CZ isn’t just another gun company. Since they swallowed Colt and Dan Wesson whole, they’ve become a global powerhouse. But let’s be real: people don’t buy a CZ-75 because of a corporate merger. They buy them because the slide-in-frame design makes them shoot flatter than almost anything else on the shelf.

If you’re looking for a defensive tool, a competition ringer, or just a range toy that makes you look better than you actually are, CZ has a horse in the race. But the catalog is getting crowded. With the Plus series and the new Compact race guns, picking the right one is harder than it used to be.

We’ve spent the time putting lead downrange to figure out which ones actually earn a spot in your safe. Here are the 10 best CZ pistols you can buy right now.

CZ Shadow 2 Compact, the new king of concealed carry and one of the best CZ pistols on the market

1. CZ Shadow 2 Compact

  • Caliber: 9mm
  • Capacity: 15+1
  • Barrel Length: 4 inches
  • Best For: Premium CCW/Executive Protection

The New King of Carry

Pros

  • Class-leading DA/SA trigger with exceptionally short reset
  • Recoil mitigation from the low-bore axis and steel frame
  • Exceptional mechanical accuracy often beats full-size service pistols

Cons

  • Considerably heavier than polymer competitors for daily concealed carry
  • Lacks an internal firing pin block, a concern for safety-conscious carriers
  • You can buy two Glocks and mags for the same price. It’s hella expensive.

For years, the gun community begged for this. We wanted the legendary performance of the full-sized Shadow 2 in a package that wouldn’t give us a hernia if we carried it IWB. CZ finally listened, and the Shadow 2 Compact is arguably the best handgun they’ve ever produced for the serious enthusiast.

It’s an aluminum-framed, optics-ready masterpiece. You get the same world-class DA/SA trigger and the same serrated identity as the big brother, but in a footprint similar to a Glock 19.

Why it’s on the list: The weight is the sweet spot. It’s heavy enough to soak up recoil like a sponge, but the aluminum frame keeps it at about 28 ounces. That’s the magic number for a carry gun that you actually enjoy shooting at the range.

Is it expensive? Yeah. Is the trigger a little light for a novice’s carry gun? Probably. But if you know how to handle a firearm, this is the peak of the mountain. It’s fast, flat, and looks like a piece of industrial art.

The Immortal Wonder Nine

Pros

  • Internal slide rail gives a low bore axis for superior recoil control
  • Legendary ergonomics with a grip that fits a vast range of hand sizes
  • Condition One capability allows for cocked and locked 1911-style carry

Cons

  • Factory trigger often has a noticeable break-in period or slight gritty feel
  • Hefty all-steel construction makes it less ideal for modern concealed carry
  • Slide manipulation difficult due to the minimal surface area of the internal rails

Launched in 1975, the CZ 75 is a legend. I really couldn’t even do this list without the grand daddy.

It is the second most imitated firearm in recent history, after the much older 1911, and it is still the go to service pistol in the Czech Republic and plenty of other nations.

A staggered mag, rather than a true double stack, meant this was one of the first Wonder Nines, high capacity 9mm pistols that changed the world of close combat. It introduced the world to the “slide-in-frame” design, which lowers the bore axis and keeps the muzzle from flipping like a pancake.

The full size CZ 75 B semi auto 9mm pistol was a pioneer, a trailblazer that carved a path for today’s high capacity 9mm handguns.

Now this is a short recoil operated, locked breech pistol with a Browning linkless cam locking system that was born in the legendary Browning Hi-Power. The B model comes with a firing pin block safety mechanism, rather than a decocker. Make sure you know which version you want when you buy yours.

It was designed to be carried cocked and locked, with a simple thumb safety sending you live and straight to the more accurate single action.

The Reality Check: It’s an old design. It doesn’t have a rail for a light, unless you get the SP-01, and the sights are small by modern standards. But the ergonomics are still the gold standard. When you point this gun, it just feels like an extension of your arm. If you want one gun that will last three generations and never fail to go bang, this is it.

