after two early failures to feed with old hollow points. It is an all steel 1911 with an ambidextrous safety, a flared magazine well and an accessory rail for $429.99, which is a feature list that normally costs a lot more.

How accurate is the Girsan MC1911?

Ours averaged 3.4 inches at 25 yards with Federal 230 grain HST and 4.1 inches with the worst load, shooting five, five shot groups per load from a bench. That is adequate for defensive use and well short of a target 1911.

How much does a Girsan MC1911 cost?

EAA lists the Untouchable at $479 in blue/black and $509 in two-tone silver, the same price for every frame size. Trusted retailers sell it from $429.99, with the full size .45 the one configuration that costs more, at $449.99.

What is the difference between the MC1911 S, C and SC?

Frame size. The S is the 5 inch Government, the C is the 4.4 inch Commander and the SC is the 3.4 inch Officer. The S and C have an accessory rail and the SC does not, and the .45 Officer holds six rounds against seven in 9mm.

Where are Girsan pistols made?

In Giresun, Turkey. Girsan was founded in 1993, and its first pistol, the Beretta 92 pattern Yavuz 16, passed Turkish military trials. EAA Corp imports the guns into the United States.

How many magazines come with a Girsan MC1911?

One. That is the single biggest annoyance with the gun, so budget for two or three spare 1911 magazines before your first range trip.
