Quick Take

The SilencerCo Omega 36M is the suppressor people buy when they own a 5.56 rifle, a .30 caliber rifle and something in 9mm, and they don’t want three cans. It’s one welded tube with a bore big enough for a 9mm bullet, a front section you can unscrew to make it shorter, and a rear end that takes four different mounts. SilencerCo rates it from 5.7×28 up to .338 Lapua Magnum.

I ran one for 900 rounds across five range sessions on three hosts: a 16 in. 5.56 AR-15, a 20 in. .308 bolt gun and a 16.12 in. 9mm carbine. It never missed a beat on the rifles. Groups on the bolt gun didn’t open up, the point of impact moved the same amount every time, and the quick-detach mount came back to zero. The one thing that went wrong was a direct thread mount that walked loose on the 9mm carbine, and that was on me.

Two things you won’t find on the box. First, the price is fixed: on October 8, 2026, seven dealers we track had it at $993.65 to the cent, exactly 15% under SilencerCo’s $1,169 list, and one dealer was far below that. Second, SilencerCo’s own documents give two different lengths, weights and magnum barrel minimums for this can. Is it still the one-can answer? For most people with a mixed safe, yes.

Best For: Shooters who want one suppressor to move between an AR-15, a .308 or magnum bolt gun and a 9mm carbine or pistol. Not for anyone who only shoots one rifle, wants the lightest hunting can, or needs a .45 caliber bore.

The $993.65 Wall, and the One Dealer Under It

Shopping for an Omega 36M takes about a minute, because almost nobody discounts it. SilencerCo lists it at $1,169. On October 8, 2026, our card started at $993.65 at Brownells, and GrabAGun, Kentucky Gun Co, Sportsman’s Outdoor Superstore, Classic Firearms, Firearms Depot and BattleHawk Armory all showed the same $993.65. Do the math and that’s 85% of list, to the cent.

The rows above that line were close to it: $999.99 at two stores, $1,020.49 at Ammunition Depot and $1,039 at MidwayUSA. That’s what a minimum advertised price looks like from the outside. The Hybrid 46M, which shares the $1,169 list price, sat at $993.65 at Brownells and five other dealers the same day.

So is there any real discount? One. Bereli listed the same SU4735 at $670 when we checked, in stock, with the $1,169 list price printed beside it. That’s $323.65 under everyone else. Bereli isn’t one of the stores that can lead our price cards, so the card headline stays at $993.65, but the row is in the list. A consignment unit also turned up at Guns.com for $813.99.

The other number that changed is the tax. The federal transfer tax on a suppressor has been $0 since January 1, 2026, so the $200 that used to ride on top of every can is gone. Our suppressor cost breakdown has the rest of the bill, and there’s more on the paperwork further down this page.

SilencerCo’s Spec Sheets Don’t Agree With Each Other

I pulled four SilencerCo documents for this review: the product page, the 2026 catalog, the downloadable spec sheet and the field manual, which covers the Omega 36M and Hybrid 46M together and carries a 2021 copyright. The first three match. The manual doesn’t, and dealers are still quoting it.

SpecProduct page, 2026 catalog, spec sheetField manual (2021)

Weight9.8 to 12.5 oz9.2 to 16.5 oz

Smallest cartridge named5.7×28 and 5.56 NATO22 Hornet
.300 Win Mag minimum barrel20 in.18 in.
.338 Lapua minimum barrel18 in.18 in.

None of the documents says which mount is fitted for the length and weight figures, so I can’t tell you why they differ. I can tell you how to read a listing. When Kentucky Gun Co titles its row “Omega 36M 7.6 in.” and Firearms Depot writes “5.1 to 7.65 in. length,” they’re using the manual’s numbers. When SilencerCo’s own page says 6.85 in., that’s the current sheet.

The barrel line is the one that matters. If you own an 18 in. .300 Win Mag, the manual says you’re fine and the product page says you’re 2 in. short. I’d go by the current page, and I’d email SilencerCo before putting this can on a short magnum.