CZ P-10 Compact. A real Glock rival with a tuned feel off the production line. It's a faster, better, tougher Glock

3. CZ P-10 Compact

  • Caliber: 9mm Luger
  • Barrel: 4 inches
  • Weight: 1.7lb
  • Capacity: 15+1

The Glock Killer

Pros

  • Best-in-class striker trigger with a clean break and 4mm reset
  • Deeply undercut trigger guard and high beaver tail
  • Aggressive grip texturing provides a rock-solid purchase

Cons

  • Grip stippling is so sharp it can be abrasive against skin
  • Slide release is extremely stiff and low-profile makes it awkward
  • Proprietary sight dovetails limit the use of aftermarket CZ 75 sights

I love Glock. I really do. But the P-10 C makes the G19 feel like a bar of soap. CZ entered the striker-fired market late, but they did it right. The P-10 C has a trigger that puts almost every other factory striker gun to shame. It has a crisp break and a reset that you can actually feel and hear.

The grip texture is aggressive—some say too aggressive—but it stays glued to your palm even if your hands are sweaty or bloody. A CZ 75 style grip angle is a big difference, and a lot of people prefer this set-up to the best Glocks in 2026.

Czech military and Law Enforcement Officers carry these striker fired handguns, if they don’t like the traditional CZ 75 that is still in service.

What’s new for 2026? The Optics Ready (OR) versions are now the standard. Don’t buy the old version. The OR model allows you to mount a red dot low on the slide, and the updated internal safeties make it one of the most drop-safe guns on the market. It’s affordable, reliable, and better out of the box than its Austrian rivals.

CZ Shadow 2, buy yours today

3. CZ Shadow 2

  • Caliber: 9mm Luger
  • Barrel: 4.89 inches
  • Weight: 2.9lb
  • Capacity: 17+1
  • Best for: Competition/Range Dominance

Competition Gun Gold Standard

Pros

  • 46.5oz steel frame almost eliminates muzzle flip
  • Competition DA/SA trigger with super short reset
  • Nitride finish and high-end machining super durable

Cons

  • Enormous footprint and nearly 3lb weight. It’s no CCW
  • Lacks a firing pin block which is a problem for defensive carry
  • Small slide profile is tricky for rapid emergency manipulations

If you walk into a USPSA or IPSC match today, you’re going to see a sea of Shadow 2s. This gun was built specifically to win trophies. At nearly 3 pounds, it is a heavy beast, but that weight means the recoil of a 9mm round is virtually non-existent.

The trigger in single-action is terrifyingly good. You just think about shooting, and the round is gone. Why you need one: Even if you aren’t a competitive shooter, everyone should own one “cheater gun.” This is it. It makes shooting tight groups effortless. The blue grips are iconic, but the ergonomics are the real star. The deep undercut on the trigger guard lets you get your hand so high on the frame that the recoil impulse goes straight back into your arm instead of flipping the muzzle up.

Read the gun reviews and basically all of them love it.

Those Duralumin grips are an aluminum alloy that are pure race gun touches, and yet work perfectly and look pretty fine too. An adjustable magazine release helps you perfect your reload times and that’s a chunky manual safety that you can just feel without moving your eye from the target.

CZ 75 P-01 Omega Convertible. An all metal concealed carry pistol that can switch between a manual safety and a decocker system.

4. CZ P-01 Omega 9mm

  • Caliber: 9mm Luger
  • Barrel length: 3.75 inches
  • Weight: 1.8lb
  • Capacity: 15+1
  • Best For: Duty Carry/Rugged CCW

Duty Gun with a Hammer

Pros

  • Omega trigger system allows conversion between decocker and safety
  • Flatter trigger shoe profile provides a more consistent pull
  • Aluminum alloy frame balances duty-grade durability with a carry-friendly weight

Cons

  • Omega internal geometry has a lower performance ceiling for custom tuning
  • Standard iron sights are often basic three-dot luminaries rather than tritium night sights
  • Minimal slide makes emergency racking difficult, especially with the stiff factory recoil spring

The P-01 is a compact, aluminum-framed version of the 75 series with a full-length dust cover and a rail. It’s one of the few pistols in the world with a NATO stock number. To get that, it had to survive a testing protocol that would make most modern guns melt.

We’re talking thousands of rounds without cleaning, extreme temperature shifts, and enough drop tests to break a sidewalk. It passed them all.

