19 Best 10mm Pistol For Sale – January 2022
10mm is back! It was always a better round than 9mm, but the crippling cost of ammunition and a few recoil issues meant 10mm guns simply took a backseat and this perfect self-defense round fell by the wayside. Now, that’s changing.
The FBI made the round famous by bringing it onboard after the 1986 Miami shoot-out revealed a lack of stopping power in the 9mm. When law enforcement dumped the 10mm caliber due to excess recoil and large pistol sizes, it just went out of fashion thanks to the exorbitant prices.
It still isn’t cheap, but then this isn’t for plinking at the range. It’s an equalizer to bring down furious vengeance and lay some wrath when you need it most. Or it’s an actual hunting weapon.
For a pistol, this is serious firepower. US Marine Jeff Cooper developed the round in 1983, for the Bren Ten. It has come a long way since then.
As Ammo Gets Cheaper, a 10mm Pistol For Sale Gets Cheaper
Lower ammo costs mean that the round is now a viable option for home defense, bears, White Tail hunting
It’s a big round, which comes with packaging problems, so 10mm concealed carry guns are still thin on the ground. But they’re getting here and we have a few for you.
With a full-size pistol, though, the gloves are off, you can do what you want. That means there are some absolutely stunning options right now, especially the
A good 10mm pistol will give you more punch than a .357 Magnum round, which puts this cartridge up there with the best of them. It’s still less than a 44 Magnum, though, so don’t get carried away with revolvers. More on that later…
Here are our best 10mm handguns.
1. Glock G20 Gen 4
- Price: $613.99
- Caliber: 10mm Auto pistol
- Barrel length: 4.61″
- Total Length: 8.03”
- Weight: 1.73lb
- Capacity: 15+1
Regular readers will know that Glock doesn’t win very often round here. For the most part the blocky Austrian gun is generic, a little dated and incomplete. Here, it just works.
Online gun reviews all say the same thing. The Glock G20 Gen 4 is almost untouchable here.
This is a cost-effective package and you get 15+1 rounds, which basically means you’ve got an army in your hand. If it sounds like complete overkill, then read stories of hunters that have emptied an entire mag into a charging bear before it came to a halt.
Bear country used to be the reserve of big revolvers. But the Glock is taking over as the preferred weapon of choice thanks to the capacity, control and cumulative damage of the large mag. It’s also super reliable and the controlled recoil means you can actually group shots.
Glock Predictability a Benefit in a 10mm Pistol
There’s not much to tell you apart from the capacity. It’s a Glock, so a striker-fired pistol that you’d need to put alongside the rest to play spot-the-difference. That also means aftermarket parts like extended mags are no problem.
Of all the guns for sale, Glock probably gets the most support with parts and accessories. That makes your life infinitely simpler and it means you can breathe some life into this appliance of a handgun with a few custom parts.
Glock Mods Are Part of the Fun
You’ll want to stipple the G20 Gen 4, or fit grip tape. You might want to switch out the trigger and the fixed dot sights could do with an upgrade. But the truth is that Glock and this caliber basically have the same values. That shows..
That might explain why some of the usual suspects that make the best 9mm handguns in the world and have largely gone past Glock have left this niche alone.
When you need it most, for home defense, bears, lions, sharks or something even more serious, the Glock will go bang. Reliability and accuracy are the two things you really need. The Glock gives you those in spades, as well as providing a large capacity handgun that works instinctively.
We are not Glock fanboys here, not at all, but we have to admit it the G20 Gen 4 smashes it out the park here. And if it didn’t win, another Glock would have.
For years, Glock has reigned supreme on value, reliability, practicality, just about everything that matters in a defensive pistol. With more power, that matters.
2. Kimber Rapide
- Price: $1,476.90
- Caliber: 10mm Auto
- Barrel Length: 5”
- Weight: 2.3lb
- Capacity: 8+1
Kimber unashamedly went after the growing race gun market with the Kimber Rapide and the end result is a sexy little gun that is part prepped for competition.
You can take it down that road if you want, or just be happy with an awesome custom 1911 with small mods that make it that much more fun to shoot.
The ported slide, TiN coated barrel, and stippled front strap all help keep a positive grip and sight picture in tandem with that fiber optic front sight. The slide cuts, meanwhile, make a noticeable difference to the cycling time.
So you can rattle off 9 shots in quick succession when you need to. Like when a bear is charging at your face, for instance…
A flared magwell is another competition touch that will help in the field and we think the Kimber Rapide could be a serious addition to this fold. We like it anyway, and we think you will too.