Sound numbers have the same problem. SilencerCo’s spec sheet gives one reading per cartridge and names the host: 129.5 dB for 5.56 NATO on a 16 in. AR, 126.6 dB for .300 BLK on an 8.5 in. AR, 129.9 dB for .308 Win on a 20 in. bolt gun, 135.4 dB for .300 Win Mag on a 24 in. bolt gun, 137 dB for .338 Lapua on a 26 in. bolt gun and 122 dB for 9mm on an 8 in. PCC. It doesn’t name the ammunition or say which length was tested. The product page lists a second set under “Muzzle Average” with no host at all, and every figure differs: for .308 it says 136.9 dB against the sheet’s 129.9. Both are SilencerCo’s claims on SilencerCo’s guns. I didn’t meter this can, and I won’t hand you a decibel number of mine.

Design Intent: Why SilencerCo Built It This Way

The manual calls the Omega 36M “SilencerCo’s first modular rifle silencer” and describes it as “two configurations in one.” Most people who buy one suppressor end up wanting it on a second gun, and then a third. So SilencerCo built a rifle can with a 9mm bore instead of a .30 caliber bore, gave it a removable front section, and made the back end accept a quick-detach rifle mount, a plain threaded mount, a pistol piston or a 3-lug subgun mount.

The name fits. SilencerCo’s own accessory list files a 9mm flash hider as “.36 Cal / 9mm,” and this is the modular can in the Omega line. A bore that big lets a 9mm bullet through, and a 350 Legend bullet, while the front cap closes the hole back down for smaller calibers.

The Omega 36M is a compromise on purpose. SilencerCo’s chart for it puts the trade plainly: long for “Best Sound Performance,” short for “Best Weight & Length.” If you want the background on why length and volume matter, our guide to how suppressors work covers it.

Omega 36M Configurations and the SilencerCo Cans Beside It

There’s one Omega 36M, SKU SU4735. The “variants” are the two lengths you build from it, and the four SilencerCo rifle cans you might be choosing between. List prices and specs here are from SilencerCo’s product pages on October 8, 2026.

Omega 36M, long (SU4735): front section on, 6.85 in., 12.5 oz, 5.7x28 to .338 Lapua Magnum, full-auto rated $1,169 list

Omega 36M, short (same SU4735): front section removed, 4.9 in., 9.8 oz, full-auto rated $1,169 list

Hybrid 46M (SU5107): modular, 5.78 to 7.72 in., 12.2 to 14.9 oz, 9mm to .45 ACP and 5.56 NATO to .45-70 Govt $1,169 list

Omega 300 DT (SU5400): 6.98 in., 12.6 oz, 5.56 NATO to .300 Win Mag, ships with a 5/8x24 direct thread mount $699 list

Scythe STM (SU5421): modular 17-4 stainless, 5.1 or 6.9 in., 10.4 or 15.7 oz, .223 Rem to .300 RUM, no barrel length restrictions $939 list

Scythe Ti (SU5328): all titanium, 6.16 in., 7.3 oz, .223 Rem to .300 RUM, not rated for full-auto fire $1,174 list

SilencerCo Hybrid 46M (from $993.65)

This is the Omega 36M’s big-bore twin. Same list price, same Charlie mounts, same modular idea, and it’s covered in the same manual. The difference is the hole down the middle. The Hybrid 46M takes pistol calibers up to .45 ACP and rifle rounds up to .45-70 Govt, and SilencerCo’s page rates it as far as .460 Weatherby Magnum. You pay for that in weight: 12.2 to 14.9 oz against 9.8 to 12.5 oz, and it’s about an inch longer in either length.

SilencerCo Omega 300 (from $798.15)

SilencerCo calls the Omega 300 “the most-sold suppressor, ever,” and it’s the plain .30 caliber answer: one length, 5.56 NATO to .300 Win Mag, full-auto rated. The current version on SilencerCo’s site is the Omega 300 DT at $699 list, which ships with a 5/8×24 direct thread mount and a .30 caliber Anchor Brake. Dealer rows titled plain “Omega 300” run higher, and our card started at $798.15 at Brownells for one of those.

Competitor Comparison

Three cans from other makers come up every time someone prices an Omega 36M. Each beats it somewhere, and none takes a 9mm bullet. Specs are from each maker’s own product page; prices are what our cards showed on October 8, 2026.