The DA/SA Advantage: A lot of guys are moving back to hammer-fired guns for carry because you can put your thumb on the hammer while holstering. It’s an extra layer of safety. The P-01 gives you that peace of mind in a package that is light enough for all-day carry but tough enough for a war zone.

The P-01 Omega 9mm also gets that new Omega Convertible trigger set, so it’s a damned good gun. It’s overlooked when it comes to the best concealed carry guns and that’s a shame, because this all-metal compact handgun has a lot to offer.

CZ TS 2 on sale now. Get the replacement for the CZ Tactical Sport Orange her

5. CZ TS2

  • Caliber: 9mm / .40 S&W
  • Capacity: 20+1
  • Weight: 3lb
  • Best For: Target Shooting / Limited Class Competition

Boutique Race Gun for Mid Range Money

Pros

  • Pure single-action trigger with a factory weight often under 2 lbs
  • Extended 5.28-inch barrel and slide provides a massive sight radius for long-range accuracy
  • Oversized magwell and larger frame dimensions allow for lightning-fast reloads

Cons

  • Proprietary frame and magazines are not compatible with standard CZ 75/Shadow 2 parts
  • Single-action-only design and lack of firing pin block limit its use to competition and range only
  • Tight tolerances and race-gun tuning make it more sensitive to fouling and dirt than duty models

The CZ TS 2 replaced the old Tactical Sport Orange, and it’s a dedicated racing machine. Unlike the Shadow 2, which is DA/SA, the TS 2 is Single Action Only (SAO). The trigger is so light you shouldn’t even put your finger near it until you’re ready to vaporize a target.

It’s built on a frame that is slightly different from the 75 series, designed for maximum grip surface and weight.

Is it practical? No. Don’t carry this gun. It’s a range thoroughbred. If you want to see how fast you can actually shoot a double-tap, this is the gun that will help you find your limit. The fit and finish are custom-shop quality for a production price.

Compared to a 2011 the CZ is a thoroughbred, with match grade everything and that longer barrel. In many ways it’s a better gun.

It’s designed for ISPC competition, or just over-engineered for the range. Either way, it’s a fully custom race gun for off the peg money.

CZ P-07. A compact carry gun with a hammer and decocker, as well as a long double action/single action operation. It's different.

6. CZ P-07

  • Caliber: 9mm Luger
  • Barrel: 3.75 inches
  • Weight: 1.7lb
  • Capacity: 10+1

The Polymer Hammer Gun

ugs_pros_cons] +Omega trigger system swaps between decocker or manual safety
+Exceptional recoil management due to low bore axis
+Polished feed ramp and cold hammer-forged barrel ensure reliability
-Significant break-in period required to smooth out the initial grit
-Minimal slide surface area makes it difficult to rack
-Factory grip texturing is slick and lacks the “bite” of the P-10 series

A compact carry handgun with a sub 4 inch barrel, a hammer and decocking lever set up and a double action/single action trigger. This ticks a lot of boxes for some people out there.

Released in 2009 this 9mm was the first with the Omega trigger set-up, which simplified the CZ 75 set up considerably.

Interlocking parts meant that the days of gunsmithing tools and knowledge were long gone and anybody could service their CZ at home and switch between a decocker and manual safety without a gunsmith. That was a big step for these polymer framed pistols.

It’s a hugely competent Glock alternative, if you’re looking for one…

People often overlook it for the P-10 series, but the P-07 has a cult following. It’s smooth, reliable, and the polymer frame has just enough “give” to make it comfortable for all-day carry.

The Build: It’s built like a tank. The slide is nitrided for extreme wear resistance, and the hammer-fired action is incredibly reliable. It’s the perfect choice for the guy who wants a modern polymer gun but hates striker-fired triggers.

CZ Scorpion Evo 3

7. CZ Scorpion Evo 3 S1 9mm

  • Caliber: 9mm Luger
  • Barrel: 7.75 inches
  • Weight: 5lb
  • Capacity: 20+1

Legendary AR9 and Military SMG

Pros

  • Massive aftermarket support for easy customization
  • Simple blowback action ensures rock-solid reliability
  • Lightweight polymer frame improves overall handling

Cons

  • Heavy factory trigger pull needs upgrading
  • Ambidextrous safety selector digs into hand
  • Plastic iron sights feel somewhat cheap

The CZ Scorpion Evo 3 S1 9mm has become a hit with special forces, military and Law enforcement and the general public all round the world.

