Dick’s Sporting Goods Destroys $5 Million of Guns

Dick's Sporting Goods has destroyed $5 million worth of military style AR-15 rifles. Will it do the same with recreational boating and winter sports?

Dick’s Sporting Goods has continued its left leaning virtue signal, proudly boasting that it has destroyed $5 million worth of ‘military style semi automatic rifles’

(I know, my eyes are bleeding as I type this shit.)

The company is removing all AR-15s, and needlessly destroying them. Now it is considering pulling all guns from its stores. So we guess tens of millions of dollars worth of guns will be destroyed.

I mean they could return their guns for sale to the point of sale, presumably in the original packaging, but that wouldn’t be nearly so flamboyant. It’s clearly part of a charm offensive and Dick’s Sporting Goods has decided that the anti 2nd Amendment crowd are worth more than the firearms enthusiasts.

Springfield Armory, for one, was not too impressed.

Buy Guns Online Now

Beto O’Rourke said it, Elizabeth Warren said it and there isn’t much doubt anymore. The Left is coming for your guns. So you know, you could buy them now and then go have a boating accident…

Are Guns Good Business For Dick’s?

As with Colt, which recently decided to pull out of the AR-15 market due to falling sales, Dick’s Sporting Goods was hardly competitive. The prices weren’t spectacular, the stores weren’t particularly well-stocked, and online gun retailers and gun price pickers, like us, have certainly left the company long behind.

So this could just be salvaging some PR points from a failiing division. I like to think that’s what it is.

The fact that chief executive Edward W Stack is now on tour promoting his new book kind of points in this direction. The book is called ‘It’s How We Play The Game.’

Is Dick’s Just Virtue Signalling?

I haven’t read it, but I’m prepared to place a small bet that it’s all about ethics and gun control support is going to feature pretty heavily in what amounts to a giant ad campaign.

“So many people say to me, you know, ‘If we do what you want to do, it’s not going to stop these mass shootings,’” Dick’s Sporting Goods Chief Executive Mr. Edward W. Stack told CBS. “And my response is: ‘You’re probably right. It won’t. But if we do these things and it saves one life, don’t you think it’s worth it?’”

You could certainly make that case.

Here’s the problem.

What Other Sports Kill People?

Dick’s Sporting Goods store also sells, you know, sporting goods. And let’s take a little look at the figures here:

  • 10 people died every day from accidental drowning in 2017.
  • 701 people died in North American recreational boating accidents in 2016.
  • 783 cyclists died in 2017 on American roads.
  • Winter sports? Don’t get us started…

Now these are smaller numbers, but the point remains. Dick’s Sporting Goods could save a single life by refusing to stock any of this stuff. Just close the store if you’re going that route because there’s pretty much something in any store that can kill you.

Dick’s Sporting Goods sells climbing gear, there’s literally a department for it on the website. Mountains don’t kill people, people can understand that, but people do die on mountains. And if you can just save one life…

What About Failing to Arm a Citizen?

If we were being real dicks about it (see what we did there) we could also point to Dick’s Sporting Goods failure to arm a law abiding citizen that was mugged and killed on his way home. I mean it’s a lie, and I need to speak to Jussie Smollett to really flesh out the details, but I think we can come up with something.

Get Woke, Go Broke? Or Not…

The company looked to be heading down the ‘Get Woke, Go Broke’ road, when it lost a quarter of a billion dollars in the period following the gun control announcement. Sales have picked up, but only time will tell if this is a smart strategy or if Dick’s Sporting Goods just ‘did a Gillette’.

But they’re all pushing gun control. So buy guns online before that happens. Possession is 9/10ths of the law after all. More if what you possess is actually an AR-15.

While you’re here, why not buy an AR-15 online? We don’t sell guns online ourselves. We have a series of partners and we just find the best prices for guns from the best online gunbrokers.

We constantly scan the likes of Brownells, Rainier Arms, Euro Optic, Guns.com and Cabelas to give you the best prices on the best guns for sale in 2019.

We constantly rank the new guns and we listen to your feedback. If you tell us we’re being a horse’s ass with our number one pick, with good reasons, we change it up.

If you just call us a Ruger/Smith & Wesson/A N Other shill, we probably won’t…

But here are our picks for various price bands, which could save you a lot of time when you buy an AR-15 online.
