The Guns of John Wick 2
John Wick was a dark, fantastic film that struck a chord with all of us. You do not fuck with a man’s dog, especially when that man was the most feared Russian hitman in the business, and the trail of wreckage and revenge that followed that one simple act is a cinematic masterpiece.
The second film is another orgy of destruction, as John Wick is forced back into the fray by an old promise, a marker, that means he has to do one last hit. When he tries to refuse, his house gets blown to bits. So he does the job, then goes on a mission of his own to exact revenge.
John Wick Chapter 3 Parabellum is on the way and we have already seen screengrabs of him on horseback, shooting motorcycle assassins. As you do…
Check out the official trailer for the new film too. John Wick Chapter 3 Parabellum looks absolutely epic.
So, it’s time for a look back on the classic firearms movies of modern times: John Wick Chapter 2. The guns are an integral part of the John Wick films, together with the hollowpoint laden, martial arts-inspired action sequences. We will try and go back for John Wick Chapter 1. when the dust settles on John Wick Chapter 3 Parabellum.
One of the finest moments of the film for gun nuts is when Mr Wick visits the Sommelier in the supremely weird The Continental hotel for a ‘tasting’. He is presented with an arsenal of weapons that he will put to devastating use in the catacombs. He also gets the bulletproof suits and the keys to the secret tunnels.
It was also an exercise in product placement for Taran Tactical, which is the official weapons supplier to John Wick. You seriously can’t buy that kind of publicity. Well, we guess you can, but it was an awesome deal.
This is one of the coolest product placement deals we’ve seen and we love it that a small company has managed to build a relationship with a Hollywood juggernaut like this.
This might be the best of their tactical innovations to date and a history of training Hollywood legends like James Cameron paid off for Taran Butler with a loose deal to take Hollywood’s firearms training and expertise to a whole new level.
Reeves was one of his first students and that relationship has now blossomed into an unofficial sponsorship deal with The Boogeyman.
Reeves is an accomplished Three-Gunner now, which shines through inn the film. He also gets to make pretty good use of the Combat Master and the other weaponry thanks to his real-world skills.
The shootout scene in the catacombs remains one of the best firearms sequences we have seen in recent times and we have full respect for Reeves’ obvious weapons handling skills.
Here are the signature guns from John Wick 2 and where you can buy them.
1. Taran Tactical Glock 34 John Wick Combat Master Package
- Price: $2,150
- Barrel Length: 5.31”
- Caliber: 9mm
- Capacity: 20+1
The Taran Tactical Innovations Glock 34 John Wick Master Package is one of the best custom Glocks in the world and it’s a gun that a hitman would be proud to carry. At its core, it’s a Gen 3 Glock 34, but it has been seriously modified.
Don’t think TTI is just a movie gun maker. The craftsmanship on the John Wick package is breathtaking and it turns a solid competition shooter into a total winner. You get the added capacity, the slidework reduces felt recoil to almost nothing and the Combat Master is an ergonomic masterpiece.
The only real problem with custom Glocks is there is serious competition, as you can see on our list of the best custom Glocks in the world.
The TTI Combat Master package goes again the ZEV Dragonfly G34 and that is a tough fight. If you’re target shooting and using it for competition, the ZEV wins. If you’re a pro hitman, the TTI is better.
John Wick is a HK man, but even he is won over by the straightforward simplicity, the custom porting and the large capacity of the tactical Glock G34.
It’s a $2000+ gun and, again, it’s a Gen 3. But it’s a beast of gun and it pretty much cures every ill with the basic Glock. It’s more tactile thanks to that stippling, you get more rounds with the mag extension and John Wick shows just what this gun is capable of as The Boogeyman goes to war.
You don’t need the full works, of course. You can order a number of TTI parts, from the fiber optic sights through to the magazine base plates, and the most popular are the sub-$40 extended magazine baseplates that give you up to 5 more rounds in a Glock 19.
Have a look at some of the Taran Tactical Innovations parts you can buy with pocket change here:
It isn’t the most impressive gun in John Wick, but it is probably his signature gun and the answer to the question: What gun does John Wick use in John Wick 2?
This has been a fantastic deal for TTI and it even has some pretty cool Youtube videos of the company training Keanu Reeves with the weapons, so this is a relationship that could well be ongoing.
Taran Butler, a World Champion, was brought in to work with Reeves, who took his shit seriously. That’s what has given him the weapons handling skills of a Russian secret service assassin turned underworld enforcer.