3. EAA Tanfoglio Witness Compact Polymer
- Price: $717.99
- Caliber: 10mm
- Length: 3.6 inch
- Length: 7.3 inch
- Weight: 1.8lb
- Capacity: 14+1
Yes, you really are looking at the best carry pistol that seems to combine the main strengths of a Glock and a CZ 75 B.
That’s a good recipe. Really good.
The EAA Witness is a stout, sturdy gun that fills the hand despite its compact status. You get 12 rounds of 10mm ammunition and that is a hell of a lot for a self-defense situation. You really can’t pack much more heat than this as your EDC without getting weird…
This gun comes with a typical personal defense set-up: double action/single action. But there’s a hammer and so you do have more control That’s just science.
The trigger is sweet, as you’d expect from master Italian gunsmiths, and the snakeskin effect stippling works a treat. Also that chopped nose and bevelled spine up top work perfectly when it comes to the draw.
The matte black plastic finish does it for us and we would have this over the Glock 29 in a heartbeat. EAA has proven itself on the tough competition shooting circuit and its defensive gun lines are slowly getting a reputation for reliability and all the other attributes you really, really like in a carry gun.
4. Sig Sauer P220
- Price: $1,767.99
- Barrel: 4.4 inch
- Overall Length: 7.7
- Weight: 1.9lb
- Capacity: 8+1
The Sig P220 Hunter is the official P220 for field sports and 10mm ammo. But honestly I don’t think the deer cares if you shoot it in the head with a camo finish handgun.
With that in mind, we prefer the Sig Sauer P220 Legion with the iconic matte
The Legion is a designer handgun, if we’re honest, a fashion label in its own right. It’s the best that arguably the world’s finest firearms manufacturer can offer. That’s why it’s in gun safes everywhere.
It’s a
But if you’re looking for an EDC 10mm pistol, a home defense legend and a great gun to keep in the gun safe by your bed, then this is the one you really want. You can easily update the fixed dot sights too.
This is one of our favorite guns in 45 ACP. Of course, we think it’s great chambered in 10mm ammo.
5. Smith & Wesson M&P 2.0
- Price: $807.99
- Barrel: 5”
- Total Weight: 1.9lb
- Capacity: 15+1
S&W and other big brands were noticeable by their absence in their sector. So we’re pleased to welcome this stalwart of the multi caliber polymer pistol crew to the fray.
You can get an M&P2.0 with everything from a 3 inch to a 5 inches in length barrel, and just about all the handgun calibers you can think of. It’s one of the most popular 9mm handguns on sale and it’s a real Glock alternative. Now you can get this round with longer barrels or a carry pistol from S&W.
The slide is bevelled and carved with the familiar scallop design and some people just flat out prefer the grips on these guns.
We’re glad to see the M&P show up to this party and owner reviews suggest this lightweight 10mm version is a great option.
6. Rock Island Armory Ultra FSHC 10mm
- Price: $783.99
- Barrel: 5”
- Total Length: 8.75”
- Total Weight: 2.9lb
- Capacity: 16+1
This double-stack 1911 isn’t the prettiest on this list, but Rock Island Armory really do make good guns and this one carries more bullets than anything else here. That’s a big deal, especially at this price.
It’s a simple idea, a double stack version of the single-stack RIA TAC Ultra. But it’s a simple idea the big names either never got round to or simply haven’t mastered. RIA, then, has a real USP here.
The RIA Ultra is a cheap 10mm pistol that carries a stack of ammo. It is based on a straightforward 1911 design and has a stellar reputation for reliability.. The
It’s a perfect bear defense gun if you want a Glock alternative. The Ultra looks kinda cool in its own way, the functional grips work and the safety operates like clockwork.
Nobody can quite believe the pistol review or the pricing on Rock Island Armory 1911s and the web is full of questions like:
- Why are Rock Island Armory guns so cheap?
- Are Rock Islands Armory guns good?
- Is a Rock Island Armory 1911 a piece of junk?
Rock Island Pistols Get Great Reviews
But the truth is, the online gun reviews from actual owners are always excellent. You have to look pretty hard to find someone ragging on their cheap Rock Island Armory 1911 and that’s a feat in itself.
Reliability and weight wins the day for Glock, but the Rock Island Armory is a stunning gun and we’re not going to be badge snobs in the face of engineering excellence.
