The CZ Scorpion Evo 3 S1 is a perennial bargain firearm that punches well above its weight. This is a semi-auto pistol that can go head to head with the very best in the 9mm SMG sector and come out on top more often than not.
For the money, this could be the best civilian sub-machine gun in the world. Armed forces that don’t want to spend big money on a HK SP5 often take the selective fire full auto version into war and it’s a perfect close quarters combat weapon.
Critically, it also seems perfectly balanced and natural without a brace, and there is no real buffer tube. So that seems to be playing into its hands with the impending new brace regs.
This semi-auto pistol should be safe from any ATF shenanigans because it really is set up to use without too many add ons apart from red dots. But that doesn’t stop some folks going to town on theirs. Like this…
Psychological Impact is a Thing
You just cannot deny the psychological impact of the CZ Scorpion Evo 9mm PCC either.
This 9mm semi-automatic pistol looks evil, especialy with a red dot and a weapons light
It looks like the kind of weapon the bad guy in a sci-fi movie would pack. And often does, with select fire of course. Semi auto carbines just don’t cut it in the movies.
CZ Evo Scorpion: Ugly, But Effective
There is nothing pretty about this gun.
If it was a person it would have facial scars, cauliflower ears and that look that says you really don’t want to go.
It’s 16 inches long and don’t let anybody tell you otherwise: size does matter.
You get 20 bullets in the proprietary mag and another in the chamber, which is enough to deal with most threats. You can also get a 10-round mag for States that suck.
It weighs just 5lb, too, so you can easily move around with this gun and it’s small enough that you won’t get snagged in your own home.
This pistol-caliber carbine has set the buff books alight with its accessibility and ease of operation.
They also like the plastic, sorry, fiber-reinforced polymer, construction.
The trigger pack and barrel are metal, but the outer shell, grip and magazine assembly are all polymer.
That saves weight and money, as well as protecting the guts with a shock absorbent polymer case.. In the end, this is an awful lot of gun for the money.
So if you’re looking to buy guns online then really think about the CZ Scorpion 9mm pistol.
Get A Grip
You get Picatinny Rails all over the thing, so if you lose your grip then you really need to take a look at yourself.
You also get a threaded 7-inch barrel on these semi-automatic Pistol Caliber Carbines and you can see influences from the AR pistol and MP5 all over it.
But then that’s no bad thing.
We really like this gun just on the looks alone. The fact that it’s a great performer is the clincher.
So if you’re looking for a pistol caliber carbine then take a long look at the CZ Scorpion. because it really does have a sting in the tale.
You Want a Smaller Scorpion? OK Then
CZ Scorpion Evo 3 Plus Micro S2
- Price: $1,288.99
- Barrel Length: 4.2 inch
- Weight: 4.7lb
- Capacity: 20 rounds
The smaller 9mm pistol is an evolution of the classic Scorpion and also a clear response to the Sig Sauer Copperhead and other compact 9mm carbines. It’s also discontinued, so it didn’t really work, but you can still buy them.
The original semi-automatic Evo is still the best, but this Micro 9mm is an option.
Upgraded ergonomics, an ambidextrous mag release, side charging handle and bolt catch, better sights and more go in to this next generation gun. But it isn’t a replacement for the polymer frame original. We’re not sure anything could be.
But this gets a 4.2 inch cold hammer forged barrel and it is an absolute close quarters combat monster and that makes it a great choice for personal defense. Especially with a solid red dot sight on the rail.
With red dots, a high capacity magazine and possibly a stabilizing brace, this 9mm semi-auto pistol is a great choice for self-defense. There are plenty of other centerfire pistols chambered in 9mm Luger that you can choose from, of course.
The Sig Sauer Copperhead is brilliant, but there are also budget options like the Foxtrot Mike FM-9, Angstadt Arms and the B&T GHM9 to consider.
Gun Parts & Accessories
Our favorite online stores for parts, upgrades and accessories include Palmetto State Armory, Brownells, Primary Arms. Palmetto State Armory in particular has emerged as a great place to buy a charging handle, a red dot, high capacity magazines or a new cold hammer forged threaded barrel for your personal defense tool.
What About a 9mm Rifle?
There’s a centerfire rifle version of the CZ, too, and it is really good.
CZ Evo 3 Rifle
- Price: $1,360
- Barrel Length: 16 inch
- Weight: 6.6lb
This is our best 9mm rifle and has been for a good long while..
These 9mm centerfire rifles are gaining popularity as 9mm tends not to overpenetrate and it’s also cheap enough for target practice.
So if you want your centerfire rifles for lethal defense, or plinking, these 9mm options make a lot of sense.
With red dot sights up top, this rifle is an absolute unit. Don’t sleep on 9mm when it comes with a longer barrel.
If you have Pistol Caliber Carbines/Semi auto rifles/limited editions like this in your gun safes, you’re going to be fine…