We will say this gun is a match for the Agency Arms of this world, too, although it’s a real close call between this and the ZEV Dragonfly. That is a better all-rounder if we’re honest, and it’s cheaper.
But the Taran Tactical Glock 34 is John Wick’s gun. That counts for something round these parts. This is, in its own way, even cooler than the Walther link to James Bond. How can you get an endorsement from the world’s best hitman any other way?
On a marketing level, this was a stroke of genius from Taran Tactical Innovations. However they made it happen, props to them.
2. Taran Tactical TR-1 Ultralight AR-15
- Price: $1,999
- Caliber: 5.56 NATO
- Capacity: 30+1
- Barrel Length: 14.5”
- Total Length: 33.5
- Weight: 6.4lb
Be honest, you didn’t know it was a Taran Tactical Innovations AR-15 that the Sommelier suggests is ‘robust and precise’, did you? Well it is.
John Wick Chapter 2 gets the little details right and this is the one that goes slightly awry, as we’re pretty sure that is the 14.5” barrel, not the 11.5” barrel that our good friend the Sommelier, played by Peter Serafinowicz, offers up for Mr Wick’s approval.
I don’t think he ever did get a stamp, do the SBR paperwork and wait six months. But with all the other felonies, this one really doesn’t warrant a mention.
This weapon is fitted with a BCM compensator and a 1-6×24 Trijicon Accupoint scope with an RMR and Magpul PMAGs. It’s a devastating set-up as the ultimate hitman John Wick’s AR-15.
He cuts through the enemy forces with this weapon. It’s a brutal and mesmerizing part of the film that is well worth another watch. This is Keanu Reeves on top form as the mafia hitman who just wants to take his dog and go home.
John Wick’s AR-15 is top of the line, which is what you would expect from The Continental hotel’s finest collection. Just imagine that armory for a moment, supplying the world’s elite underground hitmen with tools of the trade. Wild…
The Taran Tactical Innovations TR-1 is about as good as it gets, which is what you’d kind of expect from an elite underworld hitman.
3. John Wick Benelli M4 Tactical Shotgun
- Price: $3,349.99
- Barrel Length: 18.5”
- Total Length: 40”
- Weight: 7.8lb
- Capacity: 5+1
Something big, bold, for the end of the night, is the way John Wick describes his shotgun of choice to the Sommelier at The Continental, who doesn’t need asking twice. He reaches straight for the Navy SEAL’s tactical shotgun of choice: the Benelli M4.
It’s a super reliable shotgun that’s a devastating weapon in the right hands. There really isn’t any doubt that John Wick’s hands count. He once killed three men in a restaurant with a pencil, a fucking pencil, after all…
The Benelli M4 is the shotgun that pretty much every elite fighting force takes into action and there’s a subtle mod that might make you smile when you realise where it comes from. The Sommelier mentions the oversized charging handle and, well, it’s another Taran Tactical part. In fact, Wick’s gun has the full Taran Tactical package.
The charging handle really is an ingenious addition for competitive shooters and Wick uses the fast reload technique to devastating effect. We never hear about John Wick’s training, but can only assume he was Russian special forces in a previous life. He’s just impossible to kill and he wields the Benelli M4 tactical shotgun with deadly force.
Sharp eyes will have noticed the shell clipped right by the charging handle, I wondered if it was a clever hitman grip, but no, it’s a special clip.
You can also see the textured grips that the Sommelier points out to Mr Wick. You can even go further and get your shotgun stippled like this:
It’s arguably the best tactical shotgun on the market right now. John Wick likes a custom gun, so I would love to see him wield a Mossberg 590M with a magazine next time around. But that’s maybe just my personal fetish for mag-fed shotguns.
If you already own a Benelli M4 and just want some of the clever Taran Tactical Innovations aftermarket parts, then you can get them here:
4. Sig Sauer SG 551/552
- Price: $8,000
- Caliber: 5.56 NATO
- Capacity: 30+1
- Barrel Length: 14.3″
- Total Length: 33
- Weight: 7.5lb
Good luck getting hold of any variant of the SG 550 for anything like sane money. M
They crop up on Gunbroker, if you’re really serious about owning one.
The Sig Sub Machine Gun appears in the hands of Ares’ henchmen as they ambush Wick in the tunnels and later in the mirror room.