This is to the 10mm loads what the CZ 75 is to the 1911 brigade: a total curveball. As a defensive pistol, in the right conditions, this is right up there with the Glocks.
7. Glock G29
- Price: $545.99
- Barrel: 3.78″
- Total Length: 6.97″
- Weight: 1.55lb
- Capacity: 10+1 rounds
Here it is, the best 10mm CCW handgun in the world right now. Well, that’s getting debateable and this competition is hotting up.
Right now, if you’re erring on the side of caution, which you kind of should with an EDC or last stand bear defense gun, then you’ve really got to go with the polymer frame Glock. It’s the fourth generation with the annoying finger grooves, but it works.
You get 10+1 rounds magazine capacity and the traditional Glock reliability and speed when it comes to mag switches. It’s just small enough to stow away in a belt and it’s smaller than the likes of the Sig Sauer P320 Compact and Glock 19.
It’s a great back-up gun if shit gets too real, and some people have one on their belt at all times if they’re out in the untamed wilderness. You don’t always want to carry a big revolver and if you’re going to the washroom, you still need to know you’ve got an answer for an angry grizzly.
It’s a great
There are lots of options for the
8. Dan Wesson Kodiak
- Price: $2,524.99
- Barrel Length: 6″
- Total Length: 9.7″
- Weight: 2.75lb
- Capacity: 8+1 rounds
What kind of person buys a Dan Wesson Kodiak? Well, according to the company, it’s becoming a popular handgun hunter for small to medium sized game.
Other people might say it’s for range queens that like to turn out with the absolute best of the best. It’s not enough to spend $2500 on a handgun, they need you to know it too. Those people sometimes buy these handguns, it’s true.
True Engineering at Work
But engineering enthusiasts love them, too, for the slight advantages, the perfect internal polishing and balance, and the fit and finish that means your firearm will fire straight and true for decades if you look after it.
There are relative marvels like a bushing-less bull barrel and a full length slide that helps generate more velocity and power in the bullet itself.
Whatever the case, you’re going to have to be pretty goddamned handy with a target pistol if you’re going to push this gun to its limits. It’s largely better than the people that will use it. In competent hands, it would return tight groups at 80 yards and you can get more ambitious than that.
Other designer options include the Les Baer and Wilson Combat 1911s. But we think the Dan Wesson Kodiak is the big money handgun to go for if you really want to go this way.
9. Colt Delta Elite 10mm
- Price: $1,969.99
- Barrel Length: 5″
- Total Length: 8.5″
- Weight: 2.19lb
- Capacity: 8+1 rounds
The Delta Elite is a United States legend. And now there’s a Colt Delta Elite Rail gun, if you want to go that way. We have focused on the cleaner gun, though.
The Delta Elite 10mm is a legend that has gone to
That’s why the Delta Elite has such a cult following, and there’s no denying that Colt has polished this rough concept into a diamond of a handgun. With such luxuries like a double recoil spring….
Not only has this 1911 been refined over the decades, it was also good enough to stay on the shelves for more than 30 years.
Mass Market Colt With Budget Price Tag
You do hear some people say Colt Quality Control isn’t quite what it was, but competitive pricing makes up for losing the nth degree of engineering. Colt still has the top tier guns, by the way, if you want to pay around $2000 for a 45 ACP 1911 handgun then the company has lots of choices.
The Colt Delta Elite 10mm has become an iconic handgun for the masses, a firearms fashion label, rather than a full on match-grade weapon. That’s fine for a lot of happy customers.
The current version comes with genuine Novak Sights, an enhanced hammer
Don’t forget the Delta Elite Rail Gun, too, if you like a red dot sight or laser on your 1911.
10. Kimber 1911 Super Jagare 10mm
- Price: $2519.99
- Barrel: 6 inch
- Total: 9.7 inch
- Weight: 2.63lb
Yes, all you have to do is spend more than $2,200 on this Kimber custom firearm and you get a $400 Leupold Deltapoint Pro optic thrown in for free. Pretty sweet deal huh?
Custom Porting
What we do know is that the Kimber 1911 Super Jagare has custom porting on the stainless steel slide and the barrel, with the ports lining up. It helps contain the savage kick of the 10mm ammunition.
