The Navy SEALs added the Glock 19 to its standard issue armory last year, which effectively brought an end to the Sig Mk25’s role as the handgun of choice for the best fighting force in the world.

It’s a real coup for the Austrian firm, as it’s effectively an endorsement that money just cannot buy.

When the Navy SEALs take your weapons into combat, they’re as good as it gets.

That’s a simple fact.

The Glock 9mm is tailor-made for combat hotzones. It’s simple, lightweight, small and it will have been torture tested before the Navy gave it the green light.

The Gen 5 Is A Better Deal

Now the sharp-eyed among you will have picked up on the grip. This is a Gen 4 gun and we’re about to feature the Gen 5. So apart from a small saving, why would you buy this one?

Honestly, we’re struggling for reasons and we’d honestly pay more for the latest version.

It’s not a particularly exciting gun to look at, but it’s solid and should go forever. Form has given way to function here and that’s no bad thing.

You get 15 rounds, which is impressive for a relatively compact handgun. Of course if it’s a home defense weapon than you can get the 33-round magazine and we’d honestly think about it.

And while the military won’t worry too much about the unit cost, it’s comforting to know that you can buy military-grade hardware for less than $600.

Glock 19 In The Movies

This gun is a relatively standard issue 9mm, which means it has appeared hundreds of times on the silver screen. It simply won’t have stood out.

The heroes, Jamie Foxx and Channing Tatum are rocking a Glock 19 in White House Down and they’re  a hit in MARVELS Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and The Walking Dead.

But  the Navy SEALs are cooler than any of these.

The Technical Bits Of The Glock 19

A polymer frame and a col-forged 4 inch barrel give the Glock a distinct look, but it’s really a strightforward gun to look at.

You get a big trigger guard, a simple mechanism that should never fail and 15 chances to hit the target.

It’s accurate, recoil is minimal and it has been endorsed by the greatest fighting force in the  world.  So that will do me.