It went into active service with the Swiss military in 1990 and it’s a full auto rifle sending 5.56x45mm cartridges downstream at an alarming rate. 700 rounds per minute is the actual rate of fire, if you could get a 700-round mag in there, of course…
That was enough to win service contracts everywhere from Argentina to Romania. This is a serious gun that the world’s law enforcement officers and military took to their heart.
More than 600,000 were produced from 1986 and some variants are still in use to this day.
The closest you can get for sensible money is the Sig 556 Classic. Rifle, which does look kind of badass in SWAT configuration. Even they aren’t the easiest to come by, so really we’re saluting a super cool movie gun and nothing more.
The simple truth is these are Hollywood bad guys and this big budget follow-up had the pick of the props department. You don’t and there are all kinds of semi-automatic, civilian SMGs I would buy before going on a hunt for the elusive Sig Sauer machine gun for sale.
5. Kimber Warrior
- Price: $1,392
- Caliber: 45 ACP
- Capacity: 7+1
- Barrel Length: 5”
- Total Length: 8.7”
- Weight: 2.5lb
John Wick gave Laurence Fishburne’s odd Lord of the homeless character a sporting chance back in the day. He slashed the Bowery King’s artery and then gave him the option to reach for his gun and die, or keep the pressure on the wound and live.
Laurence Fishburne remembered this moment when Wick offered him his back and the chance to kill him or live. So the Bowery King decides to give Wick a similar sporting chance.
Instead of collecting the $7 million
Wick takes push-check game to a whole new level with that gun. Reeves did a lot of firearms and knife fighting training for these films and it shows, Wick is a badass. The way he handles some of the firearms has to be seen to be believed. John Wick is basically the underworld’s Jason Bourne.
He takes that Kimber Warrior and wreaks absolute fucking havoc. He trades it in for a Glock or three along the way, together with a few other 1911s.
The Kimber Warrior is built for combat, according to the website. It’s a 5-inch barrel and an 8.7-inch gun. So it isn’t the best concealed carry. It is a centerpiece of a firearm, though, a dress gun for Sunday.
It’s a traditional 1911 with 45 ACP ammo. Kimber do a great line in 1911s, don’t just confine yourself to the Warrior line. Check out the best Kimber 1911s for sale here:
Where To Buy a Kimber 1911
The Kimber 1911 Warrior is out there is various forms and we particularly like the Kimber Desert Warrior. Here are the best places to buy Kimber guns online, we think…
- Euro Optic – Awesome selection of Kimber handguns.
- Brownells – Selection of Kimber 1911 firearms at discount prices.
- Kimber firearms on sale at Guns.com
6. Taran Tactical Innovation Glock 26 Combat Carry Package
- Price: $2,000
- Caliber: 9mm
- Capacity: 11+1
- Barrel Length: 3.42”
- Total Length: 6.30”
- Weight: 1.22lb
Wick’s back-up is the venerable Glock G26, one of the best concealed carry guns in the world since its launch in 1996. Taran Tactical gave this miniature 9mm a complete overhaul with a custom slide and some other goodies.
Taran Tactical has turned its hand to the G43 now and will sell you a $2,400 CCW with a custom look and a lot of bespoke work. Is it worth it? That’s down to you.
There’s not much doubt the Bogeyman needed his back-up weapon and it tipped the odds in his favor during the fight with Cassian. It also looks the business, but it’s hella expensive for a gun this small. You can get the additional capacity from a cheap baseplate.
You don’t need to go for the stippling and slide work if money is an issue. Keanu Reeves’ character used to charge handsomely for his work, though, and money was rarely a problem.
7. Colt M4 Carbine
- Price: $1,390
- Capacity: 5.56 NATO
- Barrel Length: 16”
- Total Length: 35.5”
Any of Ares’ henchmen that weren’t packing Sig Sauer rifles came to the party with a Colt M4 Carbine. It’s the classic American military weapon that is in active service all round the world.
You can own the semi-automatic version of the guns that has gone to war and serves with law enforcement officers In military form it is the most popular assault rifle in the world.
This particular model is the Law Enforcement spec, but it’s still a semi-automatic rifle. That means you can order it today and it comes with the classic iron sights that collapse if you want to use something a little more up-to-date in terms of a Tirjicon scope and RMR.
It’s the classic AR-15, there really aren’t any surprises with the Colt and that’s why plenty of people are prepared to pay the premium for the official supplier of the American military M4. There are lots of clones, but Colt does have that Mil-spec reputation.
