25 Best 45 1911 Pistols Under $1000 – Dec 2022

Springfield Armory Mil Spec 1911

Update: Almost everything is sold out, everywhere, thanks to Covid 19, riots, all that stuff. So the best we can really do for you right now is to show you what’s in stock, now, with these live links.

If you need a gun right now, start here.

The Best 1911 Under $1000 – 45 ACP Auto

They’re expensive, they’re heavy and they do like a clean, but we just don’t care. A great 1911 is a work of art, a thing of beauty, and we love them.

They’re just a part of American history and they’re deeply satisfying things to hold in your hand. The action, the brutality, the engineering. The smell of gun oil. Don’t say you don’t get it too…

But you can easily spend a fortune on a great 1911 and eventually you have to get into diminishing returns. So what is the best 1911 you can buy for less than $1000? Or, considering the current stock shortages, hyperinflation and more, slightly more than $1,000 in some cases…

We have stuck with 45 ACP weapons here, because that’s why a lot of people opt to carry a 1911 in the first place and it makes the list simpler. We have gone for different size guns, though, for variety. We’re weird like that…

Here are our contenders for the best 45 ACP 1911 in the world..

The Kimber Custom TLE II is a great pistol for just about $1000. Get yours here.

1. Kimber Custom TLE II

  • Price: $929.00
  • Barrel: 5 inch
  • Total: 8.5 inch
  • Weight: 2.5lb
  • Capacity: 7+1

If you want a pure battle pistol, then the Kimber Custom TLE/RL II is the best gun here.

This is the standard issue 45 ACP 1911 that the LAPD SWAT team have on their hip, kind of, although it is one of a list of approved firearms for actual duty purposes.

Competition Upgrades Work For Everyone

You get a Government model, match-grade barrel and bushing, a full length steel guide rod and hi viz Tritium 3 dot night sights. There’s a Picatinny rail underneath for a weapons light.

Now you also feel the steady input of the LAPD’s finest response team. Kimber has tuned the trigger set-up, magwell and all the little details that make the difference when it matters after feedback from the best.

You and me can buy the fruits of their labor and, at less than $1000, you won’t find a finer pistol for home defense.

Kimber don’t just make pistols, revolvers are now their bag too. Check them out here.

Colt Series 70 Government pistol. A great starter 1911 for $1000 that will make sure you shoot straight and true.

2. Colt Series 70 Government

  • Price: $971.99
  • Barrel: 5 inch
  • Weight: 2.5lb

This is the genre defining Colt Series 70 M1911. It’s the one that started it all.

We could just have squeezed you into a competition pistol for the $1000, but this is a purer experience. It’s a classic tribute to the standard issue Colt Government M1911 models that were handed out to servicemen and law enforcement alike.

So nothing is really skeletonized and this is as basic a 1911 as you’ll see. But this is tried and trusted tech refined over a century, produced by the OG of the 1911 world. What’s not to love here with this Series 70 Colt Government?

Springfield Armory 1911 Loaded. A great value pistol for around $1000. Get yours today.

3. Springfield Armory 1911 Loaded

  • Price: $939.99
  • Barrel: 5 inch
  • Total: 8.6 inch
  • Weight: 2.5lb
  • Capacity: 7+1

The Springfield Armory 1911 Loaded is certainly one of the best pistols for the money and there are people reading this right now that can’t believe it lost to a Kimber.

You might be right. On another day this match-grade Springfield Loaded 1911 could easily have taken the honors. It’s arguably a better all-rounder, but when margins get this tight it really depends on your brand loyalty and personal feel.

Well Equipped Pistol For the Money

There’s an Armory Kote forged steel frame and the finishing touches include a skeletonized trigger and hammer. Low profile combat sights are part of the package, but we would upgrade those with night sights.

But this is a real solid 1911 under $1000, in normal times anyway, and you could happily shoot this for years to come.

You can go even cheaper with the Springfield Mil-Spec, which stars on our list of cheap 1911 pistols. That Springfield Mil Spec is a mighty compelling package when it’s down around $500. But when th price difference is less than $250, get this one.

Kimber Ultra Carry II for sale. A great 1911 that is easy to carry concealed. Buy yours here.

4. Kimber Ultra Carry II

  • Price: $779.99
  • Barrel: 3″
  • Total Length: 7″
  • Weight: 1.56lb
  • Capacity: 7+1 Rounds

There are very few concealed carry 45 1911 pistols we would recommend. The Kimber Ultra Carry is one of them.

