11 Best 44 Magnum Revolvers For Sale in 2019

Smith & Wesson Performance Center 629 44 Magnum revolver for sale. One of the best hunting handguns on the market.

The 44 Magnum revolver holds a special place in America’s heart and you buy guns, like at all, then you almost certainly own one of these charismatic wheelguns.

But which is the best 44 Magnum revolver for sale in 2019?

Now this is a highly emotive subject, more so than most of these lists. Pistols & Revolver fans are more tribal than the Apple vs Samsung crowd and whatever we do here, somebody is going to be upset. There are going to be multiple entries from the usual suspects, too, and even model variants. That’s just the way it goes and there are a lot of Smith & Wesson 44 Magnum revolvers on this list.

That said, sticking our head above the parapet and naming the best 44 Magnum revolvers for sale in 2019 is basically our job here. Be warned, we have gone for the more spectacular gunporn offerings rather than the sedate, sensible choices. So here goes…

Smith & Wesson 629 V-Comp Performance 44 Magnum for sale. Get the best prices on the best handguns on sale at the USA Gun Shop.

1. Smith & Wesson 629 V-Comp Performance Center

  • Price: $1,449.99
  • Caliber: 44 Magnum
  • Barrel Length: 4 inch
  • Total Length:
  • Weight: 2.76lb
  • Capacity: 6

Just look at the Smith & Wesson 629 V-Comp Performance Center handgun and tell me you don’t want it.

Smith & Wesson 629 revolvers are going to feature pretty heavily on this list. You already knew that in your heart. We’re going to say Dirty Harry a few times as well, so you have been warned.

The S&W 629 V-Comp Performance Center is our favorite all round 44 Magnum for sale right now. Yes it’s a little bit operator, it’s a designer handgun and a seriously shiny piece of engineering, but it’s also functional gunporn.

This large frame revolver can do it all. It’s a competitive target shooting favorite, the barrel is long enough for handgun hunting and this is also a serious tool for home defense. The S&W V-Comp is a little chunky for CCW handgun duty, but it can do just about everything else.

Handgun compensators start to make sense when you get to 44 Magnum ammunition, which is an absolute monster of a round. Any help you can get reducing the recoil, from the compensator and the cushioned black synthetic grips, has to be a good thing.

The hammer, trigger and trigger stop are all chrome and should stand the test of time. That Performance Center S&W 629 can be matched up to a series of other barrels and S&W parts & accessories too.

It’s not quite modular, because each gun is tuned by the master gunsmiths at the factory to work as a whole, rather than just the sum of its parts. But you can certainly mix and match barrels. Or do what the real addicts do and buy multiple guns.

This 44 Magnum is just beautifully proportioned. We love the serrations on the wheel, the checker on the thumb safety, the functional adjustable black blade rear sights and orange dovetail front sight, and the custom porting on the compensator.

Ruger Super Blackhawk Bisley Hunter for sale. Discount guns at the USA Gun Shop.

2. Ruger New Model Super Blackhawk Bisley Hunter

  • Price: $849.99
  • Caliber: 44 Magnum
  • Barrel Length: 7.5 inch
  • Total Length: 13.12 inch
  • Weight: 3.2lb
  • Capacity: 6

The 7.5 inch barrel and Bisley grip have made this sturdy Ruger revolver a favorite with 44 Magnum handgun hunters. It’s also a beautifully proportioned gun and that counts for something.

Screw you, it does.

The defining features on the Ruger New Model Super Blackhawk Bisley Hunter are the single action trigger that really marks this Ruger line apart from more or less every other 44 Magnum revolver on the market.

A single action revolver in 44 Magnum is a definite choice, but it’s part of the tribal divide that delights and infuriates fans of the New Model Ruger Super Blackhawk and the S&W 629.

The Bisley-style grip and a number of features that combine to reduce the chances of an accidental discharge are less important.

Safety isn’t such a big deal with double action revolvers, but here it is and the Super Blackhawk Hunter and associated weapons are basically sold on the strength of that sharp single action trigger and the transfer bar safety mechanism.

A patented transfer bar mechanism and loading gate are all minor refinements, but this is a revolver. It’s pretty hard to reinvent this thing.

What is there is good, from the adjustable rear sight to the replaceable insert ramp front sight. The ribs in the barrel are perfect for a handgun scope and that turns the Ruger into a very serious handgun hunter.

Handgun hunting is taking off, particularly with odd local gun laws that prohibit rifles at certain times. That has meant a renaissance for the hunting handgun and the Ruger is a purist’s favorite.

The new model Ruger Super Blackhawk is a solid ass revolver that shoots straight and true. Some people prefer the perceived fit and finish advantage of a top line Smith & Wesson revolver. But others trust Ruger with their lives each and every day.

