Russia is building a ‘space gun’ that can intercept and, to give it the technical term, blow the shit out of stuff in the atmosphere.
Its main purpose will be to deal with space debris, which could theoretically include the asteroid star of so many bad disaster movies. But this gun could be forced to deal with more serious shit one day, if films like Independence Day have taught us anything.
There’s that slight human arrrogance that thinks we can take on species that somehow cross galaxies and solar systems to find us. But we’re getting there ourselves. If Elon Musk can survive his cash crisis and get us to Mars, then we’ll be doing pretty damned well.
And if Russia can blow the shit out of stuff, we can too. It shouldn’t be too hard to replicate this once the technology is out there.
So, support Russia’s war effort. Buy a modern day AK-47, a Draco Gun or even a Mosin Nagant to celebrate this epic piece of new tech.
“The scientists intend to use the massive soon-to-be-built telescope at the Altay Optical-Laser Center and convert it into a laser cannon,” a Russian report read. “The device is expected to be powered by a solid-state generator, though the project team has yet to choose which model to use.”
Of course, we’re giving Russia the benefit of the doubt on this one. If it wants to turn this into a Weapon of Mass Destruction, it’s kind of got us by the nuts. Suddenly Trump’s Space Force idea doesn’t look so dumb…
“My new national strategy for space recognizes that space is a warfighting domain, just like the land, air and sea,” Trump said during a speech at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in March. “We may even have a Space Force, develop another one, Space Force. We have the Air Force, we’ll have the Space Force. We have the Army, the Navy.”
“So think of that, Space Force,” Trump continued. “Because we are spending a lot and we have a lot of private money coming in, tremendous. You saw what happened the other day, and tremendous success. From the very beginning, many of our astronauts have been soldiers and Airmen, Coast Guard men and Marines. And our service members will be vital to ensuring America continues to lead the way into the stars.”
The President said later: “We are actually thinking of a sixth [branch], and that would be the Space Force. We are getting very big in space, both militarily and for other reasons, and we are seriously thinking of the Space Force.”
Don’t expect these guns to turn up alongside the other cheap guns for sale online that we specialise in finding, but still it’s kind of cool in its own messed-up, hyper destructive way.
