Beretta 1301 Competition Pro Shotgun
- Price: $1,629.99
- Barrel: 21 inch
- Weight: 6.7lb
- Capacity: 5+1
If you’re into 3 Gun competition, or you just want a general purpose hunting and home defense shotgun in the classic mold, then take a good look at this chunky and totally overlooked Beretta.
It’s a tactical shotgun that can win competitions right out the box, or you can tune it.
The Beretta 1301 comes with a 18.5-inch or 21-inch barrel, which is made from cold hammer-forged steel for increased durability and accuracy.
The 1301 uses Beretta’s Blink gas system, which is designed to cycle quickly and reliably with a variety of loads. Now the gas system also reduces felt recoil, making it easier to shoot for extended periods of time and just more comfortable all round.
You get a 5+1 round capacity, which is solid. You can get a 7+1 extension tube as an aftermarket add on.
Solid Rep For Reliability and Accuracy
The Beretta is reliable and the 21-inch barrel is pretty much the sweet spot when it comes to accuracy without sacrificing flexibility. You can order a 24” barrel with a premium price, but this seems to be ‘right’ for us.
It weighs in at 6.7lb and you get a short stock that is patterned for grip. It’s polymer, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing and affords a sure grip.
The 1301 synthetic stock is designed for ergonomic comfort and control. It also has an adjustable length of pull and Kick Off Recoil system that consists of elastomer dampers and recoil springs within the buttstock.
A third elastomer damper sits in the stock bolt and reduces the force of the slide on the stock. .
Basic Competition Custom Gun Mods Are in Place
It comes with an oversized charging handle, a reversible safety and a large bolt release. You can handle the gun in gloves, in the field, and you shouldn’t have to make allowances for your gun.
The Blink gas operating system cycles 36% faster than a normal shotgun. It’s one of the fastest cycling shotguns out there and can discharge four shells in less than a second in skilled hands.
There are no real murmurs of feed failures or any issues and it’s essentially built round a rotating bolt that Benelli also relies on.
Interchangeable Chokes On Comp Gun, Fixed on Tactical
You get Optima HP interchangeable chokes with a mid-bead, front fiber optic sight and a stepped rib. The barrel is Beretta’s own blend of Steelium, an advanced alloy that gives you durability and functionality.
It’s 41” in total, so this is a hefty weapon and if you want something truly aimed at home defense then you might want a shorter shotgun like the Kel Tec KSG. Alternatively, you might want an over and under if all you do is hunt game.
A Shotgun For All Seasons?
But if you want a catch-all shotgun that can deal with 3 Gun competition, spend all day blasting shells in the field and never, ever let you down, then the Beretta is an alternative to the more expensive Benellis and it comes with its own ballistic reputation.
Military and police around the world have adopted the Beretta 1301 Tactical. But the competition version is a great choice for 3-Gun competition, practical shooting or just for a one-size fits all shotgun that can do everything well.
The Best Semi Auto Shotguns?
We have covered semi-automatic tactical shotguns in depth and we included a good few 3 Gun shotguns in our winners. We like them. 3 Gun firearms are accurate, cycle quickly and generally don’t jam.
We also have some other eccentric choices from the world of box mag fed shotguns and the likes of the Tavor TS-12, which remains one of our favorite high capacity shotguns.