If you don’t have a Colt in your AR-15 collection, then it’s time you fixed that.
If the money is a step too far, then we have some great low-priced AR-15s for you here, at $500 or less. They are some of the finest rifles for sale if you are on a budget.
8. Smith & Wesson SW1911
- Price: $790.00
- Caliber: 45 ACP
- Capacity: 8+1
- Barrel Length: 5”
- Total Length: 8.7”
- Weight: 2.49lb
Ares takes the classic Smith & Wesson 1911 into battle with John Wick and it was never going to be enough. She does her best, suppressed and unsuppressed, but in the end she gets nailed with her own knife while John Wick walks off with her gun to finish the job.
Now it’s easy to break the $1,000 mark with the SW1911, especially if you go for a Performance Center variant.
We found one that isn’t quite true to the film. If you’re prepared to forego Ares’ blued finish, then the matte steel finish is just $790.00. We think that’s a steal for a great, classic 1911.
Of course these are all mob hitman and bodyguards, seemingly jumping the fence as the jobs arise. In the real world, they would probably all be packing a Glock or one of the plastic Glock alternatives. They have a better capacity, but they don’t have the stage presence of the 1911 pistols for sale.
Smith & Wesson stayed true to the spirit of John Moses Browning with this pistol and that makes for a reliable weapon that has been proven on too many battlefields.
9 Arwen 37
- Price: $1000+
- Capacity: 5
- Length: 30.35”
- Weight: 7.72lb
This British non-lethal launcher was designed to shoot far less intimidating ammunition than the incendiary rounds Santino D’Antonio pumps into John Wick’s house. In retrospect, he probably regrets that.
The Arwen comes with a five-round rotary drum and takes everything from smoke grenades to bean bag rounds. It also takes stuff that can properly blow the shit out of a house, as you see in John Wick Chapter 2.
It’s a riot gun, with a number of applications for dispersing crowds. It’s not really meant for blowing underworld assassins through their own windows. But it seemed to do that job pretty well.
You are not really meant to buy these. So, you might get lucky if you scour the private ads, but we can’t see an obvious place to go for this one.
10. Sig Sauer P320 Compact
- Price: $499.99
- Caliber: 9mm
- Capacity: 15+1
- Barrel Length: 3.9”
- Total Length: 7.2”
- Weight: 1.63lb
John Wick has the uncanny knack of picking up a gun when he really needs one. Probably because the film has his name on it and that would be the end of a pretty sweet deal if he didn’t grab another firearm and keep the enemy blood flowing.
More than one of those guns that he picks up is, in our opinion, the finest EDC handgun in the world: the Sig Sauer P320 Compact.
It’s better than a Glock 19, it’s better than any purpose-built concealed carry at the range and if you can live with the slightly bulkier frame then this is really a gun you should consider as your carry gun.
The Glock 19 is just the start of a gun and it needs a trigger, strippling and slide work. The Sig Sauer P320 Compact is the finished article in every single sense. It’s the gun the Glock 19 should have been.
11. Beretta Cheetah
- Price: $700.00
- Caliber: .380 Special
- Capacity: 8+1
- Barrel length: 3.8″
- Total Length: 6.8″
- Weight: 1.37lb
The villain of the piece, Santino D’Antonio packs a Beretta Cheetah. The Beretta 84 is not the easiest weapon to find these days and most people prefer the Beretta 92 FS that is one of our favorite full-size pistols.
That’s the service pistol thaty is also known as the M9. Yes, that one, one of the most famous pistols of all time.
The Cheetah is the slimline, lightweight concealed carry version of that iconic handgun. It shoots 380 Special, which is why most people gravitate towards the bigger Beretta 92.
It’s just not a fashionable round anymore, but then D’Antonio has his own particular style. There is a 9mm version of the Beretta Cheetah, but then it’s just so close to the 92 and it’s giving too much away at the same time.
Get one of these instead.
Essentially this Cheetah is just a smaller version of that gun and offers 8+1 capacity, which should be enough with P+ loads.
Still, we’d always say to go for the proper 9mm service pistol. Not that it would have been enough to save this fella, to be fair.
Honestly, if you want the best CCW in the world, this isn’t it. Start here if you want a more effective gun for concealed carry.
12. Arsenal Firearms AF-1 Strike One
- Price: $500
- Caliber: 9mm
- Capacity: 15+1
- Barrel length: 4″
- Total Length: 7″
Cassian carries a Glock rival that is the combined work of Russian and Italian designers, but the Strike One wasn’t their finest work.