Ideally you want the Custom Defense Package, which means the gun came off the production line and went into the hands of one of Kimber’s legendary gunsmiths at the custom shop. But that gets expensive and we’re on a budget here…

So take a look at the two tone Ultra Carry, or the iconic Kimber Raptor. In fact you get a wide variety of different finishes and looks. So check here for the full line of small Kimber handguns.

Smith & Wesson 1911E. A great 1911 pistol for less than $1000. This is the top of the line SW1911, before you get to the awesome Performance Center guns.

5. Smith & Wesson SW1911 E Series

  • Price: $1,029.99
  • Barrel: 5″
  • Total Length: 8.7″
  • Weight: 2.5lb
  • Capacity: 8+1 Rounds

This is a beautiful looking gun . We love the matte black finish or the stainless, the slide work and the 5 inch barrel. It’s all perfect, and it’s all yours for slightly more than $1,000.

The glass bead engraving on the Smith & Wesson steel slide is pretty special. The hammer and trigger are skeletonized, the whole gun weighs in at a respectable 2.43lb and you get 8+1 when it comes to capacity.

The Deluxe Version of the SW1911

The Smith & Wesson SW1911E is the premium production line 1911. It slots in well above the entry level gun, but well below the S&W Performance Center limited edition guns that star in our best 1911s under $2000 post.

In this price range, though, this is the gun that flies the flag for Smith and Wesson with checkered wood grips and solid finishing touches from the 1911 parts bin. Is it good enough to hang with the best guns here? Kind of, yeah…

Rock Island BBR 3.10. A great 45 CCW pistol that is easy to conceal and carry anywhere. The new breed of concealed subcompact 1911.

6. Rock Island Armory BBR 3.10

  • Price: $605.99
  • Barrel: 3.1″
  • Total Length: 6.8″
  • Weight: 2lb
  • Capacity: 10+1 Rounds

Rock Island has put another cat amongst the pigeons with this truly exceptional 45 ACP sub-compact 1911 on a budget.

It’s cheap, but every Rock Island is cheap. The real kicker here is the double stack magazine capacity. This gun holds 10+1 rounds of 45 ACP.

That’s freaking amazing high capacity and might make you rethink the whole I’ll never own a Rock Island thing…

This has about as small a footprint as you can get in a subcompact 1911 that still actually works in the palm of your hand. And Rock Island has gone for it with the double stack magazine. If it was any other marque, you’d already be buying it. You should…

Simple rubber grips, a black parkerized steel slide and a 2lb weight are all great. But it’s the price and legendary capacity that marks the Rock Island BBR 3.1 apart. These have the potential to be great guns.

Colt 1911 Competition now comes with a blued finish that keeps the costs down to almost $1000. Get yours today.

7. Colt 1911 Competition

  • Price: $1,006.99
  • Barrel: 5″
  • Total Length: 8.5″
  • Weight: 2.25lb
  • Capacity: 8+1 Rounds

I’m still kind of shocked to find a full match-grade Colt competition pistol for $1000. In a good way…

That’s because all the things that make the Colt a great target pistol make it awesome everywhere else. I’d sleep easier knowing this hunk of competition spec 1911 is nestled in a gun vault by the bed. The G10 grips, the drilled trigger, the high beavertail. It all works.

If you’re a 1911 fanatic then you probably had your eye on one of these anyway. Treat yourself and see what 80 years of glacial progress feels like.

Custom Gun Touches, Off The Shelf

Like John Wick, we’re partial to a competition gun because the basic mods are exactly what you would look for in a custom 1911.

Lighter slides, night sights, flared magwells. All that stuff. That’s what you do to a gun. So if Colt has already done the hard yards to create a match-grade pistol that can go straight on to defensive duties, that’s a good thing.

Adjustable Novak sights sit up top and Colt has obsessively engineered the weight out of the gun to come up with a lightweight 1911 that is about half a pound lighter than you’d expect.

Flat Shooter Offers Repeatability, Consistency and Security

The dual recoil springs help keep the gun flat and combat muzzle climb better than any slide porting ever could.

A cold hammer forged barrel is national match grade, which is all you’ll ever need in a defensive situation. Basically, the competition mods are minor, and things that help more or less everywhere.

Go into 3 Gun competition and you will upgrade to the Trophy before long. If you just want a cool Colt 1911, and you’re on a budget, this Colt Competition could be the one.

A Stylish Blued Finish

Unlike the stainless competition pistols, that have crept up well beyond this price range, the blued gun is all business, and we like it.