But there’s no doubt the gun just looks frickin’ awesome. The slide cuts look the absolute business, the steel frame receives a charcoal grey
Inevitably the checkering is perfect, although it isn’t checkering in the traditional sense. This is Kimber’s Super Carry pattern, overlapping scales on the front strap, the top of the slide and the business end at the rear. It looks
As a hunting handgun, it’s among the sexiest we have seen. So if you’re looking for a hunting handgun for the fall, and you want a Deltapoint Pro, then kill two birds with one stone and get this gun and one of the best value red dot sights right now. Easy aiming was never, well, so easy….
Then go kill lots more things.
11. Springfield Armory TRP Operator
- Price: $1,499.90
- Caliber: 10mm Auto
- Barrel: 6”
- Total Length: 9.6”
- Weight: 2.8lb
- Capacity: 8+1
If you want the feeling of cold, hard steel in your 10mm handgun, money isn’t an issue and you’re happy with 8+1 as your overall capacity, then the Springfield TRP was tailor-made for you.
This is beyond a full size pistol. It’s big and heavy with a long slide and an 18.5lb recoil spring to tame this big semi automatic. That really is a six” barrel. That added weight can help tame the kick of the round, though, and this is a no compromise gun that doesn’t care if it weighs heavy on your hip on a hike.
It is a work of art and it is the 1911 taken to the extreme. The company has a stellar reputation for premium 1911s and their top end guns are a work of wonder. The Operator 10mm, in some ways, is the ultimate expression of superior firepower.
I am not personally sold on the Dirty Olive grip panels, but you can change those. Some people might argue that it’s like
Tight Groups at 70 Yards With a 10mm Pistol For Sale
The semi-automatic pistol itself is a work of art and can consistently group shots at 70 yards, although you may have to tune the adjustable rear sight. That goes some way to making up for the lack of capacity.
You really could wear it to church on Sunday if you’re that way inclined, or have it on show as a work of art in its own right.
It comes with a rail for a light, red dot sight or laser. If this is the last line in defense, though, or even a bear defense gun, then you might want to go the whole hog and fit an RMR. A red dot sight, this long slide and this caliber could be the combo that renders a rifle redundant in certain circumstances. Certainly it leaves the fully adjustable rear sight without much to do except at the range.
You can even buy them complete with a Trijicon sight and once you get over the sticker shock, you’ll know this is an almighty self-defense weapon and a fine target shooter.
12. EAA Tanfoglio Witness Elite Match
- Price: $1,999
- Barrel: 6 inch
- Length: 8.75 inch
- Weight: 2.95lb
- Capacity: 14+1
You don’t know how close this came to knocking Glock off the top spot. In time, maybe this competitive shooting superstar will take the gold here. I hear it’s the one award they’re really holding out for…
Common sense prevailed in the end and the truth is that for 90% of you, the Glock 20 is better. In fact if you’re intending to put thousands of rounds through your firearm, and we kind of hope you are with a gun this expensive, then the Glock, TRP Operator and more will probably be smarter, more durable options.
If you’re going 10mm target shooting, you want to push the very limits of the 10mm round’s range and you need ultimate accuracy and power, or you just like cool guns and pure gunporn, then you won’t need much of an excuse to buy the EAA Tanfoglio Witness Match Xtreme, though.
This is a thoroughbred racehorse of a 10mm handgun. It’s a competition gun to its core and its hand tuned by Italian master gunsmiths at the company’s HQ.
Craftsmen Build the Best 9mm Target Pistol
I like to think with tiny hammers, with a cigarette in the corner of their mouths, until the gun returns the perfect note. But that’s probably just my own personal issue…
It really means that the gun is balanced from the beginning to the end of the process. It’s normally built by one master gunsmith and all the parts are matched, mated, refined and fettled. This is so beyond a drop-in match-grade barrel it isn’t funny.
Can mere mortals feel that difference in that stainless steel slide? That’s more complex, but you will know it’s there and that will give you the confidence to go for your shots. Possibly. That sounds reasonable, at least.
What we know for sure is that the steel frame is coated in ceramic for complete corrosion protection and added rigidity. Polygonal rifling increases velocity and accuracy and you can vary the recoil spring strength and the single action trigger to suit your shooting technique. The beavertail grip is perfect, the magazine capacity, everything is perfect.
EAA Makes Thoroughbred Guns
Is this gun a better ownership proposition than the Springfield coming up? It could be, if you know what you’re getting into…
This gun has been engineered to the limit, like the race horse.
So your EAA Witness Match Xtreme might not be the first choice for a nightstand pistol, even though it would be awesome to see the intruder’s face as they look into the naughty end of this two handed cannon. But it could be a thrill for hunting and self defense or use at the range as a plinking gun.