Dead Air Nomad 30 (from $899.99)

Dead Air lists the Nomad 30 at $949, 6.5 in. long, 1.735 in. across and 14.5 oz, in fully welded 17-4 PH stainless, rated up to .300 Norma Mag. That’s a fatter, heavier tube than the long Omega by both makers’ numbers. It’s a .30 caliber bore, so no 9mm, and Dead Air lists it in one length.

What you get is price and simplicity. Our card started at $899.99 at Palmetto State Armory, with other dealers lower. For a deer rifle and an AR, it’s the cheaper way in.

Rugged Radiant762 (from $1,044)

The Radiant762 is the closest thing to a .30 caliber Omega 36M. Rugged lists it at $1,370, modular, 7.5 in. and 12.5 oz in the standard setup or 5.1 in. and 9.4 oz short, with a Cobalt 6 core in a Grade 5 titanium tube. It’s rated for centerfire rifles up to .300 RUM, full-auto, with no barrel length restrictions, and it ships with a 5/8×24 brake. Rugged’s warranty is unconditional and lifetime.

Two real wins there: no barrel minimums, and a muzzle device in the box. Our Radiant762 card started at $1,044 at Palmetto State Armory, about $50 over the Omega.

HUXWRX FLOW 762 Ti (from $1,185)

HUXWRX builds the FLOW 762 Ti around what it calls Flow-Through technology, and says gases “are deflected forward through the suppressor and away from the shooter.” It’s 3D-printed Grade 5 titanium, 6.7 in. long, 1.8 in. across and 11.8 oz, full-auto rated, and HUXWRX says it works on 5.56, 6.5 and 7.62 platforms with no barrel restrictions. The $1,624 list price is for a kit with one QD muzzle brake.

If you shoot a gas gun a lot and hate gas in your face, this is the one to look at. It’s a rifle can only. Our card started at $1,185 at Palmetto State Armory. HUXWRX also just launched a modular 9mm can, which we covered in our FLOW 9 M write-up.

Verdict: The Nomad 30 is cheaper, the Radiant762 has no barrel limits, and the FLOW 762 Ti is kinder to a gas gun. The Omega 36M is the only one of the four that also goes on a 9mm carbine or pistol. If that isn’t on your list, one of the other three probably fits you better. Our best suppressors roundup covers the rimfire and pistol picks.

Testing Protocol

We shot the Omega 36M for 900 rounds over five sessions in August and September, in temperatures from 62°F to 94°F. Three hosts, all with barrels at or over SilencerCo’s minimums: a Smith & Wesson M&P15 Sport III with a 16 in. 5.56 barrel, a Ruger American Rifle Gen II in .308 with a 20 in. barrel threaded 5/8×24, and a Ruger PC Carbine in 9mm with a 16.12 in. barrel threaded 1/2×28. Every round was jacketed factory ammunition. We didn’t test full-auto fire, and we wore ear protection for every shot.

Phase 1: Setup

Nothing in the box threads onto a barrel. The can ships with the Charlie ASR Mount, and that mount locks onto a SilencerCo ASR muzzle device you buy separately. So I installed an ASR flash hider on the AR and an ASR muzzle brake on the Ruger in place of its factory brake, by the manual: shims to time the brake, no crush washer, a drop of Rocksett, and 20 to 30 ft-lb.

For the 9mm carbine I swapped the back of the can to a Charlie Direct Thread Mount in 1/2×28, a five-minute job with both spanner tools. I also bought .223 and .30 caliber front caps, because the can comes with the 9mm cap only.

Phase 2: Function and Reliability

The AR ran all 420 rounds without a stoppage, 240 with the can long and 180 short. Unsuppressed, the Sport III threw cases to about 3:30. With the can on long they landed closer to 2 o’clock, which says the bolt was moving faster, and I got a steady puff of gas at the charging handle. Short, ejection moved back toward 3 o’clock and the gas was easier to live with.

The bolt gun was uneventful. The first shot from a cold can was a touch louder than the ones after it. On the PC Carbine, the 147 gr load was the pleasant surprise. From behind the gun the action cycling was the loudest part. The 115 gr load had a sharp crack to it that the heavier bullet didn’t.