G10 checkered grips complete the look and an epic, epic gun. At this price, you simply won’t find a better shooting 1911.

We know the Gold Cup Trophy won our 1911s under $2000 post, and this one came very close. This is about as much 1911 as you can reasonably expect for $1,000. If it’s your winner, we can see your point too.

Ruger 1911 Commander Style pistol on sale for about $900. Get yours today and buy guns online for the best prices here.

8. Ruger SR1911 Commander

  • Price: $928.99
  • Barrel: 4.25″
  • Total Length: 8″
  • Weight: 2.27lb
  • Capacity: 7+1 Rounds

The Ruger SR1911 is one of the best in history and you simply have to own one once in your life. It isn’t a clever 1911, it’s just a beautiful one that does everything well.

Like several others here, the Ruger SR1911 Commander Style comes with a few choice mods for basic concealed carry duties. It is also a great price.

Ruger SR1911 is an Iconic .45 ACP Auto

It’s long and heavy, but this is a proper 1911 for the range. It is also a landmark gun, even in basic form.

You owe it to yourself to have one. You can pick up a simpler Ruger SR1911 cheaper than this. But the Target is almost a Ruger custom gun.

It’s a major step up for not much money, and it might set you on your way towards the seriously expensive Ruger 1911s with Koenig parts that are seriously taking the fight to Colt in the 1911s under $2000 category.

Colt Defender is one of the great 1911 pistols in this world

9. Colt Defender

  • Price: $1,067.99
  • Barrel: 4.2 inch
  • Overall length: 7.7 inch
  • Weight: 2.43lb

The Defender was the first sub-compact 1911 and it is still arguably the best from a purist’s perspective.

But the Defender really is the original subcompact 1911. Colt made it work when others failed, and the Colt remains the last word in reliability when it comes to a concealed 1911.

There are some quality limited edition pistols, including the Colt Combat Elite Defender that we just love. For about $1000, though, look for the blued gun with Rosewood grips that is an absolute design icon to this day.

Ruger Target Long Slide. A 1911 with a 6 inch barrel, chambered in 45 ACP. Get yours and the best 45ACP 1911s here.

10. Kimber Target Long Slide

  • Price: $999.99
  • Barrel: 6 inch
  • Total: 2.63lb
  • Capacity: 7+1

An extra inch is a lot you know, especially when it comes to the barrel on your gun. So the Long Slide Kimber with its 6 inch barrel offers some serious competitive benefits.

Obviously it’s a more accurate gun at the range by design and the longer barrel generates better ballistics figures too. So suddenly a 45 ACP pistol is a pretty decent hunting handgun for small game and basic critters.

Range Shooting Superstar

But the Kimber Target really comes into its own at the range.

The stainless steel frame, bull barrel and bushing are all machined from the same bar of steel for consistent tolerances throughout the heat cycle. It’s a nice thought, although we’re well into diminishing returns here we still like the obsessive attention to detail.

That’s a perceived quality thing, and it’s clever. The fiber front sight and adjustable rear go with the territory, of course.

Magnum Research Desert Eagle 1911 U Series. A subcompact 1911 that's ideal for concealed carry and a real Colt rival.

11. Desert Eagle 1911 Undercover

  • Price: $1,077.00
  • Barrel: 3″
  • Total Length: 6.85″
  • Weight: 1.6lb
  • Capacity: 6+1 Rounds

It’s another CCW 1911 you can get under your clothes, and it’s a cute looking thing. There’s none of the full-blown histrionics you get with the Magnum Research 50 Cal Desert Eagle, but this one is a gun you could actually live with as a concealed carry.

You get a 6+1 capacity, a 6.85 inch overall length and a fairly hefty 1.6lb. You really have to justify this as an EDC compared to the other, largely striker-fired polymer pistols.

A new Defender-sized 1911 will always get a healthy dose of side-eye, because they’re so difficult to get right. Magnum Research has spent its life harnessing too much power in one handgun, though, and we think it can do this.

This is a relative newcomer to the sub-compact 1911 fold, but it’s a real contender and a great small gun.

But you could argue that it’s so well-appointed that you have to compare these new products to the custom efforts like the Combat Elite and Ruger Officer. Do that, and this becomes a custom 1911 on a budget. And it sounds a more tempting deal…

Springfield Armory Range Officer, a great Commander sized 1911 for less than $1000. Buy guns online at your favorite gunbroker now.