10mm is extravagant plinking ammo, but EAA will happily sell you a 9mm pistol to go with your 10mm EAA Tanfoglio Witness Match Xtreme. They’re nice like that.
An Expensive Handgun and an Emotional Purchase
This is an emotional
But if you want the absolute best, you’re curious to know what a custom competition handgun feels like and you want to spend a little more on your 10mm semi-auto, then EAA might just have the answer.
If you want to spend a lot less for 80% of the gun., then the
The EAA Witness Hunter is even cheaper at around $1,000 and offers a simple blued version of the long slide
You will see more EAA handguns on this list, be warned. We couldn’t cover the brand effectively with one or even two entries.
13. Springfield Armory XD-M
- Price: $599.99
- Barrel: 4.5 inch
- Total: 7.7 inch
- Weight: 2lb
- Capacity: 15+1
The Glock is the safe bet, but it’s looking over its shoulder. That’s because one of the company’s biggest rivals in the carry sector has finally chambered its full-size match-grade polymer pistol in 10mm.
Yeah, this gun could make a few people nervous.
The Springfield XD-M 10mm is the
The New 10mm Champion
Well maybe that’s pushing the point. But there’s no doubt the detail work is a step up from the Glock. That costs you when it comes to concealment, but it makes the slide much easier to manipulate when you actually need your gun. That’s a trade we’re willing to make.
The twin safeties, with the 1911-style safety and Glock-style trigger blade, are the biggest USP. Well that and the 15+1 capacity and the shaved down trigger guard.
In the Glock 20 vs Springfield XD-M war, it will probably come down to your personal allegiance. On paper, the Springfield has the edge with a number of match-grade components, including the barrel and trigger system.
It has a full-length guide rod recoil system and the Melonite coated slide looks like a custom aftermarket part. It’s thaty good, it’s that much better than the Glock and you know it’s a nicer slide to work with in the field.
That matters, a lot.
We will wait for the owner reviews on the Springfield XD-M before we call it a Glock killer, rather than a Glock rival. But make no mistake, this compact handgun from Springfield is one of the best.
14. Glock G40 MOS
- Price: $699.99
- Barrel: 6.02 inch
- Length: 9.49 inch
- Weight: 1.76lb
- Capacity: 15+1
The only reason the Glock G40 is down here is because the Glock G20 won the whole shooting match thanks to its versatility.
The Glock 40 is a more specialist tool. But if I lived in big bear world, was out handgun hunting and absolutely had to find food or face death, or I was just open carrying a 10mm cannon in a Jurassic Park style dinosaur island, Zombie Apocalypse or African plain, this is the Glock model I would want as a sidearm.
Now there are 300 Blackout AR pistols with plenty more punch, but they’re not always an option in the United States. Short of that, this Glock G40 is about as hardcore as handguns get.
Yes you can outpower the Glock G40 with a 454 Casull revolver or the legendary 45-70 Government Big Frame Revolver. But this gun comes with control, shot placement and magazine capacity in its favor. You can buy a new guide rod, slide kit or mag just about everywhere too.
Extended Magazine or 10 Rounds for State Laws
You can order your Glock G40 with a 15 round mag or state friendly 10 rounds. As for the optics, well the Glock Modular Optics System mount means you can go with a variety of RMRs or more extravagant options. A variety of red dots will slot straight on.
This is turning into a favorite handgun hunter and there are entire communities devoted to Glock hunting now, largely with the 10mm round.
15. Ruger SR1911 10mm
- Price: $819.99
- Caliber: 10mm Auto
- Barrel: 5”
- Total Length: 8.67”
- Weight: 2.52lb
- Capacity: 8+1 rounds
The Ruger SR1911 10mm is, in our humble opinion, the best value 1911 on the market. Note we say
In this caliber, it’s pretty much the same gun. It’s functional, rather than elegant, thanks to the contrasting black finish on the barrel and grip, but then it’s a totally solid 1911 that should be there when you need it most. Most of the gun is finished in brushed steel and the classic SR1911 is famously built to last.
The 5″ barrel on the Ruger SR1911 10mm means that it really isn’t for concealment. It’s heavy and the capacity is way down on the Glock with 10mm rounds. It’s an emotional choice, then, rather than a logical one.
That’s OK too.
It’s a clean cut gun and the contrasting black details, classic beavertail grip safety and fully adjustable rear sight might work for you.