This has turned into something of a tribal divide along the lines of Apple vs Android fanatics. As always, personal feel or some second hand story about a gun jamming that lodged in your brain is probably the biggest factor.

Either way, you do you. But the new model Ruger Super Black Hawk hunter might be the finest gun on another list. It’s that close.

Smith & Wesson Stealth Hunter Performane. One of the best 44 Magnum revolvers for target shooting, hunting and more. Buy your gun online now.

3. Smith & Wesson Stealth Hunter Performance

  • Price: $1,430.00
  • Barrel Length: 7.5 inch
  • Overall Length: 12.9 inch
  • Weight: 3.5lb
  • Capacity: 6

If the S&WV-Comp hadn’t won, then the Stealth Hunter Performance would be the top dog in this 44 magnum revolver gunfight.

It’s really that simple. We love this high price, high-spec gun, it might just be our personal favorite and if you own one then you will know just what we mean. We know you might tire of the Smith & Wesson Model 629 before too long. But not yet…

The 629 Stealth Hunter is built on the classic N-Frame design and the whole design, from the frame to the weighted barrel, have been designed to deal with recoil and provide a repeatable, comfortable shot to big game hunters and competition shooters.

Simple weight and balance has been applied to the classic N-Frame stainless steel 629 S&W. That barrel with an integral rail for scope mounts and red dot sights has been added to dampen recoil and keep the gun pointed straight and true. The accuracy on this gun is absolutely unnerving and it has become a legend in the target shooting community.

You don’t get all the premium touches and upgrades that some of Smith & Wesson’s guns offer, but that can be a good thing.

The barrel is painstakingly matched to the frame, that’s whole point of a S&W PC handgun, but it doesn’t look it. The barrel and frame look mismatched, put together as an afterthought. There’s a sincere attempt at an aftermarket look and for some reason it kind of works here. I mean it shouldn’t, but it does.

Smith & Wesson 329PD. The best 44 Magnum revolver for sale in 2019. Buy guns online now at the USA Gun Shop.

4. Smith & Wesson 329 PD

  • Price: $1005.99
  • Caliber: 44 Magnum/44 Special
  • Barrel Length: 4.1 inch
  • Total Length: 9.5 inch
  • Weight: 1.58lb
  • Rounds: 6

Smith & Wesson basically had to win the battle for the best 44 Magnum Revolver and if the 629 V-Comp didn’t take the win, we think this would be your champion.

The S&W 329 PD could be a controversial choice as there have been issues, but it’s new technology and the most complete 44 mag revolver on the market. We went for the eye catching and unique, but this is the practical option.

The company invented the whole shooting match and the Smith & Wesson Model 29 came into being in 1957 as the company developed the N-Frame revolver.

Since then, the Model 29 has seen a number of changes, but this is a radical repackaging of the gun that has come about thanks to material science.

A Scandium alloy frame and a titanium cylinder sound the absolute tits, because they are. This is hardcore science at work and the end result is a 1.58lb revolver that is just perfectly proportioned.

People hunt with this gun, it’s great for home defense and it’s light enough for an everyday carry handgun if you want a wheel gun for a carry pistol.

The fiber optic front sight comes from HIVIZ and the adjustable rear sight means you can use the OEM optics for range shooting, hunting or competitive target shooting. Of course you can mount a more substantial handgun scope up top if you want a more considered shot.

Plain and simple this is a solid handgun in a lightweight package that looks absolutely fantastic.

The matte black finish and wood grips are a nod to the humble police service pistol, but they also make it look like a seriously expensive designer handgun.  That’s lucky, because it really is.

The Smith & Wesson 329PD really isn’t cheap, but then it is stunning. If you want your .44 Mag EDC revolver to look as good as it shoots, then this is the gun you have to buy online right now.

Taurus Raging Bull 44 Magnum 8.375 inch barrel. A monster handgun that is becoming a favorite for home defense and hunting.

5. Taurus 444 Raging Bull

  • Price: $680.90
  • Barrel Length: 8.38 inch
  • Total Length: 14 inch
  • Weight: 3.94lb
  • Capacity: 6

If you just want an absolute hand cannon of a 44 Magnum handgun for sale, then this is your huckleberry and all that. The Taurus Raging Bull comes with the 8.38 inch barrel in its most absurd form and you have seen this gun in more films than you know.

The Taurus 444 Raging Bull is just a beast, which it needs to be as it can also come chambered in 454 Casull. That’s an absolute monster of a round that is beyond most of our needs, but is arguably the best bear defense caiber. Alaskans have trusted the 454 Casull for a while and they are the kind of people that really need that power.

But if you don’t face down grizzlies and wolves on your way to the local store then the 44 Magnum version of the Taurus Raging Bull 444 is more than enough gun for home defense, hunting with handguns or just having fun with absolute gunporn.