12. Springfield Armory Range Officer Champion

  • Price: $779.99
  • Barrel Length: 4.25″
  • Total Length: 7.6″
  • Weight: 1.88lb
  • Capacity: 7+1 Rounds

Is the Springfield Range Officer Champion really that good? Yes, we think it’s every bit a match for the Colt, it has a little more flair when it comes to the design and it’s the handgun we would choose given the two.

OK a lot of this is down to personal preference, but we tried to take that out the equation and look for reviews from owners. You don’t need to look too hard to find Springfield 1911 reviews along the lines of:

The best handgun I own.

The straightest shooting gun in my collection.

Reliable, beautiful and accurate. It goes with me everywhere.

This is high praise indeed for something that is absolutely not a Glock. You get the traditional 1911 limitations. It’s a 7+1, which can leave you feeling a little outgunned, but then you remember the 45 ACP. You only have to hit them once…

Alloy Frame, Lightweight 1911

This is the compact version that isn’t just cut down. The company opted for a lightweight aluminum frame, rather than steel, to save a precious few more ounces. The final weight of 1.88lb is competitive, if not mindblowing.

Springfield’s custom workshop can certainly produce something lighter for you. But expect to pay more than $1000, much more, when you buy your custom gun.

This has the traditional short military combat trigger and the twin safeties. It’s an ambi safety set-up for left handed shooters too.

Fundamentally, the revolutionary alloy construction turned the humble 1911 into a carry gun for a lot of folks. That’s the main appeal here, as well as the fact you can order a compact 9mm too.

Rock Island Armory M1911-A1 Tactical full size pistol. A $500 1911 that shoots straight, true and honest. It isn't pretty, but it is a good gun.

13. Rock Island Armory M1911 FSHC

  • Price: $518.99
  • Caliber: 45 ACP Auto
  • Barrel: 5″
  • Total Length: 8.75″
  • Weight: 2.56lb
  • Capacity: 10+1 Rounds

The Rock Island Armory M1911-A1 isn’t just a $1000 1911 that will blow your mind if you give it a chance. You can get this gun and change from $500 and it’s offers more capacity than anything here. Except the other RIA…

Now it isn’t the prettiest Government model 1911 on this list. Not even close. But Rock Island semi-auto pistols have a reputation for reliability and durability. This are kind of more important.

This is a Series 70 firing mechanism with that signature skeleton trigger. It’s generally considered to be a match for anything in terms of durability. The last word in elegance and finesse, maybe not so much.

Massive Capacity Magazine Makes This Interesting

But you can go for the bigger magazine and have 14+1 rounds of 45 ACP. That is a USP all on its own. Forget the price.

If you want a cheap 1911, well this Rock Island Armory is the big name in the budget 1911 sector, although the Springfield Mil Spec is fighting for honors in our top $500 1911 pistols post.

Colt Lightweight Commander for sale. One of the best concealed carry 1911 pistols for sale in 2020.

14. Colt Lightweight Commander

  • Price: $1,109.99
  • Barrel: 4.25
  • Total Length: 7.75 inch
  • Weight: 1.84lb
  • Capacity: 9+1

Colt handguns are not cheap, and this compact 1911 is absolutely pushing the $1000 budget to the limit. But it’s worth every cent and these are great guns.

This is the understated, blued version of the classic Colt Commander 45 ACP with a 4.25 inch barrel and stainless frame. You get the Dual Spring Recoil system, Colt branded grips and Novak sights on top of a beautifully constructed semi-auto pistol that should last you a lifetime.

You need to maintain your Colt, and you should need Colt parts and accessories from time to time. Chances are you’ll need to have her reblued, too, or live with the patina of your time together.

If you treat it well, though, this can be a gun for life. There are plenty of Limited Edition guns for sale, too, including the Wiley Clapp and a variety of lightweight custom 1911s. Of course there is the ultimate perversion, the compact 9mm that is actually really good.

Kimber Aegis Elite Ultra Compact 1911 carry pistol. Buy your concealed carry 1911 subcompact today at the world's favorite gunbroker.

15. Kimber Aegis Elite Ultra Compact 1911

  • Price: $1,100.00
  • Barrel: 3″
  • Total Length: 6.8″
  • Weight: 1.56lb
  • Capacity: 7+1 Rounds

If you want a dress gun, then the Kimber Aegis is basically the blinged out version of the small Kimbers we would recommend first. So it’s agreat gun to go with yiour Sunday best, if you want to spend a little more on a designer look.