The malfunction log is short. Around round 60 on the carbine, the can had backed off the barrel by about an eighth of a turn. SilencerCo’s manual says to check the attachment “after 30 discharges of the firearm,” and I hadn’t. I snugged it, checked every 30 rounds after that, and it didn’t move again. Nothing touched a baffle. The ASR mount never loosened on either rifle.

Phase 3: Accuracy and Point of Impact

All accuracy work was five-shot groups from a front rest and rear bag. On the Ruger at 100 yards, Federal Gold Medal 168 gr averaged 0.92 in. bare and 0.84 in. with the can on in the long setup, five groups each. The can didn’t hurt the rifle. Point of impact moved 1.1 in. low and 0.4 in. right with the suppressor mounted, and it moved there every time. We saw the same habit on other 5/8×24 bolt guns: our CVA Cascade and Christensen Arms Evoke reviews each include a session with a direct-thread .30 caliber can, and both rifles shifted a little over an inch low and stayed there.

To check the ASR mount, I took the can off and put it back on five times, firing a three-shot group after each. Every group landed within 0.4 in. of the first one. On the AR, XM193 averaged 2.1 in. bare and 2.0 in. suppressed, with the impact 1.6 in. low in the long setup and 0.9 in. low short. The 9mm carbine put the 147 gr load into 1.8 in. at 50 yards.

Tracking & Observations

After 900 rounds the bore of the can was gray with carbon and the baffle edges I could see from the front were sharp and unmarked. The finish picked up shiny rub marks at the spanner slots and where the front cap tool seats. The ASR collar got stiff once, after a 150-round AR session where I left the can on while it cooled. A gloved hand and a firm twist broke it free.

Heat is real. After a 60-round string of 5.56 the can was too hot to touch for a good fifteen minutes, and the AR’s bolt carrier was far dirtier than the same round count leaves it unsuppressed.

What This Means for You

  • Upgrade Impact: Budget for a muzzle device per rifle and a front cap per bore size.
  • Reliability: 900 rounds, no stoppages, no damage. One mount came loose because I skipped the 30-round check.
  • Ammo Preference: Jacketed bullets only. In 9mm, 147 gr was much nicer to shoot than 115 gr.
  • Maintenance: Clean the mounts and the muzzle device, not the inside. Expect to clean your AR more often.
  • Accuracy Expectation: No loss in group size, and a shift of an inch or two at 100 yards that repeats.

Performance Testing Results

Reliability (9/10)

Three hosts, two lengths, 900 rounds, and the suppressor itself did nothing wrong. No baffle marks, no loose front cap. The point I took off is for the direct thread mount walking loose on the carbine. The manual tells you how to prevent it, but a threaded mount with no lock is the weakest link in the system.

Accuracy (9/10)

A suppressor can only hurt accuracy or leave it alone. This one left it alone. Match .308 held under an inch with the can on, the shift was the same every time, and the ASR mount returned to zero inside 0.4 in. over five remounts.

Handling (7/10)

Short, on the AR, I stopped noticing it after a magazine. Long, on a sporter-weight .308, the rifle got muzzle heavy and I felt it offhand. The manual’s top figure is 16.5 oz, and if that’s the can with a mount on it, you’re hanging a full pound on the end of your barrel. For a rifle you carry up a mountain, look at the 7.3 oz Scythe Ti. The parts bill is the other drag: the extras for our three hosts came to $475 at SilencerCo’s list prices.

Fit, Finish, and Quality Control (8/10)

Threads were clean, the front section spun off and on smoothly with the tool, and the welds are even. The black finish wears wherever a tool touches it. It’s cosmetic.

The front baffle section unscrews with the included Charlie tools, using slots cut into the body. Take it off and the same front cap threads onto the shorter body. The manual is firm on one point: “The front cap must be used and secured tightly with a tool in either length.” Both lengths are full-auto rated.

The Charlie Mount System

Charlie is SilencerCo’s name for the thread pattern at the back of this can, shared with the Hybrid 46M and the Velos LBP series. Four things screw into it.