Factory porting on the barrel and cushioned grips help reduce felt recoil, but really this gun is all about that enormous barrel that generates additional muzzle velocity. The 44 Magnum is hardly shy to begin with, so the Taurus turns it into an absolute ballistic missile.

You can buy this gun with a 2 inch barrel and there are a whole range of Taurus Raging Bull 444 handguns for sale, as well as Taurus 44 pistols. But we love this long, factory ported barrel. It’s what the Taurus really should be.

Ruger Vaquero Birdshead for sale. Get your bargain guns online at the USA Gun Shop, the best online gunbroker

6. Ruger Vaquero Birdshead

  • Price: $729.99
  • Barrel Length: 3.75 inch
  • Total Length: 9 inch
  • Weight: 2.3lb
  • Capacity: 6

Ruger, like Smith and Wesson, has come up with several different recipes of the same basic weapon and decided on a single action revolver based on the New Model Ruger Super Blackhwak frame. The Ruger Vaquero Birdshead is the result and it’s quite the piece ofg engineering.

It was actually a response to the demands of ‘cowboy action shooters’ and hit the shelves in 1993 in its first form. In 2005 the Ruger Vaquero came in for an overhaul, with the smaller XR-3 grip bringing the profile more into line with the Colt Single Action Army pistol, which is considered one of the finer firearms of all time.

Dirty Harry fought crime with a 44 Magnum Smith & Wesson Model 29. Buy your gun online right now.

7. Smith & Wesson Model 29

  • Price: $889.99
  • Caliber: 44 Magnum/44 Special
  • Barrel Length: 4 inch
  • Total Length:
  • Weight: 2.74lb
  • Capacity: 6

The Smith & Wesson Model 29 was made famous by Dirty Harry and now you can have your very own hand cannon for less than $900.

So do you feel lucky? Sorry, we’ll stop now.

Dirty Harry would not approve of the fancy engraving on this particular firearm, or the machine checkered walnut grip. But he would like the modern day Model 29 44 Magnum revolver that has taken all the best parts of its predecessors.

This six-shot, double action revolver was the world’s most powerful handgun when it was launched in 1955, but this specialist hunter and heavyweight security weapon didn’t hit the headlines until Clint Eastwood turned his into a silver screen legend in 1971. It was several guns, obviously, but Dirty Harry’s Smith & Wesson 44 Magnum might be the most famous movie gun of all time.

The new gun comes a carbon-steel cylinder and frame, with a blued finish. It’s a seriously durable handgun that has stood the test of time in better hands than ours.

In the late 90s, Smith & Wesson technically discontinued the standard Model 29 as the stainless steel Smith & Wesson Model 629 took over with stainless steel in the recipe for the frame. Special editions will keep gong forever through S&W Classics, though, they’re good business. That explains the engraving work, we guess and the fact that the Smith & Wesson Model 29 is likely to stay on sale forever.

Magnum Research BFR Short Cylinder 44 Magnum. A comeback for the Magnum Research BFR revolver that was once the most powerful handgun in the world.

8. Magnum Research BFR Short Cylinder

  • Price: $1019.99
  • Barrel Length: 5 inch
  • Total Length: 11.25 inch
  • Weight: 3.44lb
  • Capacity: 5

The Magnum Research Big Frame Revolver was a revelation when it launched, thanks largely to its status as the most powerful production handgun in the world It fired the 45-70 Government rifle cartridges, felled big game and starred in hundreds of YouTube videos.

But it was expensive, impractical and it just didn’t take off as anything more than a curiosity. The BFR Short Cylinder looks set to change that, with a range of calibers that include 44 Magnum ammunition. It looks set to be the volume seller in a range of substantial cartridges that includes the 50AE that fires out the hot end of the Desert Eagle semi auto.

The name was rumored to mean Big Fucking Revolver. Now it means Big Frame Revolver, which is less x-rated. It’s still the same basic technology as the revolver that started it all. But now you can choose better calibers and forget about having a record breaking gun with record breaking recoil.

This is the shorter barrel version, with the 7.5 inch longer gun being the preferred option for hunters. The Magnum Research BFR Short Cylinder revolver comes with just five rounds though. It also isn’t the slick operation that the S&W guns are when it comes to reloading.

You really have to flip the latch and reload each chamber individually, rather than flipping out the wheel and pushing the wjectro rod. That’s not happening here.

So tactically it’s a poor choice and you have to have a specific reason for your Magnum Research BFR handgun, like hunting or bear defense, to choose one over a S&W. Even then we’re not sure why you would…

The Weaver-style scope mount, brushed stainless finish and cushioned synthetic grips are all good. Some people might just prefer the feel of a Magnum Research revolver too. And more power to you if that’s the case.

Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan. A classic pocket gun for mountain men, chambered in 44 Magnum for mere mortals. Get the best price now.

9. Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan

  • Price: $946.00
  • Caliber: 44 Remington Mag
  • Barrel Length: 2.5 inch
  • Total Length: 7.62 inch
  • Weight: 2.8lb

This is the concealed carry handgun or pocket pistol that Alaskans rely on to stave off bears and wolves. The Ruger Alaskan is often the last line of defense and has saved more lives than sex education. Maybe, I’m not good with stats.

That is largely the even snappier 454 Casull round, which is about as strong as pocket pistols get. But even with the 44 Rem Mag version, you’re going to feel it when you fire off six rounds.

The Ruger Redhawk is also the double action revolver of the family, while the single action Ruger Blackhawk offers an entirely different experience.

The adjustable rear sight seems optimistic to be honest. Not many people use these as a precision tool. They’re a simple spray and pray revolver with a massive kick that can slip into your belt, pocket or sock.

This is an absolute lump of a satin stainless steel revolver that you could use to club your opponent to death if it comes to that. This double action revolver is forged from corrosion resistant stainless steel that was specifically designed to deal with the rigors of northern living. So it’s tough shiz.

Ruger hammer forged the barrel, provided cushioned grips and created an inimitable revolver. The longer barrel versions are basically this gun with another barrel grafted on, and they’re good too. But this is our favorite Ruger Super Redhawk handgun for sale.

The longer 7.5 inch barrel Ruger Super Redhawk deserves its own entry and probably will get one. But when you look at it then it really does look like the snubnose gun with another barrel jammed in there. I challenge you to tell me it’s anything else. The Ruger Super Redhawk is an eccentric work of art and that bizarre DIY look has become part of the pistol’s USP. But it’s a love it or hate it thing…

Here’s the Ruger Ruger Redhawk 7.5 inch in all its glory and where you can buy your guns online for $1049.99

Ruger Super Redhawk 7.5 inch barrel. An unusual 44 Magnum revolver with a DIY look and legendary build quality. Buy your gun now.

Smith & Wesson 629 Specialist Hunter for sale. A 44 magnum revolver with a scope, a compensator and hunting pedigree.

10. Smith & Wesson 629 Specialist Hunter

  • Price: $1,299
  • Caliber: 44 Remington Magnum
  • Barrel: 7.5 inch
  • Weight: 3.59lb
  • Caliber: 6

This is a full-bore Smith & Wesson Performance Center revolver, which means the best custom gunsmiths in the business have gone to work on what was already an iconic 44 Magnum revolver.

The S&W Performance Center 629 Specialist Hunter is all stainless steel, naturally, and the signature two-tone finish helps tell the others in the field that you’ve spent serious money on one of the firearms manufacturer’s more eccentric offerings. Aesthetically at least.

This is a thoroughbred hunting handgun and literally every part on the gun is there for a reason. The asymmetric compensator helps reduce recoil, the Picatinny rail has a red dot mounted up there from the factory, but you can easily switch that out for the best handgun scopes.

You get a chrome hammer, a chrome trigger and stop and an action that is tuned by the best engineers at Smith & Wesson.

Is it worth the money? Yes, we think it is.

S&W 629 Performance Center 44 Magnum snubnose for sale. 2.7 inch barrel and a mighty punch.

11. Smith & Wesson 629 Snubnose Performance Center

  • Price: $1,299
  • Caliber: 44 Remington Magnum/44 Special
  • Barrel: 2.7 inch
  • Total Length: 7.6 inch
    Weight: 2.3lb
    Caliber: 6

Is there such a thing as a concealed carry Smith & Wesson 629 revolver? Apparently so.

At 2.3lb, this little monster is pushing the definition of a concealed carry pistol. But then the barrel is 2.7 inches and the whole gun is concealable at 7.6 inches long, if that’s what you want to do.

More often than not, these guns are open carry as a last line of extreme animal defense. In a bear encounter, 44 Magnum is really the bare minimum you would want.

With a snubnose gun then the increased accuracy of the Performance Center mods really doesn’t come into things. Instead the chrome hammer and trigger set are there for reliability and durability in your double action revolver.

The adjustable rear sight is nice, but again this is a general direction kind of firearms rather than a precise target picker at 25 yards.

The Super Blackhawk Hunter would be our first choice, but the entry-level new model Super Blackhawk is a classic cowboy six shooter chambered in 44 Magnum that might just be all the gun you want.

The single action new model Ruger Super Blackhawk is a solid weapon that some believe is much tougher than the Smith and Wesson 629.

The stainless Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter without the Bisley grips is a solid option, too, but that costs $849.99. This old school six shooter, without the bells and whistles, is still a lot of fun and a reliable firearm and you don’t need the Super Blackhawk Hunter to have a great handgun at your side.