The Kimber packs a solid 7+1 capacity of mule kick 45 ACP into a 6.8 inch overall length and an aluminum frame. That just about gives you the option of using at as an EDC and some people aren’t too keen on putting striker-fired polymer pistols in their pants.

So if you’re an old-school 1911 guy and want something to slip under your clothes, then the Kimber Aegis Elite Ultra is a total work of art. It might just be the sub-compact 1911 with an alloy frame you have been looking for.

It does weigh in at a relatively svelte 1.56lb, so the company has done well to strip the fat and provide a low-key 1911 for your EDC.It also looks fantastic with one of the new micro red dot sights up top, if the fiber optic front sight isn’t enough.

Rock Island Armory M1911 CS for sale. A cheap 1911 for CCW. Get yours here.

16. Rock Island Armory M1911 CS

  • Price: $512.99
  • Barrel: 3.5″
  • Total Length: 7.3″
  • Weight: 2.47lb
  • Capacity: 7+1 Rounds

Rock Island handguns don’t look all that much compared to other new products, but they do make exceedingly good shooting guns. There is nothing fancy here, apart from the price.

The parkerized finish will get its own patina, but this is a very nice compact 1911 that can fit just about anywhere.

You get 7+1 rounds, owners will tell you that the finish isn’t the best, but this is an honest and true shooter that never lets them down. That’s the most important thing, not the walnut in the grips.

The double stack Rock Island Armory BBR has taken over, but you might prefer the traditional look of this shrunken 1911. We wouldn’t really blame you.

Taurus PT1911 - One of the cheapest 1911 guns for sale online

17. Taurus PT 1911

  • Price: $531.99
  • Barrel: 5″
  • Total Length: 8.75″
  • Weight: 2.44lb
  • Capacity: 8+1 Rounds

This is an affordable 1911 that doesn’t really come with any inherent sacrifice. The blued finish is good enough and you can get an extended clip with 12+1. That is actually pretty cool.

The normal mag is a traditional 1911 8+1 and the Taurus 1911 45 ACP will do everything you want it to. It’s an elegant looking gun, despite the parkerized finish, although it isn’t quite in the aesthetic league of the Ruger, the Springfield or the S&W.

You know you’re saving money with this gun, but if you just want a 1911 and you don’t want to break the bank, the Taurus 1911 45 ACP is a solid choice.

What about the Taurus reliability problems you hear about in the corners of the web? Yeah, you probably will have to strip your gun from time to time and effect repairs. If you want a metronome of a 1911, then the Taurus isn’t the safest bet.

Auto Ordnance M1911A1 pistol for sale. A classic 1911, nothing too fancy

18. Auto Ordnance Thompson M1911A1

  • Price: $711.60
  • Caliber: 45 ACP Auto
  • Barrel: 5 inch
  • Total: 8.5 inch
  • Weight: 2.44lb
  • Capacity: 7+1

Auto Ordnance used to be one of the main players in the firearms industry, but times change. Now the company is a shadow of its former self, but it still has a solid reputation for its basic 1911 .45 Auto handguns and replica Tommy Guns.

This is pretty much a faithful recreation of the classic single stack Series 80 handgun. There are some special editions, but they’re largely engraved versions of this gun. Save your money, get the basic handgun and have fun.

It’s a great 1911 for beginners.

Ivre Johnson Arms Eagle. A great choice for a starter 1911.

19. Iver Johnson Arms Eagle

  • Price: $738.99
  • Barrel: 5″
  • Total Length: 8″
  • Weight: 2.5lb
  • Capacity: 8+1 Rounds

The Iver Johnson Arms Eagle might have just been another off brand pistol a year or so ago.

But now the company is starting to gain a reputation for producing a great gun for the right price. Now you can buy the Iver Johnson Eagle XL long slide, a commander version and this government sized gun.,

There are other options we would go for first. But you won’t be disappointed if you do decide to pull the trigger on an Iver Johnson 1911.

The Ruger SR1911 Officer is a real alternative to the Colt Defender. It's a great concealed carry 1911 45 ACP Auto handgun for sale right now.

20. Ruger SR1911 Officer

  • Price: $869.99
  • Barrel: 3.6″
  • Total Length: 7.25″
  • Weight: 1.94lb
  • Capacity: 7+1 Rounds

This is another high-spec high-price Officer size 1911 from one of the biggest names in the firearms industry.