If you’re a traditional 1911 kind of person and you can’t spend the Earth, then this is probably the 10mm pistol for sale that rocks your world. We get that.
16. Nighthawk Heinie
- Price: $3,899
- Caliber: 10mm Auto
- Barrel: 6 inch
- Total: 9.65 inch
- Weight: 2.5lb
Yes, the price is correct. This is simply what many people are prepared to pay for the perfect 1911. Nighthawk Custom Guns owners tend to have bespoke suits in the closet, a Porsche on the drive and a Rolex or Patek on their wrist.
This, then, is a long slide handgun for the 1% Even the firing pin is perfect.
Renowned pistol designer Richard Heinie is responsible for this Nighthawk gun and he was drawn to the caliber and long barrel. But he didn’t want the extra power for hunting. This was always about the longer sight radius and improved accuracy.
Of course, the end result is a handgun that actually works really well as a handgun for hunting. It is also a favorite among competition shooters, as well as eccentric billionaires.
You’re buying a narrative, R&D and the company’s commitment to excellence, as much as a handgun. For some it’s worth the extra money to know that no expense was spared and they have the best firearm one human being can reasonably create.
Well that, and for those that know their firearms it’s a conversation starter and a status symbol. Just like the watch on their wrist and the car on their drive.
Real value goes out the window at this point, we guess. And if your Nighthawk custom gun makes you feel awesome, then it was worth every single cent.
17. Sig Sauer 1911 TACOPS 10mm
- Price: $1049.99
- Caliber: 10mm Auto
- Barrel: 5″
- Total Length: 8.7″
- Weight: 2.6lb
- Capacity: 8+1
This is the elite special forces 1911 of choice, which I guess means it’s hanging on the hip of commanding officers in the field. To be honest, if a General has to pull his sidearm, shit has already gone very wrong and he probably only needs to use it on himself. But that’s going off on a tangent.
Taken on its own merit, this is a beautifully engineered 1911. It’s narrow, just 1.4″ wide, and the black-on-black wood grips are awesome. An ambidextrous safety, low-profile sights
A red dot or a weapons light, and a
You have to dig the stealth black, but we do, and we have a personal bias for Sig weapons that we’re not afraid to disclose. It’s a reliable, solid, Milspec chunk of 1911, right down to the firing pin.
But it happens to spit out the 10mm c
18. Kimber Stainless Target LS 10mm
- Price: $908.50
- Barrel: 6”
- Total Length: 9.7”
- Weight: 2.62lb
- Capacity: 8+1 rounds
You won’t often hear Kimber guns described as bargains, because they’re generally at the top of the price range. In this particular 10mm guns instance, though, we think Kimber gives you a gun that is 95% as good as some here for a third less money.
That makes this an absolute steal. And it’s basically all stainless, right down to the firing pin.
Yes, the Kimber Stainless Target only really compares to the Springfield TRP and others in that band. It’s a match grade
Awesome Accent Touches to Finish Gun
We love the polished ejection port, too, and even the fiber optic night sights are an accent touch on a clean, beautifully engineered, match shooter’s pistol. Even the curve of the trigger guard is borderline art thanks to its purity and simplicity.
It’s the best compromise between cost, functionality
The wood-effect polymer grips are a bit of a let-down compared to the perfect stainless steel finish, but you can order real wood and screw them on yourself. That turns the Kimber Stainless Target into an absolute work of wonder, or something.
There is no accessory rail. This is a clean looking gun with fiber optic sites that you can switch out for an RMR, but forget hanging lasers
The Leading 10mm AR Pistols Get an Honorable Mention
You have to basically love burning money to pack a 30-round mag full of 10mm and go plinking with it. But a 10mm AR pistol makes an awful lot of sense in some specific circumstances.
If you live in bear country, or you just want a kickass close quarters combat weapon, then this is an intriguing concept.
This is a niche market, but there are 10mm AR pistols out there for you and they include….
19 CMMG Banshee 300 MGKs
- Price: $1,683.99
- Barrel: 8 inch
- Total: 24.3 inch
- Weight: 5.56lb
The CMMG Banshee is one of the big launches of 2019-2020 and you can order one in all the major calibers and a few lesser ones too. The 10mm CMMG Banshee MGKs might be our favorite.
Is this semi-automatic pistol the spiritual successor of the 10mm Bren Ten that started it all with US Marine Jeff Cooper? Yes, it might really be.
This is a fairly straightforward AR set-up that CMMG has adapted into a whole new model line of short barrel rifles and AR pistols in a serious number of calibers.