It’s a simple semi-auto pistol, encased in polymer to keep out the elements and dust. There’s a clear manual safety, charging handle, mag release and not a huge amount else. Also, it’s seriously compact and while people use a brace, you don’t necessarily need one.

Now the S3 is here, but this is still the gold standard, the S1 is the legend, the icon and one you really want.

The Scorpion is a blowback operated semi auto pistol chambered in 9mm and that is useful thing to have, especially with these compact pistol dimensions. It is that, together with the excellent record for reliability, that turned the full auto sub machine gun into a military favorite.

Also the threaded barrel means you can take off the faux suppressor and the Scorpion is really suppressor ready under there.

For storming and clearing buildings, this is the best cut price alternative to the HK SP5 and MP5.

The full length Picatinny rail up top, second rail underneath for mounting lights and lasers and molded side rails mean you can dress it up with all the tacti-cool gear in your arsenal.

From red dot sights to weapon lights and lasers, you can literally have it all on there at the same time.

And even cultured and respectable people do…

Don’t forget the Evo 3 S3+

The shorter barrel is a clear response to the likes of the Sig Sauer Copperhead, Angstadt Arms and other smaller 9mm Pistol Caliber Carbines.

It’s a concealed carry 9mm AR pistol that fits in a backpack and yet with a low profile red dot it is an absolute weapon of war when called upon. Again its suppressor ready under that faux suppressor, confusingly…

Also look out or the Evo 3 S1 9mm suppressor ready semi auto rifles. These are great carbine rifles that turn 9mm Luger into an absolute weapon you can use for home defense, small game hunting or pest control.

CZ P-09. A fantastic polymer handgun with a hammer that makes a Glock look, well, ordinary. Get yours here.

8. CZ P-09

  • Caliber: 9mm Luger
  • Barrel: 4.54 inches
  • Weight: 3lb
  • Capacity: 19+1

Full Size Duty Pistol

Pros

  • Massive nineteen round standard magazine capacity
  • Long sight radius improves distance accuracy
  • Soft shooting due to large frame

Cons

  • Very large footprint limits concealment options
  • Stock double action pull feels heavy
  • Factory magazines are consistently expensive

A modern polymer service pistol with a hammer fired action is a rare find these days. So it is always going to find a market.

This is the full size polymer frame with the enhanced Omega DA/SA trigger and Picatinny rail for mounting lights underneath.

You can easily switch between a frame mounted manual safety and the pre-installed decocking lever that is a CZ hallmark.

Aside from that the major calling card here are that high, think grip that is quite unlike any Glock grip angle you’ve ever seen, but is reminiscent of the 75.

The grip is a surprising amount of the whole polymer frame firearm, and this more than the hammer probably defines this semi-automatic pistol. Look for the best deals and you’ve got a real find here.

Of course the CZ Czechmate Parrot is aimed at elite competitive shooting. But if you want the ultimate 9mm pistol at home, and you’re willing to sped this kind of money, then your Parrot could be your new lifelong friend.

The dramatic red dot mount on the frame, rather than the slide, for that last degree of fixed rigidity, is the full size Parrot’s calling card. Well that and the 3-port compensator. We probably shouldn’t forget that.

But, if you want to shoot it as a normal pistol, take the range gear off and you’re left with this Czeska Zbrojovka masterpiece.

The CZ Czechmate Parrot is a CZ 75 based competition shooter and the absolute best of the best in terms of engineering.

You still get a compensator, a super flat match-grade trigger system, frame mounted manual safety and a simple target shooting hammer, together with almost a side charging handle with that oversized purple bolt attached. But this all works beautifully and intuitively as a full size defensive gun too.

There is plenty of middle ground on offer from CZ and the Shadow and Tac 2 Orange are probably more sensible choices if you’re not a dedicated competitor in top grade shooting sports. An optics ready slide, rather than these shenanigans, is honestly more practical for your home defense firearms too.