Ruger has produced a gem of a pocket sized 1911 concealed carry that can easilyt mix it with bigger names, for a great price. Look at the detail work for this price point and you will start to see the value for money.

The brushed steel finish on this single stack 1911 actually makes it sexier. The barrel is beveled for a rapid draw, the deep front facing serrations allow for a quick rack and the trigger and hammer are skeletonized.

A lowered and relieved ejection port is another finishing touch on this Series 70 firearm with a titanium firing pin. Real Novak sights, a beavertail grip safety with a pronounced memory bump, checkered mainspring housing and more, it’s all there.

More importantly, there is a triple recoil spring system. That’s one more than the Colt…

Sig Sauer 1911 Rail gun. A basic combat 1911 that will serve you well for just about $1000.

21. Sig Sauer 1911 Rail

  • Price: $879.99
  • Barrel: 5″
  • Total Length: 8.7″
  • Weight: 2.6lb
  • Capacity: 8+1 Rounds

At 2.6lb and 8.7 inches long, this full-size Sig Sauer 1911 comes with an 8+1 capacity and a supremely accurate five inch barrel.

It’s a simple, clean gun to look at. Sig has the This is the People if you want flash. This is just tack sharp.

This is a functional gun, it isn’t one for sitting round looking at it. You get a great grip safety/thumb safety combination for the security and safety conscious among you. When you do shoot, though, it’s a prodigiously powerful gun that makes the most of the round.

The Sig Fastback 1911 Carry Emperor Scorpion 45 ACP for sale. This is an elegant carry gun with some serious tactical 1911 touches.

22. Sig Sauer 1911 Fastback Emperor Scorpion

  • Price: $1,372.99
  • Barrel: 4.2 inch
  • Overall length: 7.7 inch
  • Weight: 2.43lb

Admit it, this thing looks fantastic. It’s slightly over the $1,000 mark by a crisp sometimes by $50, sometimes by a lot more. But you’ll have to forgive me on that one.

This Commander 45 ACP, though, is plain arousing gunporn. The Emperor Scorpion FDE is absolute gunporn at its finest in every form. The bigger gun is awesome too. But I would take one of these, in this color, in a heartbeat.

It’s a Single Action Only 1911 that pays tribute to the original and points to the future. It looks like a custom gun, especially with that FDE polymerized finish that gives it such a different look.

Mass Market Pistol With Premium Finish

But the checkering on the forged frame and slide, perfectly engineered ambi safety, artistically skeletonized trigger and hammer and the grip safety all combine to create a gun that could easily sell for more than $1000.

Piranha-textured G10 Magwell grips complete the look of the gun, and as you would expect it fires like a dream. This is an 8+1 handgun and with the rounded heel and slightly lighter weight, it is a carry option.

It’s also a fashion gun, a tribute to the best 1911 battle pistols and just a cool 45 handgun.

Devil Dog Arms 1911 45 ACP. One of the new breed of .45 Cal 1911s with aggressive, slimline design and carry gun features.

23. Devil Dog Arms DDA-1911 Tactical

  • Price: $949.99
  • Caliber: 45 Auto ACP
  • Barrel: 5 inch
  • Total: 8.75 inch
  • Weight: 2.6lb

Devil Dog Arms has muscled in on in the action of late. Aggressive designs, slimline guns that can be your EDC and a fierce reputation for engineering excellence have helped turn a boutique manufacturer into something more.

The name is a nickname for the US Marines in full Pit Bull mode and it kind of embodies the brand. This semi-automatic pistol basically has the Colt Combat Unit Rail Gun in its sights, and that is an institution that stars in our 1911s under $2000 list.

It’s a bold move, but DDA could secure a younger audience with keener pricing and a fresher look. The engineering, though, is every bit as good as the benchmark Colt 1911.

CNC Machined Stainless Steel, Not Forged

Every gun is machined from barstock to standards that go beyond what you’d expect to see in this price range. It’s custom gunsmithing for budget 1911 money.

The front strap gets 22LPi checkering, the barrel and bushing are match-grade, double stress relieved to ensure consistency and longevity. That barrel is button-rifled for added precision.

It’s a one-piece magwell and flat mainspring housing, and the whole gun is topped off with hi visibility, low drag night sights. You get a huge beavertail, too, with the safety.

It doesn’t have a full length guide rod, instead it’s two pieces, but it all works well and smooth to be fair. And the single action trigger has a super clean break.

The whole gun is easy to manipulate thanks to the forward serrations, the recoil isn’t so bad thanks in part to the weight and we just like this gun.