Now, the Arsenal Firearms Strike One has given way to the Archon Type B, which is a much better all-round pistol. Essentially it’s a 9mm Glock 19 rival and Cassian is a major character and a personal bodyguard for one of the world’s crime bosses. Of course, Keanu Reeves is sent in to kill her…
Still, it’s an unusual weapon that marks Cassian apart, together with his bulletproof suit that is mildly ridiculous and yet technically possible these days. It’s a surreal moment to watch Cassian and John Wick shoot each other at close range and simply fall down in pain for a moment.
Back to the Arsenal Firearms Strike One. It’s a polymer pistol, a standard sidearm that simply offers something different to the standard Glock.
In this case, we think the film props department decided to be different for its own sake, but the Archon Type B is a step forward. The company also has a deal with Salient Arms to create the high-end Stryk line. That could work, maybe.
13. HK P30L + Compensator
- Price: $685
- Barrel Length: 4.4″
- Total Length: 7.7″
- Capacity: 15+1 rounds
At the start of the film, John Wick is still taking care of business with his HK P30. It’s his chosen sidearm and the one he has at home, so you have to assume that John Wick was a long time HK enthusiast who relied on its weapons throughout his unusual and highly successful career.
This one really is a movie gun. There’s nothing wrong with the original HK P30L, but the compensator is just a bit much for general life.
For competition shooting, yeah I see it. A hitman shouldn’t be adding length to the barrel of the gun without proper silencing, though, and we think this was just a Hollywood touch to make Keanu Reeves’ character look that little bit more formidable.
When he gets home from his borderline insane revenge mission in the first film, he returns the HK to the underground compartment and concretes it in. Before it’s even dry enough to dig out, he has been dragged back into the underworld and dispatched to kill a crime boss.
The HK P30L and Kel-Tec Shotgun gave way to new weapons for John Wick Chapter 2, though, and it’s good that they did because we have more to write about.
14. Microtech Combat Troodon Knife
- Price: $400
- Type: Automatic OTF
- Blade Length: 3.8 inch
- Total Length: 9.5 inch
The sharp ones among you (yeah, I’ll probably delete that at some point) will have already noticed this is a knife and not a gun. But I got tired of people asking what knife does John Wick use? So here is the answer.
It’s a $400 knife on the open market and that’s good, because Keanu Reeves gets a fair bit of crucial use from his in John Wick Chapter 3. Some of the knife violence in the film is pretty nasty and the closest it gets to truly squeamish.
But if you’re wondering what knife does John Wick use, now you know…
John Wick 3 Rumors and Facts
What do we know about John Wick 3 Parabellum? Well we know that John Wick has been declared ex-communicado from The Continental and every hitman in the world is after Keanu Reeves.
That’s not ideal…
We also know John Wick 3 Parabellum has a release date for May 17 2019 and is set to become one of the biggest movies of 2019. Not bad for what could easily have been an offbeat dark comedy about a hitman driven over the edge.
Chad Stahelski is back in the Director’s chair for the third instalment of the John Wick franchise and he has made those long, martial arts-inspired shootouts we have come to love. Chad Stahelski and David Leitch are the brains behind the franchise and they’re still at the helm, which bodes well.
John Wick Chapter 3 has a running man angle, where Reeves is the prey and every other hitman in the world is they prey. Of course, it doesn’t stay that way for long.
It’s a cat and mouse game that is largely played out in New York, before heading overseas.
Halle Berry joins the fray as a fellow dog loving loner, which looks kind of cool. They’re clearly in a desert, too, and as John Wick’s hit has gone international and there’s a $14 million bounty on his head, we’ll have to wait and see where that is.
Ian McShane and Laurence Fishburne return alongside Keanu Reeves as Bowery King and Winston for John Wick Chapter 3, but they’re on the opposing team this time.
Willem Defoe kinda died in Chapter 2, while Cassian won’t be back after his last encounter with Mr Wick ended with a knifepoint lodged in his heart. The story looks pretty focused on Keanu Reeves and Halle Berry, which should be a pretty decent start.
Here’s the trailer again, just in case you decided not to watch up top. It’s got Keanu on a motorbike with a samurai sword, shooting people from on top a horse and carrying heavy artillery with that look of purpose.
Yeah, the trailer is amazing, John Wick 3 is set to be amazing. We’ll have the guns of John Wick 3 for you soon.