But if you just want the best of the best, well then you need a Parrot in your life. And we do love those aluminum grips on this high price, high spec steel frame handgun…

The Experience: Shooting a Parrot is like driving a Formula 1 car. It doesn’t move. The compensator keeps the muzzle perfectly flat while you dump a 26-round magazine into a target in seconds. Is it a practical gun for 99% of people? Absolutely not. Is it the pinnacle of CZ engineering? Yes.

The CZ Rami is a cult hero in the firearms industry.

It’s officially discontinued and has been for years, which is why this alloy frame carry gun is super hard to find. But if you spot this semi-automatic pistol, even used, buy it and get an instant cult collector’s item.

Released in 2004 this semi-auto 9mm is one of the pioneers of the micro compact 9mm pistol class and has consistently been a thorn in the side of the best striker fired pistols thanks to its endless personality.

You might not rely on the CZ 2075 Rami as your last line of defense. It does suffer the occasional jam. But that doesn’t matter. You’ll have so much fun with this all-metal micro-compact hammer fired pistol at the range that you’ll soon spend disproportionate amounts of time together.

It always goes that way…

A Gun With a Soul

Technically it’s just a cut down version of the full size CZ 75, but it’s so much more than that. This is one of those that will put a smile on our face every time you fire it. And they are pretty rare honestly.

The CZ Rami is also surprisingly ergonomic and easy to shoot, with that high beavertail and undercut trigger guard giving you a nice grip high up the frame.

There’s an extended mag with 14 rounds if you need a chunkier grip and if your State laws allow and a manual safety on the frame. Otherwise you get 10 rounds with a flush fitting mag.

If you own a Rami, you know how good this semi-auto 9mm pistol really is. If you don’t own one, and can find one, buy a gun online immediately.

What is the CZ Custom Shop

The Ghost Products CZ Custom Shop is a separate entity, an authorized dealer owned by master gunsmith Angus Hobdell in Mesa, Arizona. There he takes CZ handguns to the next level, with the full backing of CZ USA.

So if you see a CZ Custom shop handguns, rifles and shotguns for sale online, buy with confidence.

Of course you can always go the whole hog and get a Dan Wesson DWX, a 1911 based on the CZ 75.

Manual Safety vs Decocker

You can now switch between a manual safety and a decocker on your CZ handgun thanks to the CZ Omega trigger system. A decocker is kind of a rare find these days. Most folks just accepted the manual safety as the best solution, but CZ USA has stuck with them.

Simply put the decocker drops the hammer safely without firing the gun. A manual safety stops the hammer doing anything useful at all and locks the gun in safe mode.

I mean we have to be honest we think the manual safety is a better solution, or the trigger safety you see on the polymer pistols. But we still kinda like the old decocker system, if only in theory.

But others straight up hate any kind of manual safety on a defensive handgun. So we’re all different, is the point.

Why CZ is Dominating the Market Right Now

Look, the “EEAT” — Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness of firearm reviews usually comes down to one thing: does the gun work when it’s dirty?

CZ guns are famous for their reliability, but their real “secret sauce” is the Slide-in-Frame geometry. On most handguns such as Glock, Sig, and Beretta, the slide rails are on the outside of the frame. On a CZ, the slide sits inside the frame rails.

This does two things:

  1. It creates a much tighter fit, which improves inherent accuracy.
  2. It allows the bore axis at the center of the barrel to sit much lower in your hand.

When the barrel is lower, the “leverage” the gun has against your wrist is reduced. That’s why a CZ feels like it “returns to zero” faster than a Glock. It’s physics, not magic.

What About the Colt Merger?

A lot of people were worried when CZ bought Colt. They thought quality would dip. The opposite happened. CZ brought their modern manufacturing precision to Colt’s legacy, and the profits from Colt have allowed CZ to double down on R&D. The release of the Shadow 2 Compact is proof that they are still hungry and listening to the market.

Final Thoughts

CZ isn’t the budge brand anymore. They are a premium manufacturer that happens to offer some very affordable polymer guns. Whether you choose the tactical reliability of the P-01, the striker-fired excellence of the P-10 C, or the pure performance of the Shadow 2, you’re getting a firearm designed by people who actually understand the mechanics of shooting.