Those calibers include the armor piercing and even more expensive 5.7×28. The math behind a range session with that gun gets pretty scary.
The 10mm AR pistol is plenty expensive enough to run, but it should offer a more robust offense than a 9mm alternative. You could hunt with it, you could do what you want with it. I mean, it’s yours…
Buy your CMMG Banshee semi-automatic pistol now.
20. Kriss Vector SDP Gen 2 Enhanced
- Price: $1645.00
- Barrel: 5.5″
- Total Length: 24.25″
- Weight: 5.9lb
- Capacity: 15+1 rounds
The Kriss Vector is an awesome looking piece of hardware, which is why it gets a starring role in so many movies.
The problem is that it really is a movie gun and isn’t quite so effective in the real world.
This version is an interesting application, though, and it does deal with the heavy recoil you find in the handguns.
Vector Can Accommodate Proper Sights
You can dress it up and replace the iron sights with a reflex sight, lasers
So there’s that.
Of course it hits the age-old problem. If you’re going to go with the legal SBR type pistol, then why not load up with AR-15 or 300BLK ammunition and ditch this entirely? Then you get 30-round clips and much more firepower. Also, we have a nice selection of 9mm pistol caliber carbines to consider here that are cheaper to run.
When it gets into this size bracket, the 10mm round loses its competitive advantage. Still, if you just want a KRISS, then this is a unique option. It’s all the way down here, but on pure merit it’s one of the best.
And the 10mm revolvers…
10mm ammunition really wasn’t designed with revolvers in mind, and it’s kind of going against the grain to shoot with one. Both the .357 Magnum and 44 Magnum are perfectly capable, fall either side of this caliber in terms of power and cost significantly less.
The main benefit is capacity. You can jam lots of them in a high capacity magazine, but as soon as you build a wheel gun then you throw that advantage out the window and you’re back to a six shooter.
So a 10mm revolver only makes sense if you have an absolute aversion to semi auto guns, insist on a wheelgun and yet also have an aversion to the ammunition that made the wheelgun famous. If that’s you, you’re a pretty weird guy…
It also makes sense as a competition shooter, or because collectors want a complete range of calibers. Whatever the reason, we’re starting to see more wheel guns. Here are the best.
21. Smith and Wesson 610
- Price: $852.00
- Barrel: 6 inch
- Weight: 3lb
Smith & Wesson is the undisputed champion of the revolver world and now it has given us a 10mm auto revolver, the Smith and Wesson 610, which could at least give everything on this list pause for thought.
This is a classic
You’ll get more muzzle energy from the 44 Magnum revolver, but this is still going to be the benchmark in the 10mm revolver world for a while.
22. Ruger GP100 Match Champion 10mm
- Price: $800.80
- Barrel: 4.2″
- Total Length: 8″
- Weight: 2.31
- Capacity: 6 rounds
This is a specific gun for a class in competitive
But if you have a collection and just want something else, then a 10mm revolver certainly will do that job and this is a good one with a nice front sight. That’s about all there is to say.
23. Ruger Super Redhawk
- Price: $949.30
- Barrel: 6.5 inch
- Overall Length:
- Weight: 3.4lb

Like S&W, Ruger has already done the math for
The company is a star in the heavy hitting revolver world. So as long as there is any demand, for the best 10mm handguns, it probably makes economic sense to drill some drums for rimless 10mm Auto.
There are no real surprises with the big boy of the Ruger line up. It still looks awkward, and unique, and it’s still a supremely accurate
Ruger makes some great pistols, handguns and revolvers. But the revolvers in particular have developed a cult following. There’s a reason…

This was one of the most well-balanced articles on available 10mm handguns that I have seen. You admit your favorites and your prejudices, but every handgun got a fair shake relative to its quality, value, and strengths / weaknesses. I would like to see you do this again some time, including an EAA Witness and the new Springfield XDM. Thanks, Nick–really well thought through and well written.
Thanks kindly, we try and be as transparent as possible! I will get to your suggestions asap!
eaa is the best gun maker ive ever seen.
I love all the different gun reviews, I actually have four of the 10mm listed. And love them all, it goes hand in hand with the 11 different 41 magnums that I own. Please keep up the good and honest reviews
Thank you, we try! And we’re incorporating feedback from you guys all the time. So as an owner, let me know if you’d have done this list differently. They’re so subjective that we like to hear other people’s opinions too!
