The latest ATF data shows that Americans own as many as 423 million guns and the rough estimate is that there are roughly 8.1 billion rounds of ammunition in civilian hands on North American soil.
How many guns are there in America? That’s a popular question, and now you sort of know. Previously we thought it was 400 million. But no, it’s more. America you have outdone yourself.
And those are just the legally owned weapons. Oh and you can also buy more for Christmas…. Those are our favorite guns, but if you just want the random Christmas gun sales go here.
Still coming for that AR-15 Beto?
ATF Reports Foundation For New Study
The Firearms Industry Trade Association crunched the numbers that are freely available in the ATF’s own annual reports.
The headline figure does come with a big caveat. These are the guns that have been sold from 1986 to 2019 and it’s fair to say that some of those are out of commission by now. How many? Well that’s a tricky question to answer.
Guns Have Boating Accidents All The Time
Some will be rotting in pieces, in the corner of a gun safe somewhere. Others will be sitting at the bottom of a mythical lake, after a boating accident. So the numbers get a little hazy at that point.
But we do know that those guns have been sold and there’s a paper trail. We really don’t know how many black market and plain unregistered guns change hands, but we do know that gun violence is on the decrease.
Gun Accidents on the Decrease
Wait. What? Yes really, despite what the frothy-mouthed Left would have you believe, FITA noted a steady decrease in gun-related violence since 1993. Violent crime has dropped 48.6% in the same period, but firearms-related accidents decreased by 68%.
Of course, we’re the first to call out the Left’s slanted stats. So we’re not going to throw cherry-picked numbers as conclusive proof of, well, anything.
The gun control debate is never going to be fixed with one zinger of a stat. I think we all know that by now. Well, we do anyway…
Modern Sporting Rifles, or Full Semi Autos, Half of Rifle Purchases
Another interesting point is that Modern Sporting Rifles, AR-15s, AK-47s and the like, made up half of all rifle purchases in 2017. That comes despite increasing pressure on assault rifles, full semi-auto rifles and whatever other made up name the Communists have come up with this week.
Modern Sporting Rifles are under assault from the Left. That came to a head when serial grandstasnder Beto O’Rourke confidently told us that ‘Yes. We are coming for your AR-15.’
AR-15 Sales Increasing, Despite Gun Control Laws
But the unintended consequences of their feel good policies have been a serious spike in AR-15 sales. Concealed carry handguns are increasingly seen as essential self defense in States where you can carry.
We’re selling lots and we’d invite you to look at these posts that we update constantly.

Hyatt is Selling More Guns Too
“Sales have definitely been brisk, especially of small, concealable handguns. We also saw a spike in sales of tactical rifles like AR-15s and AK-47s, for which I think we can confidently thank Beto O’Rourke,” Justin Anderson, the marketing director for Hyatt Guns in Charlotte, North Carolina told the Washington Examiner.