Get one, you will too.

Remington R1 Enhanced 1911 for sale. A starter target pistol or a carry gun. It's heavy, but match grade. Buy your gun online now. In stock!

24. Remington 1911 R1 Enhanced

  • Price: $802.99
  • Barrel: 5 inch
  • Total Length: 8.5 inch
  • Weight: 2.5lb
  • Capacity: 8+1 Rounds

Remington promises a match-grade shooter that will serve you just as well in your home.

It’s an 8.5-inch gun, so we’ve given up on CCW here. Instead it’s a spectacular home defense weapon that could be the equalizer when you need it most.

This is a gun I’d want in a bedside biometric safe as a last line of defense. That or an AK-47 under the bed, that works too.

Apart from the shotguns, Remington really doesn’t get much love on these pages. We know that, and we have our reasons. Largely we just don’t think the guns are good enough across the board, but when they are, they really are.

This is a competition spec handgun that is reasonably priced. It wouldn’t quite tempt me away from the Colt or the Sig, but the online gun reviews so far are pretty positive.

The Remington R1 Enhanced is a solid gun that can easily mix it with more expensive rivals on the range. That makes it the best Remington handgun we have seen in a while.

EAA Tanfoglio Witness Commander 1911 Polymer. A plastic 1911, finally. Buy your gun here.

25. Tanfoglio Witness Polymer 1911 Match Pro

  • Price: $718
  • Barrel Length: 5″
  • Total Length: 8.58″
  • Weight: 2lb
  • Capacity: 8+1 Rounds

A plastic 1911 pistol chambered in 45 ACP? Yes, really, finally it’s here and to be honest, the Tanfoglio Witness 1911 Polymer should probably have got here sooner.

We are used to polymer striker-fired pistols, but a polymer frame 1911? Why not? It should work just as well…

Now there are more competent guns lower on the list. But it’s our job to show you new and interesting things, too. And a 5″, Government model 1911 that weighs in at 2lb is pretty damned cool.

That might be enough to tempt some people to carry a 1911 as an EDC. Or to have one as a back-up, or just to shoot it for fun.

All the parts are standard full-size 1911, so you can upgrade and turn this plastic 1911 into the best tactical pistol. As the start of a DIY 1911 build, we kind of like the concept too.

A polymer 1911 is fun, different and there’s no reason why it shouldn’t work. Get one, and see what you think.

Colt Delta Elite 10mm. An alternative to 45 ACP and a gun you might want s an insurance policy.

27. Colt Delta Elite

  • Price: $1,538.99
  • Caliber: 10mm
  • Barrel Length: 5″
  • Total Length: 8.58″
  • Weight: 2lb
  • Capacity: 8+1 Rounds

It is the wrong caliber and it is too much money, and yet still we find that you want to hear about the Colt Delta Elite.

10mm vs 45 ACP is a much more interesting debate than 9mm vs 45 ACP. Especially when this is the gun the FBI commissioned as a step up from the 9mm service weapons that failed so dismally in Dade, Florida.

Also, 10mm is a legit insurance policy if you’re worried about 45 ACP running dry. And that is a legitimate thing. If that’s a thought for you, the Colt Delta is a fantastic 10mm pistol, and you don’t need to be Special Operations to have one.

The beavertail grip safety is there, thumb safety, double diamond G10 grips, flared ejection port, all that stuff. You can get red dot sights on there and go hunting, or use it for defensive duties with the low drag rear sight and fixed front sights.

The 10mm Colt is one of the best sellers for a reason and it’s a great choice for a one handgun home.

Do You Want a Cheaper 1911?

We did a separate post with a lower bar, because $500 handguns tend to attract a different crowd. Some of you would view a $500 1911 with a healthy dose of side eye.

Some guns made both lists because they’re good and cheap. They are rare, exceptional firearms, including the RIA guns. But there are others like the American Tactical Imports ATI Xtreme Firepower 1911 and EAA Girsan MC1911, that we decided to leave out.

American Tactical Imports has done amazing things of late, and the polymer AR-15 was one of our favorite guns of 2022 and ATI does a killer 22 Pistol. It really does have a great forged frame and slide.

The American Tactical Innovations simply isn’t significantly better than the guns here I would trust my life with.

Other cheap 1911s from the likes of Girsan are making a solid impact on the budget sector as well. But we couldn’t have them all here. It just didn’t seem right.

So if you want a cheaper 1911 at about the $500 price point, then go here.