MountWhat SilencerCo Says It’s ForWhat You Need to Know
Charlie ASR Mount (AC622)“Fast, most universal way to swap rifle hosts”Included. Needs an ASR brake or flash hider on each rifle
Charlie Direct Thread MountRifles and fixed barrel firearms; shorter than the ASREight thread pitches, from 1/2×28 to M18x1.5. Hand tighten to about 10 to 15 ft-lb
Charlie Piston Mount (AC4751)“For virtually all handguns”Needs a piston, sold separately. Pistol calibers and subsonic .300 BLK only
3-Lug MountPistol caliber carbines and .300 BLK subguns with non-moving barrelsScrews into the piston mount with the spring removed. 9mm parts only on the 36M

The mount bodies and the coupler ring torque to about 20 to 30 ft-lb with the two spanners. The ASR system adds a locking collar with a padlock icon, and SilencerCo’s ASR brakes are the same ones on our AR-15 muzzle device list.

The pistol side has a hard limit. The manual warns that the piston mount “should only be used on pistol caliber firearms and 300 BLK using subsonic ammo,” because rifle pressure can damage the housing. It also says a .45 caliber bullet won’t fit down the bore of the 36M, so it’s 9mm or smaller.

The Charlie Piston Mount

This is the part that turns the Omega 36M into a handgun can. SilencerCo lists it at $139 and says it’s for the Omega 36M and Hybrid 46M only. You still need a piston in your barrel’s thread pitch on top of it.

Front Caps

SilencerCo sells Charlie caps in .223, .30 and 9mm, plus flash hider caps in .223 and .30, and its page says: “Using correct front caps will reduce dB levels between 2 to 5 dB on a suppressor.” The Omega 36M ships with the 9mm cap, so on a 5.56 or a .308 you’re leaving some of that on the table until you buy the matching one.

Ratings and Barrel Restrictions

The barrel minimums are in the spec list at the top of this page. SilencerCo’s Scythe STM and Velos LBP have none at all, so check your barrel against the list before you order.

What about .22 LR? SilencerCo’s caliber list starts at 5.7×28 and doesn’t mention rimfire. This is a fully welded can you can’t open, the manual says to avoid “ammunition with unjacketed lead bullets,” and the product page adds that lead projectiles aren’t recommended in any of its sealed suppressors. Buy a rimfire can you can take apart for your .22s.

Materials and Maintenance

Maintenance is light. The manual compares it to a car muffler and says cleaning the internal volume and baffles “is not necessary.” What you do clean is the mounts and mounting surfaces, with solvent and a brush. Don’t push patches through the bore of the can; the manual warns they can lodge inside and cause damage on the next shot. If you run the piston, its O-ring is a Viton size 018, part AC88, and it wants white lithium grease.

Buying One in 2026: Tax, Paperwork and the Texas Case

A suppressor is still a National Firearms Act item. Here’s where things stood on October 8, 2026.

The tax is $0. ATF’s May 2026 final rule says the One Big Beautiful Bill Act cut the making and transfer taxes to $0 on January 1, 2026 for NFA firearms other than machine guns and destructive devices. The same rule says “all other regulatory provisions of the NFA application and registration process remain in full force and effect.” For most buyers that means the Omega 36M still transfers on an approved ATF Form 4 through a dealer licensed for NFA sales, and it stays at the dealer until the approval comes back. Our guide on how to buy a suppressor walks through the steps, the $0 tax stamp explainer covers what changed, and we track suppressor wait times separately.

There’s also a court case with this maker’s name on it. Silencerco Weapons Research, LLC is a plaintiff in Silencer Shop Foundation v. ATF in the Northern District of Texas, according to the case docket. In a September 24, 2026 letter, the Solicitor General wrote that the court issued a permanent injunction against enforcing the challenged NFA provisions against “the plaintiffs and, where applicable, the plaintiffs’ agencies, political subdivisions, members, and customers,” and that the Justice Department “has determined not to file an appeal.”

That is a narrow order, and how far it reaches was still being argued when we published. Our report on DOJ not appealing the Texas NFA ruling covers who it does and doesn’t cover. Unless your dealer can tell you exactly which part of that judgment covers your purchase, plan on the Form 4. And none of it changes state law, so check our suppressor laws by state page before you order. This is general information, not legal advice.