Great article that was comprehensive yet succinct. Not an easy accomplishment. Kudos.
I do have one clarification though, in regards to the TRP:
“It’s one of the best 10mm pistols for non-professional, all round shooters and hunters.”
By “non-professional”, may we take that to mean it’s not a “competition” level pistol? And why?
If that’s the case, then that would probably be a good thing for those looking for something that will stay reliable under rugged conditions for an extended time? Ridiculously tight tolerances vs field tolerances and that sort of thing.
I’m looking for a SHTF 6″ 10mm and this is on the short list. I know many would recommend the G40, but under such circumstances, the quality of ammo one might be forced to use could be highly suspect. And every Kaboom I’ve read about from a 1911 type firearm leaves a (at least generally) functional firearm in it’s wake.
Not so much with Glocks.
Is the TRP the ticket?
Yes, that’s kind of what I was getting at, and could probably have worded it better. It’s a great gun, with custom tolerances and proper matching etc, but it’s an all-rounder with durability in mind. Not the nth degree of competition performance, and the rebuilds that go with it. So yes, I think it is.
Thanks for the kind words and I might revisit that part for a clarification!
Also it pretty much is competition grade, although you could argue it’s not tailored to that crowd. By definition, with the accessory rail and the fact it hasn’t been shaved down in weight, it’s an all-rounder rather than an absolute specialist.
But for your purposes, those ‘weaknesses’ are actually strengths.
Thank you for the clarification and expounding on it. Rugged AND competition grade… what’s not to love? Heck, for all it’s tank-like appearances, it’s on par with the Bruin (2.8 lbs vs 2.75 lbs) and even LESS than the Kodiak (2.95 lbs). And I must confess, I am COMPLETELY sold on those Dirty Olive grips.
Anyway, thanks for both confirming and pointing out some things that will likely lead to my next purchase!
As an aside, I own both the G20 and Delta Elite. I don’t exactly remember what all I put through the Glock, but when I first got it I ran it hard and hot. No issues. I’ve stopped using it the last couple of years to conserve trade value. In the Delta, I incrementally pushed hotter and hotter ammo, always checking for bulges. The most recent was Buffalo Bore Heavy 10MM Outdoorsman – 220 gr. Hard Cast – FN
(1,200 fps/ME 703 ft. lbs.), with ZERO bulging.
I believe the KABOOM factor with these two models is entirely overstated. With decent ammo, they are champions. That said, I also believe they MUST be run with decent ammo, as they leave little room for error (weak brass, overcharge, etc.). I would trust my life to either of these for EDC using quality ammo. It’s the extenuating circumstances that worry me, where one might be forced to use less than top quality ammo. Under those circumstances, I would NOT trust my life to either of these.
I would add to your list the Iver Johnson New Eagle XL, it’s a potted, 6” inch barrel 1911.
Yes you’re absolutely right. I’m going through making additions to a lot of posts now, that is on my chaotic mental list 🙂 Thanks for mentioning it and I hope you like the rest of the post!
*ported. Stupid autocorrect.
Sig P220 10mm
Barrel length 5 inches
Overall length 8.8 inches
Weight 2.75 lbs.
The stats you have listed are for the .45 cal.
I own an EAA P witness and a 6.5″ S&W M610. I like them both. But the revolver I can load it up to shoot like
an 41 mag for Elk hunting. Hard to put that much feet per second thru an semi auto. My 10mm semi is for target
shooting & self defense against the 4 legged. The 10mm hurts a lot less that my 500 S&W mag. Lighter to carry also.
Enjoyed the article, would be interested what if anything would change if you were to re-write it now in 2021. I have put off owning a 10mm for a long time, probably due to shooting one of the original Colt Delta Elites with the original Norma ammo prior to Colt putting the beavertail grip safety on. Since then I have fired more Glock 20’s than any other model of 10mm pistol, I am a big fan of Glock and am a certified armorer, but that doesn’t stop me from owning other makes. Recently purchased a Springfield XDM 10mm OSP and this has to be the softest shooting 10mm I have fired to date and fits my hand better than the Glocks, I did just finish a P80 frame with Glock parts and enjoy it almost as well. Just my $.02. Would also like to see what you would think of the Rock Island ROCK ULTRA FS HC 10mm with 16 rds. and 1911 styling this might be hard for me to pass up.
It’s definitely due an update and I’m a fan of Rock Island products. They always punch above their weight. I might revisit this shortly, thanks for the push!