Do you want to blow the budget?

1911s can get really expensive. In fact there are levels, layers of 1911 ownership. See you might think a Dan Wesson Bruin is insane money right now, but get the bug and you will want more.

The Colt Gold Cup Trophy and Gold Cup National Match are closing in on $2,000 right now. That’s just the way it is and we’re struggling to find a Colt Gold Cup for less than $1,500. That means it would be kind of insulting to include it here and we had to let it go.

So if you came here looking for the Colt Cold Cup Trophy or Colt Gold Cup National Match, then you’re going to have to take a look here. We can do Mil Spec for this money, we can’t do these…

Dan Wesson, Wilson Combat CQB and More

Dan Wesson will be the gateway that leads to the Kimber, Colt and Springfield Armory custom workshop. Then Les Baer and Wilson Combat CQB are waiting for you at the height of your madness.

Then you’ll meet up with Nighthawk Custom. Even the trigger guard is designer there…

Just a few of those guns feature in our best 1911 pistols under $2000 feature here. The Les Baer is right up the top if you want a spoiler alert.

We do really like the Dan Wesson V-Bob Bobtail carry guns, too. Also the Dan Wesson Specialist and Dan Wesson Valor are pretty great guns as well.

Custom Guns Get Really Expensive, Especially 1911 45 Handguns

Some of them are more expensive than that. Wilson Combat we’re looking at you. For them you’ll have to go to our custom piece, where we just don’t ask the price anymore and just talk vaguely about fit and finish.

The factory custom shop guns get crazy and you’ll see guns from Colt, Kimber and Dan Wesson that comfortably broach the $3,000 mark. With the Wilson Combat 1911 45s, more or less all of them do and every gun is from the custom shop with a match barrel. They don’t know any other way.

Just for fun, have a look here:

Nighthawk Custom charges thousands for each piece, too. One gunsmith produces your entire firearm. If that matters enough to drop more than 4K on a pistol, get your Nighthawk Custom here.

Wilson Combat EDC X9 - An amazing handgun for sale

OK Let’s Look at Wilson Combat

If you want to spend just a butt ton of money and know that you have a world beating 1911 on your hands, then Wilson Combat is a pretty safe bet. Just look at the hand fitted, well, everything…

You can spend upwards of $4,000 on a Wilson Combat pistol. The Wilson Combat CQB does feel amazing in your hand. But then so do a lot of the pistols on this list with a forged frame and slide, if you have $3,000 in your other hand at the same time.

Still, if you want to go nuts and buy a Wilson Combat, check these places and buy your Wilson Combat pistol online now.

And a Tiny Bit at Les Baer

Les Baer is a designer label that seems to have the universal respect of the industry. basically nobody shit talks Les Baer. Except for those that can’t afford them.

Which is actually a lot of people. Because Les Baer guns are cray-zy expensive. But ya know, the fit and finish…

But the Les Baer BOSS .45 and Les Baer 1911 Custom Carry are the stuff of legend and it tends to be oine of these, or an STI, or Wilson Combat, not all of them.

Vickers Tactical Master Class?

The Vickers Tactical Master Class is a custom Springfield Armory 1911 developed with legendary special forces combat veteran Larry Vickers. The Vickers is an elite pistol that comes with a Wilson Combat safety, Vickers sights and woven front checkering.

It’s pretty minor stuff, honestly, and we’re not sure Larry Vickers has helped all that much here. But if you want to spend more on a Springfield Armory then here you go. We guess the fit and finish is better, too, but honestly we’re not sure.

John Wick 3, is this the gun? STI 2011 John Wick Combat Master Package For Sale

What About the John Wick Gun?

That’s before you get to the insane offerings from STI for competition use, which are then sometimes tuned by Taran Tactical Innovations for John Wick.

Those optic ready 9mm double stack 1911s can set you back $4,000. And suddenly a $1,200 Dan Wesson Valor seems a pretty sweet deal. But it’s an engineering master class at this price point, so there’s that…

And that’s marketing folks…

Where to Buy 1911 45 Ammo, Parts & Accessories

The one thing you know is that a mil spec 1911 requires proper maintenance. This isn’t a Glock and that forged frame and slide need work and gun oil. If you want an easier semi-auto pistol, then go striker-fired. If you want a 1911, get familiar with your toolkit and a good gun cleaning supplies.

Do if you’re looking for a cleaning kit, or spare parts and custom 1911 upgrades, or a double stack 1911, then we have some useful people for you to meet.