Common Problems & Solutions

  • Can works loose on a direct thread mount: It happened to me at round 60. Tighten to the manual’s 10 to 15 ft-lb and check it every 30 rounds. Costs nothing.
  • Can spins but won’t come off the barrel: The coupler ring isn’t tight enough. Re-tighten it to the body with the two spanners, about 20 to 30 ft-lb, then unscrew the can.
  • ASR collar stuck after a long session: Carbon. Take the can off while it’s still warm, with heat-resistant gloves, and brush the muzzle device before the next trip.
  • Muzzle brake won’t time: Use the shim kit that comes with the ASR brake. SilencerCo says crush washers “do not crush uniformly” and can cause mounting problems and damage.
  • More gas and a dirtier AR: Normal with a conventional baffle can. Running the short setup helped on ours. An adjustable gas block is the lasting fix.

Who Should NOT Buy This Gun Suppressor

The Omega 36M earns its price by going on a lot of different guns. If that’s not how you’ll use it, you’re paying for mounts you’ll never fit.

  • One-rifle hunters: You don’t need a 9mm bore or a short mode on a deer rifle. The SilencerCo Omega 300 DT lists for $470 less, and the Scythe Ti weighs 7.3 oz.
  • Owners of .45 caliber guns: A .45 bullet won’t fit this bore. The SilencerCo Hybrid 46M costs the same and takes .45 ACP through .45-70.
  • Short-barreled magnum shooters: SilencerCo wants 20 in. of barrel for .300 Win Mag. The Rugged Radiant762 has no barrel length restrictions.
  • High-volume AR shooters who hate gas: A baffle can pushes gas back at you. The HUXWRX FLOW 762 Ti is built to send it forward.
  • Rimfire shooters: It’s sealed and SilencerCo says no unjacketed lead. SilencerCo’s own rimfire cans are the Sparrow 22 and the Switchback 22.

Final Verdict

The SilencerCo Omega 36M did what it’s sold to do. I moved one can between a 5.56 AR, a .308 bolt gun and a 9mm carbine, shot 900 rounds, and the only fault in the log was a mount I didn’t check. Groups held, the zero came back, and both lengths ran.

What you need going in is the real bill and the real specs. The can is $993.65 almost everywhere, and the parts to use it on three guns were another $475 at SilencerCo’s list prices: two muzzle devices, a direct thread mount and two front caps. Go by the current product page on barrel limits. Get those two things straight and this is still the easiest suppressor to recommend to someone with a rifle, a carbine and a handgun to quiet.

Final Score: 8.3/10. One can that really does cover three guns, at a fixed price, with a parts list you should cost out first.

FAQ: SilencerCo Omega 36M

What calibers is the SilencerCo Omega 36M rated for?

SilencerCo rates it from 5.7x28 to 9mm on the pistol side and from 5.56 NATO to .338 Lapua Magnum on the rifle side, plus 350 Legend. A .45 caliber bullet will not fit its bore, and SilencerCo says not to use unjacketed lead bullets.

How much does the SilencerCo Omega 36M cost?

SilencerCo lists it at $1,169. On October 8, 2026, our price card started at $993.65 at Brownells, and several other dealers showed the same price. The federal transfer tax on a suppressor has been $0 since January 1, 2026.

How long and heavy is the Omega 36M?

SilencerCo's current product page and spec sheet list 4.9 to 6.85 inches and 9.8 to 12.5 ounces, depending on whether the front section is fitted. Its 2021 field manual lists 5.1 to 7.6 inches and 9.2 to 16.5 ounces. The diameter is 1.57 inches in both.

Does the Omega 36M have barrel length restrictions?

Yes. SilencerCo's product page rates it down to 10 inch barrels for 5.56 NATO, 16 inch for .308 Winchester, 20 inch for .300 Win Mag and 18 inch for .338 Lapua Magnum. The older field manual says 18 inches for .300 Win Mag, so confirm with SilencerCo if your rifle is close.

Can you use the Omega 36M on a pistol?

Yes, with the Charlie Piston Mount and a piston in your barrel's thread pitch, both sold separately. SilencerCo's manual says the piston mount should only be used on pistol caliber firearms and on 300 BLK with subsonic ammo.

Do I still need a Form 4 to buy an Omega 36M?

For most buyers, yes. ATF's May 2026 rule says the tax is $0 but the rest of the NFA application and registration process remains in full force and effect. A Texas court order covers the plaintiffs in one case and certain members and customers, and its reach was still being argued in October 2026. State suppressor laws also apply.
