The Guns of Resident Evil 2026: Every Weapon Identified

Quick Answer: There are four Resident Evil 2026 guns. Bryan, the courier hero of Zach Cregger’s film, fights through Raccoon City with three of them, climbing the same pistol, shotgun, machine gun ladder the games use: a Beretta 92FS taken from a dead sheriff’s deputy, an old exposed-hammer double-barrel 12 gauge off a mantel, and an HK MP5A3 from a gun case in an Umbrella car.

The fourth gun, a Laugo Arms Alien, belongs to an Umbrella security operative and runs empty before he finds it.

A Resident Evil Film That Makes You Count Bullets

Most lists of Resident Evil movie guns cover the Milla Jovovich films, which were action movies with ammunition to burn. Cregger’s reboot treats bullets the way Capcom’s 1996 game did, as the scarcest thing you own. He said so in a Reddit AMA before release: “You will know how many bullets are in his gun. YOU will care when he misses a shot.”

I played the original as a kid, and what I remember most is counting every handgun round and hoarding ink ribbons. So I went in hoping he meant it.

And he did. Austin Abrams plays Bryan Hodukavich, a medical courier with no business in a gunfight, and he goes through the whole film on a single pistol magazine without ever reloading it. The film keeps count for you.

Cregger described the plan to Gold Derby as “starting with a pistol and having to keep track of how many bullets you have”, then working up to a shotgun and finally a machine gun. Anyone who played the originals will recognize that ladder instantly.

It worked. The film opened to $60 million domestically, sits at 96% with critics, and earned a B+ CinemaScore, the best grade a Resident Evil film has ever received. Here’s every gun in it, and what each one costs if you want the real thing.

1. Beretta 92FS: The Deputy’s Pistol

Bryan’s first gun is a Beretta 92FS, the service pistol of Sheriff’s Deputy Wilson, who dies when his cruiser crashes. The Resident Evil Beretta has been the series’ starting pistol since Capcom’s 1996 original.

In that game, the standard S.T.A.R.S. sidearm is a Beretta 92, and the series’ famous Samurai Edge is a customized Beretta 92F. Most players met their first zombie with this pistol. The film just gives it to a deputy instead of a special forces team.

Then comes the best gun moment in the movie. Bryan points the pistol, pulls, and nothing happens. The remastered frame above shows why: the safety is still on. Slate describes him “still fiddling with the safety on his pistol as a snarling zombie comes bearing down on him.”

That’s a real trap on this pistol, and the film deserves credit for it. The 92FS lever is a combined safety and decocker, and it sits on the slide, not the frame. Pushed down, it blocks the firing pin, drops the hammer and disconnects the trigger.

You can squeeze all you like. Somebody who’s never handled one has no reason to look at the slide for a safety, because most modern pistols don’t have one there. If you ever pick up a 92, the lever has to be up before it’ll fire. I’ve shot 92s for years, and after a session with a Glock I still catch my thumb hunting for the wrong lever.

Bryan’s next mistake is just as honest. Slate notes him “wasting bullets like a noob as he tries to shoot through padlocks rather than hunting for the key.” Shooting a lock off looks easy in films. In real life it’s a good way to catch fragments at close range.

The 92FS is still in production and it’s one of the best-value full-size 9mms you can buy. It’s soft to shoot, reliable with the slide cut open, and on the day we checked the card above had it from about $640.

2. The Hammer Double-Barrel Shotgun Over the Mantel

In a house he breaks into, Bryan finds a side-by-side 12 gauge with exposed hammers hanging on the wall above the fireplace. That’s the second nod to the games. TheWrap points out the gun “being mounted atop the mantle,” and the ammunition he finds for it comes in a green box of shells branded “Heavy Field”, styled after the ammo boxes in Resident Evil 2 and 4.

It’s also where the film changes the source. The only shotgun in the 1996 game is a Remington 870 pump, and taking it off its wall rack springs a booby trap. The film swaps the pump for a hammer double, which suits a family fireplace far better, and makes Bryan’s problem worse.

The gun is unloaded. He can’t get shells into it without spraying them across the floor, and a double only ever holds two.

IMFDB lists it as a 12 gauge double, and its reference photo is a J. Stevens & Co. hammer double from around 1878, designed for black powder shells. That part matters if you own something like it. A gun that old was built for black powder, and many have Damascus barrels, so modern smokeless shells can be too much for it.

Have a gunsmith inspect a family heirloom before you load it with anything from a box you bought this year. The first time I shot a hammer double, I forgot to cock the second hammer and pulled a dead trigger, so Bryan’s fumbling looked very familiar.

You don’t need an antique to own the look. Cimarron’s 1878 Coach Gun is a new side-by-side with exposed hammers and short barrels, rated for modern 3-inch shells, and it costs roughly what a good pump does.

3. HK MP5A3: The Machine Gun From the Umbrella Car

After a group of Umbrella scientists picks him up, Bryan finds a Heckler & Koch MP5A3 in a weapons case in the back seat and carries it through the rest of Raccoon City. It’s the third rung of the ladder, exactly as Cregger planned it.

MovieWeb reads the black gun case as a nod to the game’s inventory system, and the film even color-codes ammunition the way the games do, red boxes for the handgun and blue for the machine gun.

The MP5 is the right gun for an Umbrella car. In the games’ lore it was the weapon of choice for the Raccoon City S.W.A.T. team and the Umbrella Security Service, and it first became playable in Resident Evil 0. The film’s version has the wide “tropical” handguard, which the remaster above shows cleanly.

Civilians can’t buy a new select-fire MP5, but HK sells the SP5, a semi-auto pistol built on the same roller-delayed action, for about three thousand dollars. I’ve put a few hundred rounds through an SP5, and the action is every bit as soft as its reputation.

4. Laugo Arms Alien: Maxine’s Pistol

The one gun Bryan never fires is a Laugo Arms Alien. Spoiler: it belongs to Maxine, played by Kali Reis, an Umbrella security operative, and when he finally finds her she’s dead with the pistol empty beside her.

IMFDB identifies it as what appears to be an Alien, and if you know guns it’s a smart bit of design. It’s one of the most futuristic-looking production handguns in the world, and it’s carried by the one company in the story with a lab full of monsters.

The Alien is a real Czech pistol, launched at IWA OutdoorClassics in 2019. It uses a fixed barrel, a gas-delayed action and an internal slide, which lets the barrel sit unusually low over your hand. That low bore axis means less muzzle flip, so it shoots remarkably flat for a 9mm.

Laugo Arms USA has handled U.S. sales since January 2023. I got a few magazines through one at a range day, and the flat recoil is real. The price is the only part that kicks.

It’s also nearly five thousand dollars, which is why Maxine carries it and Bryan doesn’t. How the Last Bullet Gets Used

Bryan’s last pistol round goes into a mop, not a monster. Ending spoiler: the pistol count pays off at the end. The film never lets Bryan reload the Beretta, and his last pistol round doesn’t go into a monster. He uses it to “shoot the mop that’s been holding the door behind him shut.” After an hour of counting shots with him, that’s a better payoff than any headshot.

Which Resident Evil Gun Should You Buy?

Of the Resident Evil 2026 guns, the Beretta 92FS is the one to buy. It’s the gun the whole franchise started with, it runs under $700, and it’s a genuinely good first 9mm once you learn where the safety lives. Add the Cimarron coach gun if you want the mantel shotgun, and you’ve got both of Bryan’s first two guns for under fifteen hundred dollars.

The MP5 is the one fans really want. If you can stretch to it, the SP5 is the real HK, and the Zenith is the smart-money version. The Laugo Alien is for collectors only.
